BIOGRAPHY
“Ok, so I know what you are thinking. Well, sometimes I actually can hear people's thoughts, but I'm not doing that right now, but I still know what you are thinking. How did this girl from such a rather feral race grow up to look this good. Well, remember we're dangerous and beautiful. Yeah, not exactly, but it was worth a try, you have to give me that. My name is Leila-Lei Barsad, or just Lei for short, I am one of those next generation Jedi Knights who everyone believed it to be a smart idea to promote instantly to knighthood to make up for well, pretty skimpy numbers if you ask me.”
“My family isn't originally from Alderann, but I am, it is where I was born, and where I call home if I ever needed a place to return to. Of course when I was really little the Jedi found me and my ability to light things on fire apparently. I had some sort of a latent gift for pyrokinetics but I really can't remember how I did it. I also never really pursued the path as I followed a different route.”
“As an aspiring youngling being fastracked into the realm of knighthood, I gotta say it's a miracle they didn't kick me out of the order for all the trouble I caused, it really is. My disciplinary file is pretty huge and I think they still use it as a teaching tool to this day. Right right, jumping on the Counciler's back is certainly not something you want to do, but to my defense, I only did it once, only once.”
“At some point, there was a change, either the threats of my masters finally got to me, or I just found something in my life when I was around the age of ten. I had realized myself. I know self is not the best word to use when you are talking about being a true guardian of the galaxy, but it is true, I suddenly realized a calm in my being and a distinct urge to be better. All of that feral energy found its way into my saberstaff, to help me fight with an unyielding ferocity or defend my patients. My Master, even though I was never taken as a Padawan by her, Master Alma is the one who showed me how to forge a real weapon to carry and use it as a Jedi should. I chose the double blades for better protection and also a better way of helping me deal with the little bastards that like to jump around a lot.”
“At fourteen I was knighted by the Order, much to the relief of many and my Master's approval. I wasn't some sort of bad kid, just a bit touched back then, but when the braid was severed, my transformation into who I am now was complete. I looked in the mirror after I had been acknowledged and said 'Lei, help them' and so I took on the path that a true Sentinel should, as a healer and defender.”
“Healing through the Force is not easy, I don't care what anyone else says, it isn't. The difference between stabilizing someone's vitals and putting them into cardiac arrest is about a few inches of pressure and a few seconds of not focusing. We make it look easy, but I can assure you it isn't. After four years of serious practice, I think I have gotten pretty good at it when not dealing with anything too severe, but still I need to focus.”
“Ever since being knighted I have always been told that I tend to be exceptionally friendly and social to the point where some feel I'm a bit too casual with my duties as a Jedi. Look, not all of us have our lightsabers stuck up our behind. I am not a protocol droid, nor an ancient sage. I am eighteen years old, eighteen, you know hormones, teenage years, finishing up puberty, that thing. I'm not going to deny myself emotion, or feeling because some old men around a table think its how we keep ourselves safe, oh no, I am going to accept it. By allowing myself to feel I can also allow myself to heal. Pretty cool rhyme there huh? I can heal the wounds my heart creates by not bottling up or denying the feelings, so that worse things will not happen. It's basic psychology. I do combat hatred and fear with patience and hope, and keep my eyes turned to the Light as much as possible, but if you piss me off I am going to tell you about it get it off my chest and move on. Simple.”
"As of today what I am doing is making great use of my survival skills for both acting as a wilderness guide and rescue operative in different systems depending on the year. I am also keeping one sharp eye out for places where the Dark Side is trying to take root. I don't really love big populated areas, but it's really the deep wilderness that you'll find people who are really trying to strengthen corruption.
“Well, that is a little bit of a glimpse into the girl that is me. I do not have much to say in where I was, or what large accomplishments have followed me around as I have none really. I haven't been shut in but it's just not been my time in these past four years to make a name for myself, though Master Alma did make a curious prediction a last time I saw her. She said 'Lei, my dear child,' remember Master Alma is a pretty old human, but she said, 'Lei, my dear child, you are about to be involved in something great where you will show plenty the light and help them heal. Don't ever change who you are,' I still don't know entirely what she meant, but I like who I am, that will not change. So, how does that arm feel now?”
Personality
- Lei is a bit different than your average stoic peaceful mind oriented Jedi. She is actually quite friendly, personable and rather outgoing. Her friends describe her as being able to ease just about any tense situation with a few words and a smile, and to have the same room bursting with laughter just after that. She is not all that jaded compared to the older Jedi, but she can hold her own in many intellectual debates especially involving psychology and medicine.
- Confident and an emotional crutch for just about everyone, Lei has the patience of stones and follows along with never bottling up or denying emotions. Her philosophy is to let out the emotion when it is experienced, good or bad, in order to prevent something worse from happening. Let believes that the quickest path to the darkside is by holding emotion in till it becomes so dammed up that it will simply shatter and break the mind.
