The capital city of Charaan burned tonight. Two nights ago a fifteen years old human girl named Ria Beni fell off the rooftop of apartment complex in front of a hundred witnesses. Fortunately the suspected killer was caught fleeing the scene and taken into custody and only rumor to spread that it was a force wielder. Adding to scars of the Hundred Year Darkness anti-force sentiment ignited into outright violence when the authorities refused to hand over the prisoner to the mob.

As result chaos swept through the streets ever since. The sheer brutality of the riot took Chardaan’s security forces literally by surprise. Currently they’re struggling to restore law and order here.

Freya’s breath, they’re tearing through their own city apart! Segreant Talos Barrenfist thought with amazement, standing on the front ramparts of the Republic Embassy. The bearded marine checked his rifle again for the sixth time in an row.“Always get anxious when a fight going on and I’m not in the thick of it.”He muttered with evident frustration.

Though even the Deculatian reminded himself he and the three platoons of Judicial peacekeepers present had orders. Secure the embassy and safeguard its staff while Charaanian security forces put down the riot. Word came from high command itself and hence to be obeyed. Talos couldn’t help but shake his head.

My blood is screaming out to join the fray while my brain tells me to stay put. Barrenfist proceeded to pull out a cigar, placing it in the left-hand side of his jaw before lit the cigar with a lighter. Puffing smoke from the nostrils Talos put the light back in a pocket, returning his gaze toward to the carnage outside.

Evandav Bervarn joined the fellow Republic soldier at the front ramparts with his blaster rifle, scrubbed clean a few hours ago. He had arrived on the planet yesterday, to reinforce the garrison at the embassy, with civil unrest running high. He is orders from command were to guard this embassy, whether that meant using lethal force or not was a different matter. He decided against using too much force, but if someone got shot he wouldn’t cry over it. He watched the city struggle to cope with the rioters, and security forces proving incable so far, of dealing with them. Strange really why such outrage had occurred for what seemed to be a decent handling of the situation. The killer caught, arrested and presumably about to be tried by the authorities. Word had spread that the mob was angry at the fact that the said killer had not been given to them, especially with the rumours flying round that the killer was a force user. Some anti sentiment of Force Users it appeared. He hoped to see some action, maybe a heroic last stand at the embassy, killing hundreds and winning a few medals or so. But Evandav doubted that would happen. It would a cool way to die if that did happen though Evandav thought.
“Dying on a backwater planet like this though? No thanks” he thought. Eventually, he got tired of thinking and spoke to the fellow soldier beside him.
“Something’s made them angry.”

Such a comment nearly caused Talos to burst out laughter. Understatement of the year. He reflected, turning to the other soldier, recognizing him as the lieutenant Evandav Bervarn who arrived yesterday. The Deculatian honestly didn’t know what to think of the officer so far.

Deciding not to make things awkward by staying quiet, instead Sergeant Barrenfist said. “Sir I get that many people hate force wielders but this seems too extreme even for a riot. Something seems to be off about all of this...” Just as he finished, Talos observed a blue colored speeder driving at frantic speed toward the embassy from the street corner on the right-hand. Instantly raising his rifle and aimed down the sights at the car, he sends an alert on the comm channel to the garrison.

Then the speeder suddenly at the gate just below Evandav and Talos. Out from the side door appeared a local cop, in an bloodied and torn uniform. She looked up at the two sentries with pleading eyes and raised both of her arms to show she wasn’t a hostile.

“I’m Officer Seto of the Nika police department. Inside the car with me is a prisoner who needs protection and your superiors are already aware of our coming. Please let us through the mob coming here any second!”

Keeping the blaster leveled at the lady officer, he asked Evandav.“Orders Lieutenant?

“Who knows what some people do Seargeant, thankfully the priority isn’t to figure out why they’re rioting, but to stop anything happening here at the embassy. If you get that in your head, you should be fine.” Evandav said sternly. He didn’t want any conflicting beliefs to affect the performance of this soldier in battle, any exterior hatred to force wielders compromising the embassy. He was sure the soldier wouldn’t and would do his duty, but he still covered that base off.

