Lightsaber Axe

Intent: To provide another variation of the classic force user weapon with pros and cons and allow for more brutish combat.

MODEL: GLA-1
TYPE: Lightsaber
SIZE: Large but fairly easy to handle.
WEIGHT: 10 kilograms.
COMPOSITION: A pole comprised of multiple lightsaber hilt parts that are interchangeable to allow a change in length and two angled poles that end in the emitters that generate a beam loop. They are powered by a kyber crystal in each emitter with several focusing crystals in each.​

The lightsaber axe, nicknamed the Gamorrean Lightsaber, was first thought of when a rogue force user tried to think of a more effective, more destructive type of lightsaber and got the inspiration for a prototype from the Gamorreans. Taking scraps of broken lightsabers, he designed the first lightsaber axe prototype and was pleased with the results. Long after the force user died, his proto-axe was discovered by a Dark Jedi and redesigned to be more refined model which eventually became the GLA-1 "Gamorrean Lightsaber".

The lightsaber axe can be very unwieldy if used by an untrained individual, force sensitive or not, and can be easily destroyed in a combat with a lightsaber user. It is unwise to use the lightsaber axe in close quarters or in a small building. The main use for the lightsaber axe is intimidation or use against non force sensitives. However, an individual who has trained with the weapon and knows its limits can effectively duel and defend against another lightsaber user, utilizing the blade to defend when in close combat. Effective use is mostly slashing, and meant for targets at a distance. The most common practitioners are expected to be more brutish individuals.​

I'm just not really seeing the point of the weapon. The wheelhouse of an axe or great axe is the increased cutting power from the leverage and weight that the axe grants you - a lightsaber blade doesn't need any of that because it will cut through whatever regardless.

Not to mention, unless the whole thing is made of phrik or cortosis it's just going to get chopped in half. Try blocking a lightsaber with the meager blade on this thing, I don't think it would work out too well.

What's the point of a weapon that isn't meant for combat?

Yeah, but that blade is also somewhat practical. It can be locked into one mode, virtually doubles the length of his defense, minimizes exposed hilt areas, and allows for unconventional attacks, as well as being intimidating. This seems like a straight downgrade, and not very intimidating to boot. I mean, a lightsaber is pretty intimidating, but this kinda weird axe with a tiny blade would loose most of that.

Honestly if you really want an axe, it would be far more practical to use one made of lightsaber resistant materials. Giant gleaming battle axe, yeah then I'd be a bit intimidated.

Even in star wars I think having a crescent shaped plasma blade is a little far fetched. Thats just imo though, so YMMV.

Gamorreans have their own axes.

I don't really see the point to this. A Lightsaber is already a all-around weapon, being able to stab, thrust and slash along with cut through doors etc. What would a axe do besides look 'cool'.

Also, you mentioned the Inquisitiors lightsaber. While yes it can spin and such, it can still function as a ordinary saber. Basically it's a lightsaber with a 'kink'.

Haha he said kink....

But really id say it wouldn't be my choice of weapon, and heres why. Sure it may be a decent weapon in the right hands but none the less kinda obsolete simply for the fact a saber has a long blade, one i can (as stated before) stab, cut and deflect from any angle. The axe has one small point of true threatening contact point. Long handle, limited usage of blade kinda makes it useless against most other weapons. But like i said in the right hands maybe it could be utilized properly and to its full potential.

The only way I can see this getting accepted is if you change it into a more advanced firemen axe or the like. Something used in the civilian market.