- Inside, Lei is actually quite similar to her outside personality, though a bit quieter and more reflective. However, she tends to feel the burdens of all those around her through a very strong empathetic sense she has developed in recent years. Lei doesn't share this knowledge often, but she can immediately understand someone's emotional state to a point where it begins to influence her own. Sitting in a cesspool of hate and fear is a sure fire way to have Lei experience the same feelings, though she works hard to fight it.
- When people remark about Lei and her penchant for embracing emotion and how it can be dangerous, she will typically respond back how she is still an adolescent and growing at least for now and that it is a wise idea for her to be emotional, because spirits help the teenager who tries to keep it all in without expressing themselves.
- True to her racial profile, Lei is stubborn to a fault and has numerous feral vocalizations portraying different emotions. She finds it a bit embarrassing when someone calls her on her animistic tendencies, however she downplays it into some form of self-depreciating humor before walking off to go snack on some jerky.
The Force, The Skill, and the Blade
Fighting Style
- Lei is an exceptional duelist with the saberstaff and is well known for her very heavy fierce strikes and persevering defenses. A peer of Lei’s once described her combat style with the following statement “She hits like a brick and does not leave herself open, it's kinda unfair.”
- Her heavy hits come from enhancing her already impressive physical strength and accelerating the slash with extra torque right before impact. Lei is very efficient in minimizing how much energy she uses in a fight, making battles against her turn into wars if attrition where she seeks to outlast her enemy. Absolute Defense (Soresu) and Overwhelming Ferocity (Juyo), that is Lei’s approach. Also, despite being a saberstaff user, Lei always goes into battle assuming her opponent knows what her weapon is and knows how to fight against it, that way there is a possibility of a pleasant surprise
- A core weakness to Lei’s combat style are opponents who prefer to move and dodge rather than parry and be direct. Highly acrobatic fighters tend to constantly keep Lei on the defensive and so long as they do not make a mistake, her hopes rest in her vast amounts of stamina at this point.
- The accelerating slash could be considered Lei’s signature move along with the fact that she is quite the chatterbox when fighting, using her words to distract and weaken her opponent’s will to fight.
- The real world inspirations for this style of combat are the principles of Baijiquan and Jeet Kun Do.
Force Powers:
- Lei prefers to avoid excessive dependency on the Force citing that she wants to only use what is necessary at the time. Her passive ability to feed on and understand emotion through empathy and sensation is both a blessing and a curse, strengthening her will, yet sometimes clouding her mind through the Force.
- When she really needs to push forward and break her opponent's will to fight or scare them off, Lei will let her considerably more feral side show enhanced through the Force in a type of controlled Force Rage that causes her to bare her teeth and snarl and turn into some form of symbolic juggernaut to fight harder than ever.
- She favors enhancing her physical abilities more so than any other techniques, save for one. Outside the one technique, the standard Force Push and Pull is also used a little bit more often. Lei keeps an inward focus to a point where those who do not have adept senses wonder if she can use the Force at all, then they see her one prominent technique.
- The one technique is Healing. Leila is a well trained combat medic and healer, and all of her focus and prowess revolves around this technique. Even her exceptionally strong lightsaber skills are designed with the idea of rescuing and defending the wounded.
- Master Survivalist: Learned and natural to her race, Lei is a fantastic survivalist, able to equip and adjust herself to just about every single type of environment. She keeps herself updated and well informed about the conditions and locations of any area of a planet she is visiting so that her surroundings never surprise her. Lei is also capable of going off alone with nothing but the clothes on her back and able to survive well enough
- Enhanced Hearing: Like the rest of her kind, Lei can hear better than the average human and in a much greater range, though really high pitched sounds (think dog whistle) actually hurt her ears.
- Enhanced Eyesight: Also being Firrerreo, Lei can see into the Ultra-Violet spectrum of light though the nictitating membranes in her eyes protect her from sudden changes of light and brightness.
- Regenerator: True to her species, Lei is capable of regenerating non-fatal wounds in a matter of moments to hours based on the severity. Blood loss is not something she ever risks, however Lei knows that her racial regeneration requires her body to slow down and stay out of serious combat so she can quietly let her wounds sew themselves back up
- Deceptive Strength: Lei is surprisingly strong for her appearance, and even if weakened or malnourished she is still as strong as a full grown and healthy human male.
- Combat Medic: Even when the Force is not an option, Lei knows how to treat wounds on the field the old fashioned way with chems, bandages, sweat, and luck like any standard medical officer.
- Novice Pilot: Lei knows how to get from Point A to Point B in a Starship, and can figure out most controls, but she couldn't possibly make the Kessel Run
- Average Shot: Sometimes The Force is not the best answer, nor the lightsaber. Sometimes even unarmed combat is not wise when one is trying to lay low, so with that in mind, Lei has made sure she knows how to shoot a gun, namely a hand blaster
