Somewhere, Space
Selene wasn't a pilot, truth be told she just wasn't a big fan of flying. If she could, she would never step foot on a ship. Being out in space with just a thin strip of metal keeping you from the cold, dark kiss of vacuum was not something she went out of her way to seek. She didn't like flying, she didn't like space, and people who knew her knew that. Rose on the other hand, rose was perfectly fine putting her life in the hands of a someone else while she burried her discomfort with flying deep below her fondness for credits. It was part of the ruse, the long con she was playing on...well everyone, maybe even herself.
So here she was, putting her life in the hands of a space junkie she barely knew. And that's all they were, all the wild smugglers, hotshot pilots, and the sort that the syndicates seemed to attract. Crazy, the lot of them. But a job was a job, and space travel was a big part of the job. Always was, and always would be. So when this particular smuggler had reached out to Selene the fixer for help with some gigs, she had signed up her trusty little mercenary contact, Bloody Rose. And so it was that she found herself sitting in the co-pilot's seat aboard a ship that looked to her like every other ship in the market, a mobile casket. And with them waiting for pirates to show up so that they could pick a fight with them, well that just made it all that more likely that this would be where she died. Getting attacked by pirates was just one of the many bad things that could happen to you in space, pretty high up on that list at that, and fool that she was she had agreed to willingly subject herself to that scenario. Sure, she had needed the credits, and it had been an easy way to see if this smuggler was as good as he claimed to be. But she really couldn't believe any of that as they waited for the pirates to show up.
"So," she spoke up into the silence, "how prompt are these pirates of yours?"
