DESCRIPTION​

The Kidem-class "mikrokonter" is a small warship used by the Satrapy of the Frontier Territories. The Kidem's classification is roughly analogues to a corvette; capital ships built in the Satrapy are classified as mikrokonters, mesaiokonters and megalokonters, translating broadly as corvettes, frigates and cruisers, respectively.

The Kidem is itself a fairly old design, the first examples having been commissioned into service several centuries ago, with various refit programs keeping the basic hull-form's technology and capabilities up to date. Essentially a scaled-down version of an older, much larger warship, it is well armed and armored by the standards of the Stygian Reaches; currently, Kidem-class mikrokonters are equipped with 2 dual cyclobeamer turrets, 4 quad beamer cannon turrets for close-in defense, a pair of concussion missile launchers and a tractor beam projector. The design has heavy trikiirium armor plating over the majority of its hull, reinforced by a magnetic seal generator to enhance the armor's reflective properties. The Kidem has a small hangar, typically carrying up to 2 starfighters and a single shuttle. Top speed is some 60 MGLT equivalent, coupled with a class 4 hyperdrive and an independent navicomputer, a relative rarity aboard vessels in the Stygian Reaches.

The Kidem is one of the most common single designs in the Satrapese Navy. They are used for everything from routine patrols to exploration to special forces insertion, and everything in-between. Most worlds in the Satrapy are detailed a squadron of Kidems as a minimum defensive measure; in the event of an invasion of Satrapese space, these forces are meant to harass and delay the enemy until the main Satrapese fleet can arrive.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Kidem-class mikrokonters are classified as capital ships under Stygian Reaches law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

INTENT​

To create a standard corvette-scale capital ship used by the Satrapy.

RESTRICTIONS​

Kidem-class mikrokonters capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size. They are also only produced in the Stygian Reaches, and are not available in the old Galaxy unless specially imported.
