Mand'alor's Mask

Excerpt · Description

Mandalore's Mask was a ceremonial war mask worn by the Mand'alor, the traditional leader of the Mandalorian warrior clans. The helmet was fashioned out of the bone of some great beast. It was a ruddy golden color and it prominently featured the iconic Mandalorian T-shaped visor. For decoration, it was embossed with a series of concentric lines and, above the visor, it was adorned with two emblems of the Mandalorian Crusaders. It is assumed to be lost to time.

Description

Considered to be one of, if not the, most significant artifacts of the Mandalorian people. It was initially fashioned out of the bone of some unusual great beast by Mandalore the First, though the exact origin has been lost to the ages. Ever since its creation, it has been down through the ages to those Mandalorians who proved themselves worthy of the title of Mand'alor, leader of the Mandalorian clans.

As the crusades for more territory went on, the mask saw plenty of battle, for its wearer would be expected to lead the Mandalorian clans in battle from the front. Over the centuries, it was known to be one of the most fearsome, awe-inspiring symbols of Mandalore, since its wearer would need to be one of sound mind and dominant physical ability in order to rally the teeming multitudes of the various clans and houses of Mandalore.

It has not been worn for numerous millennia, however. Many have sought it, but few have returned from the pilgrimage required, so dangerous is the journey. Rumors abound of its existence in a cave system high up on one of the tallest peaks of the mountains on Mandalore, though this is unfounded. There are just as many rumors about its alleged existence in other sacred places, but nobody has yet recovered it. To do so would not only bring back an important item of Mandalorian heritage, but also give the bearer an extreme amount of prestige among the Mandalorian clans should they seek the title of Mand'alor.
