"It is only through interaction, through decision and choice, through confrontation, physical or mental, that the Force can grow within you."

To understand the history of Kaul Solimar one must first understand the history of the Solimar family as a whole.

The Solimars were a wealthy family of bankers from the Core Systems. Although their actual origin cannot be traced it is generally accepted that the majority of the Solimar clan did, in fact, originate on Hosnian Prime. For generations the Solimar family had worked to rise above their rank, each generation seeking to supplant the last. In the waning days of the Old Republic, the Solimars were an up and coming family on the galactic stage, Kaul's grandfather, Dane Solimar being the most prominent figure in the Hosnian system politically and financially. Despite this, no official political office was held by the family. Thus, it was no surprise when Kaul's father, Tybalt Solimar, ran for galactic senate as a representative for Hosnian Prime. Backed by his wealthy father, Tybalt won by a landslide. The Solimar family, who had for generations built themselves up to this moment had finally achieved their goal of pushing into the closed world of galactic politics.

A few months after this victory, Dane died, leaving Tybalt as the sole patriarch of the Solimar clan. Whereas Dane had been a wise and patient man, Tybalt was vain, entitled and greedy. Despite the work that the past heads of the family had put into the position Tybalt now occupied, he had no interest in the day to days of being a senator. He recklessly began to sell his seat to the highest bidder, casually using his political office as a way to further his wealth. He ignored his constituents and would use his wealth to threaten and beat down those who attempted to speak out. To make matters worse he grossly mismanaged the fortune he had been bestowed, casually spending his inheritance on luxuries and signs of status to please his rich friends from the senate.

Kaul was born sometime after Tybalt had become a senator. He was born on Hosnian Prime and was an only child. He was raised by servants primarily, being home schooled and generally shut away from the average life of a core world citizen of the Republic. Despite this, Kaul grew up with a general interest in the outside world. He rebelliously would sneak out of the family estate and go on adventures in the lower city and would, at times, make friends with lower class children, posing as one himself. His father and mother rarely saw him, electing to spend most of their time on Coruscant or Chandrila at one of their various homes. Kaul dreamed to run away and explore the galaxy, leaving behind his sheltered life and making his own way. Little did he know his chance would come sooner than he thought.

When the Sith Brotherhood conquered Chandrila Kaul was 19 years old. Despite his solitude he had heard the stories of the Sith. He knew of the rise of the Mandalorians and the capture of Coruscant, the destruction of Tython, however he had been assured that the march would be halted soon, always soon. Thus, he was truly shocked when he awoke to find that the Senate building had been bombed and the Republic, the corrupt base that the Solimar family had risen and then stagnated on, had fallen. In an instant Kaul's life changed forever. Angry at the injustice of the Tybalt Solimar the people of Hosnian Prime proceeded to sack the estates of the Solimars, forcing Kaul, now an orphan to flee for his life.

Fortunately, Kaul had made friends in his time exploring the lower city of Hosnian Prime. Abandoned or betrayed by his servants he was taken in by Tost Mansal, a local gang boss and childhood friend. Fearing for his life as the son of a senator, Tost arranged for Kaul to get out of Sith space. The final destination being the Smuggler's Moon, Nar Shadaa.

Upon arriving on Nar Shadaa Kaul was put in contact with the resident Hutt crime lord who agreed to shelter and protect the young man so long as he served him. The Hutts put Kaul under thumb of a small gang known as the Tower Gangers. The Towers were generally small time criminals, running small bookies, protection rackets and the like. However, they gave the Hutts a large cut of their profits and, in return, were allowed to run territory unmolested by Hutt agents. It was from the Towers, more specifically their leader Iven Kalo, that the Kaul of today was truly forged.

Over the next five years Kaul learned more than he had in his entire life. He learned the ways of the street, how to collect, how to run rackets and, perhaps most importantly, how to fight and how to kill. He became a very efficient, if brutal, fighter, combining bladed weapons with blasters to devastating effect. Now, at the age of 24, Kaul continues to serve the Tower Gangers as a collector and enforcer. Currently the Towers are engaged in a war with the Vertical Syndicate (or the Verts). As the war wages Kaul is pushed to commit more brutal acts by his superiors and he stands at a cross roads as he hesitates to truly embrace the criminal underworld. He cannot help but look to the stars some nights and wonder if this is all the fates have in store for him and if he is to live out the remainder of his life and die on the Smuggler's Moon.

However, the fates are fickle things and they are not yet done with this exile.

Kaul is an averaged size man at 6 feet tall. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a soft white skin. He weighs roughly around 200 pounds, having become quite muscular in his time working for the Tower Gangers and, while not overweight in any sense, could not be called skinny or scrawny.

The best way to describe Kaul is in a word is hard. Having resigned himself to the life he now lives he wears a thick and unkept beard and rarely is done up in any way, perhaps due to his strict upbringing. He wears patchwork clothing, common amongst the low level gangs on Nar Shadaa but has some low tech armour he keeps for emergencies. In general, Kaul looks like an enforcer, a hard man few average citizens would like to encounter, much less engage in hostilities with.

PERSONALITY

9f0c60927ecae65a1ab2730cfb57444e.jpg

Despite his early wealth, Kaul has lived a hard life both before and after his exodus from Nar Shadaa. He can not be called a good man per se, he has killed and can be ruthless when needed, but unlike his Tower Ganger compatriots, he takes no pride or joy in causing pain. He views purposeless violence as just that, purposeless. So long as the goal is being accomplished Kaul is happy. In this Kaul is shown to be a practical man, or as practical as a man in his situation can become.

Kaul can be reserved when meeting new people, unsure of who they are or what they want, and he has difficulties trusting. However, when he does become close with someone, however rare that may be, he tends to let his guard down and can be seen to enjoy social interaction. In that vein, he is also very loyal to those he considers friends and is willing to go above and beyond to protect them.

