THE STORY...
Kato Vanguard. 20 years of age. Born to Jason and Olivia Vanguard on the planet Tatooine. Kato's father, was a drunk, druggie, and abuser. So people question Olivia's judgement when they found out the two were having a child together. Olivia is the complete opposite Jason. Olivia was very kindhearted, loving, caring, compassionate, loyal, trustworthy.

The birth brought change to the Vanguard family. Jason had to take up the role of father. Which he was struggling with the role of being a husband in the first place. Olivia feared her son, Kato, wouldn't see the light this world had to offer. One day Jason came home so drunk, he thought Olivia was a thief. He proceeded to beat her to a pulp. Rumors have it Olivia was beat so bad, her face was beyond recognition.

Jason didn't receive any prison time or even stand trial. He wasn't operating a vehicle under the influence so technically he didn't break any laws. He just had bad judgment due to his impairment. Olivia also didn't press charges. And somehow, Kato had survived the beating. Six months later Kato was born. Jason promised Olivia that he would make an effort to stay sober for her and Kato.

For a while the Vanguard family actually was a happy family. Jason's job had picked up and his was making more money and working most of the time. He didn't have the time to drink and his job didn't allow employees to drink out of work. Olivia had started her own business at home to be able to watch Kato grow and to be a true housewife. Things were looking good for the Vanguard family.

They were saving money up to move to Coruscant where Jason would receive a promotion if he and his family would make the move. However, almost nine years later a incident happened at Jason's work. The facility burnt to the ground because a employee was operating machinery under the influence. Jason lost his job. He became more and more irritable with his life. And with Olivia and Kato.

When Kato was at the age of ten years his father came home drunk. Kato was in his room asleep when he heard his dad come home. He then heard his mother scream. Kato ran to his door and cracked it a little. He was seeing his mother getting beat. In anger Kato flung open his door and ran towards his father screaming.

Jason hit Kato so hard he sent him into the wall. He then went back to beating Olivia. Who at this point, was motionless. Kato finally came to and scampered into the kitchen. He pulled out a small knife than ran back to the living room. Jason was still beating Olivia who finally lost the will to live. She was a lifeless corpse. Kato took the knife and stabbed his father in the back of both legs making him fall to his knees.

Kato then began to stab his father multiple times in the back. But with one swing he was able to knock Kato against the wall. This time there wasn't much impact. Kato got up and picked up the knife. He then ran at his dad as fast as he could. Jason who was still on his knees was so disoriented he didn't hear Kato running towards him.

The knife Kato was holding plunged into the back of his father's skull. Killing him instantly. Jason's lifeless body fell right beside Olivia's. Once the anger and adrenaline in Kato subsided he saw his lifeless mother. He started to shake her body. When he was getting no responses he began to cry. He started to panic. He didn't know what to do.

He ran to a neighboring home and banged on their door. They followed Kato back to his living room and discovered the gruesome scene that was before them. The father of the family went and got the authorities. Kato was put into a foster home on Tatooine as his immediate family was unreachable. At the age of thirteen Kato ran away.

He was starting to have problems in his life. He realized he killed his father who had killed his mother. Every time he thought about his mother anger and aggression would set in. With nowhere left to go Kato joined a local street gang. At the age of twelve Kato wasn't allowed to participate any gang related activity because of his age.

The gangs leader took Kato in as his son. At the age of fifteen, Kato started his training to becoming a thief and an assassin. His new father taught him the ways of the shadow. First Kato was taught how to sneak. One of the most important traits in thievery and being an assassin. His new father set up multiple training simulations for him. At the early levels it was just sneaking passed guards. At the intermediate levels it was sneaking passed guards into security areas.

At the hardest levels Kato had to sneak passed guards, security, cameras, etc. His new father could see he had what it took to become a natural thief. They continued with his training and Kato learned how to wield a blade. Mostly the small blade which was a thief's best friend. Kato had a hard time getting use to the form of combat.

But as the training progressed so did he. He became more aware of his surroundings, became more nibble and cunning. And his new father could see how quick his reflexes were. With unnatural like reflexes he was able to out maneuver people in combat.

When it came to unarmed combat though he didn't lose a step. With his combined speed and reflexes it made him harder to hit but easier to hit his target. At the age of sixteen his training had became full circle. He was lethal with a small blade and one of the notorious criminals on Tatooine. However trouble began to brew within in the gang.

Kato's new father saw what a threat he had became to the gang. He could easily take out his new father if he put his mind to it. And his new father became aware of that. When Kato was seventeen his new father tried to take his life. However, somehow Kato was able to foresee this event. Therefore he was able to be ready and counter the trap.

Kato killed his new father along with his two sons. He didn't know how he was able to foresee the future for those brief seconds before they actually stormed the place. But it helped him survive. He didn't take the hint he was Force sensitive. Six months later he had another encounter with the Force.

He was gambling in a local cantina. Playing a simple dice game. He was down on his luck and owed the man alot of money. He kept stockpiling his debt on the next game. Soon enough he owed the man 500 credits. The man wanted to quit but Kato convinced him he would have to pay him double the credits if he lost the next game.

The game started off good for Kato. The first and second die landed in his favor. However the third one wasn't going to go his way. Not until he used his mind to make the dice land the way he needed it to land. When the dice landed the way he wanted it to, he was in shock. He couldn't believe his eyes.

Neither could the man he was playing against. The man was irate and accused Kato of cheating. The man didn't have any proof as their were many witnesses but that didn't stop him from pulling out his blaster. Luckily enough the man struggled with getting his blaster out and Kato was able to make a getaway.

This is when Kato became aware that he was somewhat Force sensitive. He started to test his abilities. All he could do was slightly move stuff with his mind. But this was enough evidence for him. He knew he had to be trained in the ways of the Jedi.

So he set out on an adventure. He took a shuttle ride to Coruscant and received his wish of having a council before the Jedi. Once the Jedi had completed their tests they had no doubt the man before them was Force sensitive. However his age was a problem. When one is gifted in the ways of the force they usually start training when they are a mere five or six years old. Younglings as they are called.

However Kato was pushing eighteen years of age and the Jedi were contemplating on whether or not it would be wise to try and train him. After the council came to an agreement they decided to push on with his training. However as the training progressed the Jedi came face to face with Kato's true character. He was not who he said he was.

With the anger and emotion built up in him he clouded himself with every action he made. He failed every test the Jedi issued him. In anger he tried to attack a fellow Padawan, but was quickly subdued by a Jedi. He was banned from Coruscant by the Jedi. If he returned, the Jedi would seek punishment for his actions on the Order.

At the age of twenty Kato was alone, broke, and hopeless. He was on Dantooine when he learned of Korriban. The home of the Sith. He thought of this as an opportunity to actually get trained in the ways of the Force and to exact revenge on the Jedi. He was able to steal a shuttle and made his journey to Korriban. This is where we join young Kato.

I do like this character, two notes though, when you saw 'hand to hand' is there a specific fighting style you think of? Or is it just brute strength street fighting? Secondly, and I'm not sure how this flies in general but you make the statement that people thought Kato's mother was 'the second coming of Christ himself.' While yea, this is a common descriptive term, this is Star Wars where Christ didn't exist. I don't think it's a big deal if you leave it, just popping that up there in case it was just a description that came to your mind that you thought little of.

There wasn't a specific fighting style I could think of. Thinking of Star Wars, I don't know what fighting styles come to mind. XD And I changed the Christ part. Just didn't fit after second though.
