Verneck sat as the remaining senators in the room until the one that brought up the proposal began the vote posthaste. Listening to his coreworld comrade vote against the Republic, he stood up and casted his vote.

“As I’ve said previously and as with my comrade. I vote Nay... there are too many factors regarding systems and planets still loyal to a faction, such as mine having strong fidelity to the Sith, so it would be foolish to rip that from them...”

Making Our Own Destiny
Senator Lely looked around in disbelief as people talked about having a vote now. "A vote?" she asked rather silently, mostly for herself to hear as her eyes met those of the other present Senators. Letting her voice rise slightly as she spoke - just enough for those near her to hear - Senator Lely looked to the others and spoke in a mumble. "We aren't even in the Senate. Wouldn't this risk tarnishing our democratic legacy, if we vote here without a prior hearing? I think a vote in the Senate might be more appropriate." The seasoned lawyer paused for a few moments, considering what would be reasonable in this instance. A vote now would be reasonable. With a sigh, she raised her arm to point at the two Senators with Sith sympathies. She was concerned about the disunity if they were remorselessly overruled in the matter. She was about to speak before her arm dropped with a heavy sigh. Raising her head and making sure that she could now be heard by all the others, she let out an "Aye"

Regardless of whether or not they could represent the entirety of the United Protectorate, he could make his voice known for now. There was something that was unequivocally true: something had to change. He wasn't interested in remaining part of an Empire that was already trying to disband itself while simultaneous rekindling a war against a superior force. Not a great combination.

I vote "aye" now as I will in the face of the rest of the Senate, Regis said. The tone of the meeting was clearly one that desired action. While this group may not represent the rest of the Senate, if the level of reception to the idea had similar proportions in the rest of the Senate, then it was likely the motion would still pass. Even if the rest of the Senate was 45% Sith worlds, there were many worlds like his own that were part of the Empire, but didn't want to be. It didn't take a genius to see the Empire had fallen on its face recently.

Senator Waszylla had the makings of an epic speech to accompany his vote. It would have moved even the most craven men to tears and perhaps make the young ladies swoon with a sudden case of the vapors. He would earn the respect of his peers and would inspire an entire generation of scholars and politicians. They'd rename the Senate Chamber on Coruscant to the Waszylladome in his honor. Perhaps because he was envisioning all these things that he didn't look where he was going and tripped over a piece of carpet that was sticking up. He went down quick and hard, tumbling and rolling to hit the podium and make his microphone ring out in a sudden burst of feedback. Taking a moment to collect himself and knowing that no manner of speech would help him save face from what he'd just done, he just cleared his throat and gave a "Aye." before sitting back down to nurse the bruise on his forehead. Damn, and he would have been so cool, too. Whoever had done the upholstery was going to pay.

And so it's voting time. The Imperial muppets being predictable have cast their predictable votes. He heard some votes for ayes as well. And a call for this to be settled in the Senate. Really, the United Protectorate has moved at a glacial pace since it's inception and accomplished nothing. So he isn't to worried about doing things one-hundred percent by the book. While now, they are live on the Holonet, there's lots of senators here, no Sith or Mandalorians; this is a chance to make a big difference; not just for Alton's native Chandrila, but for the galaxy as well. Not something to be wasted. Strike while the iron is hot as they say.

Just as Alton was about to cast his vote, suddenly the older senator of Obroa-Skai tumbled and hit the podium and made a feedback with the microphone. Alton's expression dropped to concern wondering if he was okay. That seems quite embarrassing too...

Anyways, standing up after he casted his, Alton would cast his own vote. "Aye" and that's all that's needed to said. The people of Chandrila want nothing to do with the Sith anymore, no matter what they do or what they decide to call themselves. The people of Chandrila want a free democracy and real change.

Sitting down, he would look around and see others who would cast their vote.

He also wondered if Valiance is okay.

Mida suddenly regretted the amenities of the senate building and not bringing along his aides. There was a lot to discuss and yet no time to recess and determine a cautious course of action after careful deliberation with those he depended on. While the ideal of an independent Republic certainly appealed to him as it was the only way to ensure an intergalactic stability that allowed for equal rights and unbiased policing. He was anxious to rush into it without a pre-planned set of actions. Right now a newly formed Republic had no way of defending itself nor had it deliberated on how an independent defense force was to be funded.

Involving either the Sith or the Jedi only served to make a fledgling Republic a target to the other and the Mandalorians for conquest. Involving all three kept the current status quo, which served only to stagnate protectorate worlds.

As the senator of Commenor, already an independent world, he was therefore conflicted. Yet, like with Senator Hask's motion for more cooperation, he decided ultimately to vote in good faith and a hope for a brighter future; "Commenor votes Aye."

May his people forgive him if it ends up bringing a war to their planet.

There wasn't much more to say. The debate was, for now, over, and Mara had nothing else to ponder.

"Aye," she said simply.

She was beaming by the time everyone had spoken up, and she saw that the majority were in favor of a Republic. It was obvious that the other Senators had seen a need for action. She never expected herself to be the one to bring this conversation about, but she was happy nonetheless to see progress. She smiled at the others in the room, even at the ones that voted against it.

“I think the majority have spoken,” She called out to them, “We are now henceforth recognized as the Republic,” She allowed a moment of pause for several members that were applauding this decision. By now, there were whispers of the dissolution of the Empire, though she wouldn’t bring that up in the forum.

Keira turned her attention back to the others, “It will take time to come up with a formal hierarchy and structure. For that, I must first ask that we conclude today’s vote with electing a Chancellor. At minimum we must have one person to help drive the structure of the Republic and oversee the combined military forces we have."

