EQUIPMENT

DESCRIPTION
The L02 Excel is a heavy starfighter concept developed by Orn Offensive Objectives, a small Mid Rim combat spacecraft manufacturer. In the past, OOO has mostly built products under license from other companies, although they have gained a reputation for adding their own "special sauce" to everything they produce, resulting in ships which are just a little bit better than their OEM equivalents. After many years of improving other people's toys, however, OOO hopes that their first original design, the Excel, will be the breakout success they need to push more of their own products going forward.

The Excel was designed as a dedicated penetration starfighter, able to fly into the heart of enemy territory for precision strike missions, reconnaissance and forward interdiction. Faster and more capable in a nekfight than a typical starbomber, the Excel functions as its own escort, with the idea being that a squadron of such machines could wreak untold destruction on lightly-armed enemy interceptors and ships in port, among other targets. They could be used on missions too dangerous for traditional strike craft, or could be used to establish aerospace superiority far ahead of an advancing fleet.

The Excel's specifications are impressive. Flown by a single pilot, the type has a top speed of 110 MGLT, as well as a class 1 hyperdrive, both impressive for such a large design. Armament consists of a pair of medium laser cannons in the wings, plus a fixed light laser cannon mounted aft; although this last can't really be aimed, it acts as a deterrent to any craft attempting to get into a standard chase position. There is also a 6-round proton torpedo launcher, as well as a pair of 5-shot concussion missile launchers clustered around the cockpit. For defense while landed, the Excel mounts a retractable repeating blaster turret, which can be operated by the pilot or by a rudimentary automatic targeting system; it must be trained to recognize the pilot using biometric data, however, to avoid friendly fire. There is also a high-resolution sensor package, allowing the Excel to collect detailed reconnaissance data.

To date, very few Excels have been built beyond test models used for development. However, the design has been finalized, and production examples can be purchased on a case-by-case basis. OOO is hoping for a major military contract to finance full mass production.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Excel-class starfighters are combat spacecraft, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT
To create an advanced deep strike starfighter

RESTRICTIONS
Due to the highly sophisticated nature of their systems, L02 Excel-class starfighter are incompatible with all aftermarket upgrade components.