He does have a dark side, however. He has a raging temper which, although difficult to raise, has led to violence on a few occasions. Kaul also has a tendency to shift blame on others, rarely shouldering it all himself, a by product of his privileged upbringing. As well, Kaul tends to be distrustful of family, viewing a close friend more like family as opposed to blood. Despite this, at his core Kaul is a compassionate man. Although not a saint he refuses to kill innocents and avoids causing harm if he can and has, more often than not, found himself defending the helpless against his fellow Tower Gangers.

Ability wise, Kaul has a certain knack for combat. He is brutal when fighting, using his environment as a weapon to eliminate enemies when outnumbered. He is skilled in the use of blasters, generally pistols and small rifles and carbines, but much prefers to use a vibroblade or sword, having taken fencing lessons from a young age. As such he tends to keep one on his person when working. Kaul has always been somewhat strange in his ability to learn quickly, grasping concepts that would take quite a bit longer for the average individual to understand. This is due to Kaul's strong connection with the force which, despite being the reason he has managed to stay alive, Kaul has yet to discover.

Kaul's somewhat unique life has caused him to have a very jaded view of the factions of the galaxy:

Republic: Kaul saw the worst of the Republic in his father and, in many ways, he views the old Republic as an parallel to his own father's stagnancy and corruption. When it fell he felt little in the way of remorse for the old government and has not missed it since.

Sith Empire: Having been a Republican, if an unwilling one, Kaul has a natural distrust of the Sith. He considers some of their methods to be distasteful but cannot deny their meteoric rise to the forefront of the galactic stage. Kaul holds a very weak grudge against the Sith for the murder of his parents during the attack on Chandrila. Mostly, he is angry at the death of his mother who was, by all accounts, a kind, if vain person.

Jedi Order: Despite knowing of the Jedi, Kaul has never actually met one. He knows little about them besides the fact they are some form of religious order. Kaul, being non religious, has never deigned to look into them further due to this. He does have a slight respect for them as they bravely withstand the onslaught of the Sith but, ultimately, he sees them as a dying people.

Mandalorian Dominion: Kaul has had little interaction with the Mandalorians except for the various Mandalorian mercenaries and bounty hunters on Nar Shadaa. As a result he holds no real opinion of them.

My apologies in advance for posting this incomplete, I was unsure where WIP characters go. Regardless, Kaul is more or less done and will be completed very soon.

Hey there! Looks good, just a few things you might wanna add or fix. Oh, and WIP characters can go in the player workshops, to work on them, they're not meant to really be put here. But anyways, what planet is his clan from? What world in the Core Systems? You only told us that he was from the Core Systems. Did he have to move planets? And you never specified his age in the very beginning, i'd fix that, and for his gear, you might want to go to the Technology Profiles, Link here:
http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?forums/technology-profiles.598/
You might find some gear and maybe a ship that would suit your character, anyways, you don't have to take my advice, but i'm just trying to help. Looks good anyways, bye!

True. Though as long as the Personality section is filled out soon it should be alright.
At the end of the bio it mentions that the Tower Gangers are from Nar Shaddaa.
The only thing that I really noticed in the bio was the mention of the Mandalorians aiding the Sith on Chandrila. As far as I know the Mandalorian Dominion has never allied with the Sith or the Jedi.
@Prudence You blew up quite a lot of things on Chandrila, do you remember if Mandos were involved?

Mandos were never involved in Chandrila. They were there for Coruscant, but not Chan

My mistake then, I'll fix that. Also, Kaul is from Hosnian Prime in the core worlds. I'll double check but I believe I put that there.

Haha that was a mistake sort of, he doesn't have a theme quite yet. Anyways I am more or less done here. Credits I am unsure of but I'm gonna browse similar characters to see what the norm is. At this moment he has no ship, however, the first chapter of Kaul's story (more like a prologue in truth), which is more or less contained to Nar Shadaa will see him get one so I will update that as well.

Code can sometimes start duplicating. I would save what you have in a workshop thread and then try editing this one to get rid of the bugs. If it still doesn't want to cooperate after that you can copy and paste what you've written into the blank template again. If all else fails send our Backend Admin- Aberforth a PM.

I find that the best thing to do with code is to save it on Google Docs or Word, edit it there, and then replace the one in the thread with the edited one. The issue with duplication only happens when you use the Rich Text Editor, which the site defaults to when editing. So, before you copy the code back in, hit the button at the top right of the editor to switch it to the basic editor. That should solve your problems.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind moving forward. The page is done atm, although I may still edit a few things here and there, nothing major though. I will be starting my first roleplay soon!

Thanks! And I don't believe he needs to be approved as he is not a member of any factions. At the moment I am doing a (somewhat) solo role play that serves as a sort of prologue for Kaul but afterwards where he goes will really depend on where the role plays take him (although I am angling toward joining the Jedi).

Sounds cool, i know its a solo roleplay, but if he joins the Jedi, you'd need to change his backround a lot, like why he would join the Jedi, his reasonings, and a bit more. Anyways, i hope to see your character progress on the site. Good luck!

Well it would be a gradual thing. At this moment Kaul doesn't really believe in the force, or even know he's force sensitive. As for his background I think it should be fine as is. Kaul is not an evil man, he is simply a product of his environment. His story asks the question: can a person constantly thrown toward the dark all his life still find his way back to the light?

If the Jedi can forgive the things he's had to do to survive then he could be a powerful ally in time. If not then I doubt the sith will have any scruples :P
All jokes aside though Kaul has a ways to go before he even finds out he's force sensitive, if he does at all.

Might wanna tell people he's force sensitive (untrained) on his profile :)