She looked at them all, “Please put forward the name of the Senator you believe should take that role and we shall all vote.”

Verneck was disgruntled for a moment when the votes were against his ideas. Almost everyone except for his all Gideon votes against him. Despite this, he’d be fine with being a senator for a republic; more power to him rather than it being vented to an empire he could not rise higher in. He thought the UP system was better, but he accepted this.

“Hmm.. Although I didn’t agree with the formation of the Republic at first, I believe that it could work out if we select the best senator for the job... I thought the republic would be too drastic of a change and the current system would suffice, especially for my planet. However, after listening to your arguments and contemplating them further, I won’t be outraged by this new republic. Therefore, I nominate @Keira Zale to be Supreme Chancellor. Her contextual leadership has already been displayed though this gathering..” he stated. He both displayed a facade and the truth. He didn’t want to lose his position for one vote, but now he accepted the reforms.

Yes, it is done, the United Protectorate is now the Republic, Alton joined his hands in the appulse when it was announced. This is a historic moment and it's all captured live on the Holonet. Only the Imperial-aligned senators were against the change, everyone else voted eye. He would wonder what their reactions would be.

But onto the task at hand, now that it's the Republic now, Senator Zale wasted no time getting to what needs to be done after. There needs to be a Chancellor. Well, Alton doesn't want to be it, but he knows someone who can drive the tasks described. Standing up, Alton would nominate a potential Chancellor. "I nominate you Senator Zale, for Chancellor. "

His nomination shouldn't need any accompanying reason behind it. She had the initiative to gather everyone here, to get everyone to vote on a Republic .etc He doesn't know anyone else off the top of his head who can for sure make a good Chancellor and get the fledging Republic where it needs to be. With his words, he'd look around and see if there are others who have nominations and such.

And with that final vote, history was made. As the pain subsided from his head, Valiance smiled as he listened to their host continue on. The request was a simple, important, and expected one: They needed a leader, someone willing to wrangle in all the difficult personalities and guide their little band of misfit planets. Of course, the first thought he had was why not him? He was a learned scholar, charismatic enough to get elected, cared for his people and could probably be convinced to do so for other planets. Maybe. Of course, it was that thought in immediate retrospect that made him realize that he WASN'T qualified. Looking at his peers of his age or close to it, he could tell they also had their own worldviews already set. Take the curmudgeon from Coruscant, for example. He'd been locked into the view that his planet was a Sith planet and would always be, then when faced with the reality of what they were doing here he grumblingly decided to start playing ball. Of course, Val had no idea if that was the case, it was an assumption, but he'd run with it.

No...This would need someone else. Someone not jaded by years of war and violence. Or at least, not seemingly so. He paused to think before he spoke for once, straightening his bowtie before stepping to the podium to speak. This time ego wouldn't drive his words, instead it would be his heart. "First, I am awed and proud to be part of this body, here today, to make history in the Galaxy. That being said, we'll need to work hard to make sure we're not just a flash in the pan. The galaxy is still in turmoil and we'll need a leader with a steady hand and head, yet a crafty one, to get us through it. Is that person me? I like to think so. But no. All it took was a small internal monologue just now to realize I don't have the right mindset for the job. I'm a scholar, a librarian, and I feel those of my generation are set in their chosen roles alongside being a senator as well. While that gives us expertise in our fields, it's...limiting, for this kind of role. No, a new Republic needs to be led by the new generation, though of course us old fogies will still be around to offer a cup of tea and story."

He winked at Keira as he continued. "That's why I'm going to nominate someone who had the incredible courage to even suggest this course of action. Our new leader will need to be bold, filled with determination, yet also willing to listen to others even if they don't agree with her own courses of action. She allowed us all to speak today, even in opposition to her motion, and she gave weight to everything we've said. That's a good, and rare, trait in a person. So, I formally place my vote and my faith in Senator Keira Zale to be our leader. Yes, I know she's young. We're a Republic, though, we should offer our strengths to cover each other's weaknesses for the good of us all. I offer my knowledge and the aid of my planet's facilities to that end. I look forward to a bright future under her guidance." With a small bow he sat, waiting for the others to speak. Sure, he may sound sycophantic as a voice in the back of his head seemed to yell at him, but at this point on time they had to be willing to commit everything. For him, he was all in on Keira.

The Senator of Commenor was taken aback by the sudden nomination of the Senator of Tirahnn for the position of Chancellor. With her barely six years of experience as a senator of a single planet, she could hardly be expected to manage the forming of a Republic consisting of dozens. Yet, important senators from across the political spectrum had already voiced their support. Mida understood that she was the only one that took initiative, but why not appoint an interim Chancellor during the formation and using those years to groom her to become the first proper Chancellor? There were so many questions he struggled with and again lamented the fact that his entourage and aides were still at his offices on Commenor to help him make an informed and weighted decision.

Mida Zebb did not nominate a different senator and instead sat silent. The future would show his grandchildren whether that would turn out to be a grave mistake, or a blessing for the galaxy. Commenor was served best to remain unremarkable.. profiting from the Republic in terms of trade and not becoming a stage for the greater conflict. Mida could serve that to keep the galactic spotlight off himself.

Regis was certainly fascinated to watch where this new movement went. It had immediately gained traction. Even if there were those with reservations, that was to be expected. Regis wouldn't have been surprised at all if they came around in the end. As for who would lead this new movement, the pick of the people seemed obvious.

You seem to be the favorite, Senator Zale. And I can't say I stand against the majority here, he said. She was the obvious choice, though it remained to be seen if she actually wanted the position. It had been not only her idea to put forth the idea, it had been her decision to actually act on it. In politics anyone could claim they thought of "it" first, but whoever actually did was the successful one.