As the speeder approached, Evandav watched it and raised his rifle as well, but seeing the officer come out in a bloody uniform, he lowered it again. Hearing her speak why she was here, and the Seargeant asking for orders, he had to think quickly. He whispered to the Sergeant
“If we let them in, the mob will turn against the embassy. But if we leave them to die... Obvious consequences will occur...”
Evandav thought for a second before shouting back
“Why can you not reach your local police station, and who is the prisoner?”
He hoped to gain some answers quickly, as apparently the mob would be here any second now. At least if the embassy is compromised, the Republic Navy arm of the Judicial Forces or whatever they called themselves now would come in and flatten everything. Hopefully. Or at least that’s what Evandav thought, to make him important in galactic history, not just some common soldier turned nameless in the history books.

Barrenfist had to resist rolling his eyes in front of the lieutenant. He hoped Evandav makes a decision soon or else he will fire some warning shots to scare the local off even if he would get in trouble for it. Wouldn’t be the first time I got thrown into the brig. Talos reminded himself, with no amount of amusement. Meanwhile a dozen more marines arrived at the ramparts, lining alongside the duo.

Keeping the rifle aimed, the Deculatian looked as their guest became frantic, glancing back from the street she came from and answered in an hollow voice.“My station is gone, burned to the ground by those frakking animals and our forces are stretched thin. As for the prisoner he’s the one the mob wanted along. The suspect in the Beni case that started this madness.”

Just as officer Seto confessed that out, Talos and Evandav heard from their commlinks, the captain of the embassy garrison. “Allow them through boys now. They been expected.” Suddenly from the far-flung corner of the street, the squad of peacekeepers saw and heard hundreds of people marching down with burning torch’s and various weapons. Once they saw the police car the crowd surged forward howling for murder.

“Seargeant get those people in now, and prepare for battle!” Evandav roared as he rushes down pre-emptively rushed down to the door, unlocked it and opened it when he heard the orders come in. He ushered the officer and the prisoner to the door of the embassy, before allowing its staff to carry the 2 in. As he did, he shouted
“Seargeant, close and lock that door!”
As he rushed back to the walls, he looked on as the mob rushed to the embassy, having sighted the speeder.
“Damn, we could’ve destroyed the speeder had we had more time or equipment...”
Now, he spoke into his commlinks.
“Sir, do we shoot to kill against the mob?”
He wouldn’t go gunning down everyone he saw, but if they tried to break down the door he would fire. Meanwhile, he looked across. More marines had arrived. Good. They would be needed for the task to come.

Don’t have to tell me twice. Keeping that sentiment to himself, following the LT down the nearby stair to the door below. He assisted in unlatching the gate and watched Seto bring in her prisoner and was to see a...frightened teenage Rodian? The Deculatian could only spare a glance before proceeding to close and locked down the door, just as the murderous crowd were apporching. Then he ran back up at the ramparts.

Checking his rifle once more Talos muttered. “It’s going be one hell of night, and that’s fine with me.” Raised to fight since youth, this was unexpected challenge but not an unwelcome one. At that moment the marine sergeant heard command’s reply to Evandav through the comms.

“Set your weapons to stun for now. Only to shoot to kill as a last resort.” With a frustrated groan Talos obeyed, turning on the stun mode for the gun alongside the others. He stared back at the incoming mob, and barked at the marines all around.

“Get ready you bunch of whoresons here they come!”

The rushing rabble was only a couple of yards away while the marines awaited the command of Evandav to fire.

Evandav set his weapon to stun and aimed over the barricade with his weapon. He then raised his weapon in the air, and fired 3 blaster bolts, shouting to the crowd.
“Do not go any further towards this embassy! This is your final warning!” Before aiming at the crowd. He ordered his soldiers to watch your targets, don’t go for the same one as each other, and decided to shoot the lead one in the head with a stun bolt. He took him down with pinpoint accuracy, before ordering all his soldiers
“Fire at Will!”

The mob refused to heed the warning shots, surging closer and closer. Eyes down on the sight, Talos watched his commander stun the leader in front before being given the order to fire. Instantly all the marines fired repeated shots of stun bolts into the masses below. Dozens of rioters began dropping in front, slowing down the charge.

Talos reloaded a new clip and kept on firing.

As Evandav continued to gun down the rioters, he felt a certain thrill as he did so, unlike any feeling he had when he was part of the RDC. Seeing waves of rioters going down, this was almost... fun to him. However, he had to keep his cool, and immediately noticed the door as a potential point of entry for the rioters.
“Seargeant, you and 1 marine begin to barricade the door with furniture or anything you can, just make the door tougher to break through!” As Evandav continued to fire

“Copy that. Ricar time to haul ass!” Sergeant Barrenfist shouted to the private on his left. They ran off, leaving the rest of the platoon to head down to the lower level. Simultaneously the rioters not stunned began to fight back. Some threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the wall.

