So this is it
Malkav thought.

He stood before the great temple of the Jedi on Ossus, a symbol of justice and light throughout the galaxy. Those that new of the Jedi knew of them as guardians of peace, young and old they were always wise and powerful. Many came to this temple seeking advice or help, just as Malkav was.

Malkav had come to the Jedi because he had hoped that they might help him overcome his madness and the darkness in his heart....and just maybe they might train him in the ways of the Jedi...

With a heavy sigh, he summoned his courage and climbed the steps toward the waiting temple.....

Jacen Kando, Jedi Knight stood waiting at the top of the steps in his iceblue robes. The slight wind coming off the temple steps rustled his silver hair and his silver eyes watched his new apprentice as he came up the stairs. Jacen could feel the discomfort, confusion, the.....darkness, coming from him. However it was his job as a Jedi Knight to help Malkav to learn the ways of the Jedi and to cleanse his heart of it's burden of darkness.

As Malkav walked up the long stretch of stairs toward the entrance to the temple, he spotted a lone figure at the top. As he came closer, he recognized his new teacher. The two had never met, but he had been given a description of the Jedi, and this man fit it perfectly.

Malkav finally reached the top of the stairs and approached the new Jedi. He said "Jacen Kando right?" Before he could answer, Malkav added "Nice robes..."

Jacen gave a small smile, "Indeed I am. And yes I like these robes very much thank you. Please follow me Malkav, I will give you a tour of the temple and then show you to your quarters." Jacen turned to the large double door infront of him and pushed out with his hands, opening them with not a sound.

Malkav followed behind his new master silently as he showed him around his new home. The library, where vast amounts of knowledge were held at all times. The training room, garden, and many more rooms.

They passed a few students who gave him a warm smile to try and make him feel more welcome. It didn't work.

The tour came to a abrupt halt when they stopped in front of a door. Jacen said to Malkav
"These will be your room for the duration of your stay here with us..."

Malkav countered with the statement "So....whats next.....?" He added quickly ..My master..."

Im not used to that yet he thought to himself.

Jacen gave a small smile, his silver eyes staring into Malkav's trying to decipher what he was thinking. The man was hard to read, "Get a good nights sleep and we will start your training tommorow. Welcome to the Jedi Order my apprentice, I will do my best to help you in eveything you need."

Malkav tried to get to sleep that night, but to no avail. His new room felt like more of a prison than a place of relaxation, and most of the night he lay rigid on the bed or he sat propped against the wall.

The voices haunted him as well that night, counseling him, telling him the Jedi's secrets and commanding him..

kill them all

I will not!

You want to

I said i will not!

You think your new master likes you? Ha, we can read his mind easily. He only hopes that he can use you to gain more power and prestige in Jedi Order.

His ambitions are of no surprise to me

And still you stay here!

I do what i wish

Remember Malkav...you do what WE wish

Shut your mouth

You know their watching you

I know

I can feel their presence...

Don't block it

Why?

I don't want them to sense that i can yet, it could come in handy

Ha. My friend we will rule the galaxy one day

The room was sparingly decorative, but it had all the necessary living requirements and a holo desk computer. He walked over to the dresser and opened it to find a traditional Jedi padawan robe.

Am i supposed to wear this?

Oh.....hell no.....

Malkav dressed in the robe and sat cross legged in the middle of the room as the sun started to breach into the window. He awaited the teachings that his master would bring for the day.

Jacen knocked on the door and then entered, "Good morning Malkav.....oh." He looked to see Malkav sitting on the floor, rings around his eyes from lack of sleep.

"Hmmmm, didn't get a good night's sleep? When I first came here I didn't either. But that was because it was way to quiet. Now come."

Jacen beckoned then started walking down the long hallway.

Malkav quickly stood up and shuffled alongside his master as they walked the halls of the Jedi temple. Malkav said "Yes, i did not get much sleep last night, of that you are right. I am sure that i will sleep better tonight however.."

I better

You will

As they walked he continued, saying "So master...what shall be the first lesson?"

"Well Malakv, I need to see what I should focus on with your training to better suit you and give you a place you can truly succed in within the order."

Jacen brought him to small room with a ring in the center. Statues lined the sides of the room.

"Do you have any basic conceptual grasp of using the Force Malkav?"

"Allright good, can you lift one of those statues?" Jacen gestured to the statues lining the room, each one weighed at least a ton as they were made out of a very dense rock. "Go ahead and try it."

