Or maybe not, I don't know.
What I do know is I'm bored and have the sudden urge to write a Lovecraftian style horror story.
Now I could just scribble all this down in a word document off-site and file it away under “never to be seen again”. But where's the fun in that? Instead, I had the idea to turn this into a DnD style adventure featuring yours truly as yourcruel and merciless humble DM.
I'm fairly certain almost everyone has a pretty firm grasp of what “Lovecraftian” means, and what Lovecraft is all about. But for those of you unfamiliar with the mythos, these kind of stories often involve extra dimensional monsters, evil cults, and heavy doses of horror style tropes centered around the discovery and pursuit of forbidden knowledge – which usually (often inevitably) end with everyone going insane and/or getting murdered.
Translation: super happy fun time with Cthulhu!
That said, death won't be a thing in this situation. I mean, unless you really really want your character to die for some reason. That's your call, and I won't stop you if that's how you want to play it. Otherwise, everyone will be safe... more or less. >:]
Obviously this type of story won't appeal to everyone, and not every type of character will fit; for example, a Sith warrior who just wants to play juggernaut and murderize everything won't be a good fit for this. With that in mind, I'm really only willing to open this to 3-4 players, and sign-ups won't be first come first serve. If you are interested in signing up, I would ask that you assess your character first and ask yourself if this is the kind of thing you could reasonably see them getting caught up in. That said, I won't restrict characters to any one faction, all comers will be welcome; with the understanding that you all play nice and try not to murder each other because “I'm a Sith and he's a Jedi! Raaaaargh!”
Now that that's all out of the way, on to the premise!
The basic gist of this story begins as all horror stories do: a disparate group of complete strangers are drawn together by a mysterious collusion of happenstance to face an all powerful cosmic force hellbent on the destruction of the universe as we know it. Okay, maybe not all horror stories start off like that, but this one does. In the ensuing events, your characters will venture to the very fringes of reality to face all manner of nightmarish perils as they struggle to find answers, unravel the threads and maintain their (ever tenuous) grip on sanity. In the end though, and despite seemingly impossible odds, the good guys win the day, get the girl (or guy, if that's how you swing) and ride off into the sunset.
Or something like that.
So, is this anything anyone would be interested in?
I realize my lack of a set up or further information on plot and premise, but for all intents and purposes this is just my interest check. I don't want to devote a ton of time racking my brain and writing my fingers to the bone on something no one is going to show interest in. If there does appear to be some interest in this though, please let me know by replying to this thread and I'll add more to this post later to clue you all in on the set up and all that other good crap that goes into storytelling.
