DESCRIPTION​

The Laser, Infantry Portable, Anti-Vehicle Rifle, more commonly known as the LIP gun, is a heavy weapon manufactured by the Ghephanne Deeper-Craters Weaponmakers corporation of Adumar. One of the Galaxy's premier anti-armor weapons, the LIP is very simple in principle. Essentially, it is a starfighter-grade light laser cannon, dismounted and placed in a nominally portable housing which allows it to be used by a soldier on the ground. 2 soldiers, more accurately; the weapon is heavy enough that it requires 2 individuals to move in most cases, with the second person acting as a loader and spotter for the gunner.

The LIP is capable of punching through the armor of most vehicles which are to be encountered on the battlefield. Though it generally cannot penetrate a heavy or medium tank's frontal plating, it is more than adequate to deal with side armor on medium tanks, rear armor on heavy tanks and weak points on all, and can penetrate a light tank from any angle. Effective range is about 400 meters, uncomfortably close in many cases, requiring careful planning and concealment for a successful shot. Upon penetrating the target, the weapon's bolt does not have the same dramatic explosive effect as a conventional anti-tank rocket; they inflict more precise damage, and are best for taking out specific systems, such as individual crew positions, weapons, drive systems and communication gear.

Notably, the LIP does not have a scope, nor any provisions for mounting one. While accurate within its effective range, using the weapon as a sniper rifle against soft targets such as infantry is generally frowned upon, and is in fact considered a war crime under multiple interstellar treaties.

Restricted. Personal ownership of anti-vehicle weapons is considered illegal on most worlds, or will at least draw unwanted scrutiny from law enforcement, among others.

RESTRICTIONS​

Under not circumstances is the LIP anti-vehicle rifle to be used in a PvP encounter against another player, or against non-vehicular targets in general. They can be used in PvP to attack and disable vehicles, but not their crews.