Malkav raised a eyebrow at those words. He looked to the statue, then to his master, then back to the statue. He said "Lift.....those statue's?"

His master nodded.

Malkav closed his eyes and slowly started to concentrate on the statue. He thought about nothing but the statue, and its texture, how it felt, cold in his hands. A clear picture of the rock appeared in his mind.

And then the picture expanded to not only the statue, but its surroundings. Instead of just feeling the statue, Malkav now suddenly felt the whole room. He could sense the bugs crawling on the walls, the pollen on the floor, the fruit from the nearby trees, he felt like he knew it all.

But Malkav turned back to the task at hand. He focused on the statue once more, this time he pictured it moving from slowly from its pedastal. Yes, he felt it..he could do it!

"Use your power!!"

A booming voice interrupted in his thoughts and concentration, another example of the power struggle within his mind. Bits of pebble flew in his face. After dusting himself off, he looked at the statue once again...

Its face looked like it was hit with a small wave that cracked all the features and caved in the face. Malkav stood in shock for a minute and then began to apologize to his master profusely.

Jacen's silver eyes were wide, "Malkav, what was that? When you let loose that wave of power there was something else there too." Jacen looked him in the eyes, "Please Malkav, if there is something you aren't telling me tell me now. I can't help you if I don't know what is happening. The power you just demonstrated is amazing and yet at the same time it scares me Malkav that you might forget yourself and hurt and innocent."

Malkav hesitated. He said "Master....I have a difficult condition....I do not wish to talk about it..."

When his master pressed on the matter with more intensity Malkav replied with a snarl "Alright! You want to know? I'm half Miralukan. There blood has poisoned my mind. I hear things..."

His master wore a confused expression. Malkav sighed and continued, now obviously more calm. "I hear...voices. Evil voices. They tell me to do things....evil things....horrible things..." He added quickly "But i do not heed them! Not on topics of violence..."

You shouldn't have told him.....

What does it matter to you?

He could try to complicate things, more than they already are

Jacen had a solemn look on his face, "No Malkav, your Miralukan side hasn't poisoned your mind. Tell me, when do these voices talk to you?"
Jacen remembered reading about phenomenonl like this is the Jedi Archives and wanted to get a grasp of exactly what Malkav had.

He's asking to many questions

Malkav said to his master "They are with me always master. They always speak, they never cease. They always offer information, provoke me to kill or hurt, or do other unworthy deeds...."

Jacen nodded, "I had a similar experience happen to me when I was younger. I served in the miltary before I started training to become a Jedi and I fell in love with a girl from one of the villages. We decided we were going to get married but then one day the enemy attacked the village and I watched my brideto be get slain in front of me by an enemy soldier. I spent a year tracking him down untill eventually I found his house. There he was with his wife smiling and laughing. So I kicked in the door and knocked him out, tying him up. When he came to I made him watch me kill his wife then I killed him. Malakv, for a year after that I heard their voices in my head. It was one of the most horrendous things I have ever gone through but it was brought around by my anger. Tell me, when you were younger did you ever do anything out of pure anger or hate?"

After thinking for a minute, Malkav said "Not usually, not unless the voices told me. These voices.....they've always been here. Ever since i was born. I am glad for you master, i really am, but i fear there shall be no cure for my ailment...."

Cure? We are not a disease upon you.

Thats the only way he would get what i was trying too say

You left out all the good we do

Would he believe me?

No, he wouldn't. You are right in your decision.

I trust him

I pose no argument to trusting him, in fact i was going to tell you that you could.

Even after what he said?

It matters not. I see the truth, you know this?

......what else do you see?

Wouldn't you like to know?.....perhaps later tonight....

Be good on your word

I always am

Malkav stood before his teacher now and said "Master....please accept my apologizes for hiding this from you...i feared i would not be able to train here.." He bowed his head in shame. "Master......I don't want to give in to the voices.....I did not mean to destroy the statue or disrespect the Jedi in any way..it is just a hard fight sometimes..."

"You have nothing to appologize for Malkav. I believe that your struggle will make you all the better of a Jedi. I know you don't mean to Malkav, I can sense the goodness in you. We simply have to focus on all that is good in you so you can ignore the voices. Much the same way a man can learn to live with a wound that causes him permanent pain you may need to learn to use the Force without letting the voices influence you."

Jacen smiled at him, "But for now, let's try some melee combat."

Jacen pulled two traing saber's from a shelf and threw one to Malkav, "They won't damage you but they will hurt worse then the morning after an all night binge if they hit you."