Others began to scatter, some to flee and others to take cover with whatever they can find. Those of the latter pulled out weapons, blasters and slugthrowers, firing at the defenders. One shot caught a marine in the face, killing her instantly. The sight of their dead comrade was more than reason for the RJF members to turn off stun mode. Soon lethal crimson lasers rain down upon the hostile locals.

Seeing a private shot in the head and killed instantly, Evandav took cover and ordered the rest of the soldiers to take cover, and duck when necessary. When he saw the marines begin to shoot to kill, he shouted
“HOLD FIRE! DO NOT SHOOT TO KILL!!!!”, and continued to fire away with stun bullets. However, as the Molotov cocktails soon came flying towards them, and more rioters began to fire blasters, he ordered all but two marines down the wall, whilst the 2 left behind would continue firing on the rioters
“Set up sandbags and barricades 2 meters from the door! Surround the door with these defences, make sure they can’t get past without clambering over the sandbags or our dead bodies!” As Evandav helped with the work

While Evandav with most of the platoon were busy falling back, Talos and Ricar were still busy with barricading the door as ordered. The sergeant swore to himself having just heard what happen back at the ramparts. Soon he and the private join the platoon in setting up sandbags and furniture as makeshift barriers.

“Sarge those bastards killed Taina.” A yellow Twi’lek male exclaimed behind him.“Focus on the now private, you can’t help her!” He snapped back, laying against a set of sandbags. Just then they recieved a new message from command inside the embassy.

“All units you are now authorized to use lethal force against any hostiles that break through.”

Hearing that Talos muttered under his breath the words ‘about time’ before switching off the stun mode on his rifle. Using the the new defenses, the marines waited anxiously while they heard the crowd gather again and pounding the door violently. With what seemed like foroever Barrenfist with finger on the trigger stared in front until an explosion burst off the the door.

Smoke followed and then screaming rioters. Talos without hesistion opened fire, alongside the rest of the defenders.

As Evandav heard the orders come in, he shouted
“All marines set weapons to kill! Show no mercy, you won’t receive any!” And he set his weapon to kill. He aimed down his sights at the door as it crumpled against the mob, making sure everything was working for his rifle, before the door then smashed open. He began firing, and continued to pour blaster bolts through the gap where the door once had been, as the rest of the marines did the same.

Instantly the attackers in front were mowed down by the hail of lasers. Bodies dropping to the ground slowed down the charge, as the surviving rioters tried not to trip over one another only to be struck by blaster bolts. The gunners among the mob exchanged with shots with RJF garrison. However the marines’ ironclad discipline and a lethal combination of marksmanship and firepower was more than a match for the mob’s fury.

Rage was now replaced with terror as the would-be killers promptly began to rout. They literally stumbled over one another to get out of the embassy entrance as fast as possible. Left behind were a vast pile of the dead and dying and soon enough guards ceased shooting as the mob began to disperse. In mass panic they fled further away from the street, abandoning any further intention to storm the facility again. Talos was pulling in a fresh clip when he notices the Twi’lek from earlier grasping a wound in the left shoulder and grimacing in pain.

“Guess you got a pair after all.” Barrenfist remarked in subtle praise to the young private.

“Yes sarge.” The boy replied through clenched teeth, trying to keep from crying out from the searing agony. The marines remained at their defenses while the medics among them began to check the wounded.

“Move the lad and all wounded into the embassy. Detain all those who are stunned, tie them down and place them outside the embassy to be left to the local authorities. Repair the door also. A fine job gentlemen!” Evandav ordered and reloaded his rifle. He didn’t know how many he killed, he had lost track. But that wasn’t important anymore. He shouted
“Seargeant, help me carry this soldier in!” He shouted as he held the wounded soldier’s head. It had been a good day’s work, and now it was time to recuperate their losses.

Segreant Talos bellowed to the marines not wounded to carry out the new set of orders given to them. He then helped Evandav carry one of the wounded men. It had been eventful night that for sure. Still the cleanup is going to be a mighty pain in the ass.

——————————-
Half an hour later the now recognized local security forces moved in and secured the area around the embassy. Thanks to the RJF marines lead by Evandav the suspect in the murder case that caused this riot was transfer to back to their custody.

The End
