No doubt this will get shot down in flames, but it is just a suggestion. Let me first state that I would be willing to take on the responsibility for this task.
This idea was stimulated by a comment somebody made on another thread, about how nothing mattered or affected the larger universe, apart from capturing grid squares.
I might be talking nonsense here, but this idea could change the way people look at threads and their greater relevance. (If they want to).
Here it is, boiled down to its simplest form.
A thread is started, perhaps called something like: "List of Events". (I really stink at coming up with titles, lol.)
This thread would contain an alphabetical list of planets. Taken from here, perhaps:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_planets
If an event was of great significance, such that it would affect a lot of people on the planet, be in the news, or alter the planet in any significant way...
Anyone can post a brief summary of the event, with a link to prove it happened obviously.
Myself or an appointed Moderator could take a quick look through the thread, just to vet any threads that are just one person saying "hey I built a shipyard above Corellia singlehandedly."
Provided that neither the Moderator or other members object to the event (cheating, unbelievable, too powerful etc.), which most people would hopefully not do as these events would make no real difference to the state of the war or who 'wins', the event would be added by the Moderator. Just a quick cut and paste job.
Example:
"Jedi Temple on Lothal destroyed."
Link to thread.
Until somebody objects, after having a quick look at the thread maybe, the Moderator puts that event in under Lothal.
If there is a major dispute, although this will be unlikely as most events could just be things like "factory destroyed on Gorse, thorilide no longer produced" or "Election held on Naboo, new ruler institutes such-a-law", or "Ancient mysterious tomb found on Korriban".
These are just random examples, but I'm trying to show that these are not things that will change who wins the war, they just add flavour to anyone visiting the planet.
Maybe people could use the list to stimulate ideas for a story. Reasons to visit such-a-planet. :)
So basically:
1) If you want to, submit a thread and event to be listed on the Events page
2) Mod has a quick look to see if it's poorly written nonsense. If not, adds it to the list.
3) Every member has the right to ask for the event to be removed if they think it is cheating or unfair in some way. ie Republic builds Super invincible Death Star over such-a-planet, with only Republic members allowed to post.
The events should not be so powerful or be so extreme though, in the main.
The point of all this?...
I just thought it would be nice if, on completing a well thought out and well written story, someone could post it in 'Events', and then anyone who starts a thread could (IF they chose to) have a quick look at this alphabetical list of planets and see if there are any 'events' that they could tie into their story or mention, IF they wanted to.
Don't want your story added to the Events list? Don't submit it, then.
Don't want to take into account the events listed here in your story on a particular planet? Then don't read the Event thread. ;)
No big deal, nobody will tell you off. ;)
I'm not great with words, but I am trying to say... This would not be an establishing of Canon that everybody must abide by. That way lies madness and endless fights OOC.
But if you want to feel that your thread has something that people would hear about, or leaves a physical effect on the planet/landscape somehow.. Submit it to the 'Events' thread (name needs to be improved, lol.)
Voila. You may have just made a small but significant impact on the larger universe. Other people can read your thread, or the summary at least, and react to those events.
E.g Someone comes to dig in the ruins of the Temple that you discovered on Dathomir or wherever, using your description perhaps (if they wanted to).
This is only a rough idea.
Please do consider the idea. As I said, I would be more than happy to run the thread, I know that Admins don't need more work.
Please share any thoughts/suggestions or questions here.
Thanks guys/gals. :)
