Mith'arn'nuruodo, newly arrived on Csilla from his post out in the far reaches of the Ascendancy, sat calmly as a shuttle took him groundside from his ship in orbit. His red eyes stared calmly out the viewport in the passenger cabin, scanning over Csilla. It was the first time he'd been here in over twenty years, since he graduated from the Academy. Nothing much had changed.
Finally, I can prove where I belong in history. he thought.

There was a subtle bump as the shuttle entered the atmosphere and streaked toward the capital Csaplar and into the city itself. Mith'arn'nuruodo silently stood as the shuttle came to a halt eyes unblinking. As the ramp descended, he briskly strode down it, shoulders high, hands clapsed behind his back. At the end of the ramp, stood a small Chiss female. She carried a datapad and looked as if she was an aide of some sort. She was remarkably beautiful.

"Sir, the Head Admiral expects you in the combat simulator immidiently...sir." The aide sounded intimidated as she realised what a physically imposing figure Mith'arn'nuruodo was despite being an officer and over forty years old.

"Very well. I will go there at once." With that, he left the hanger in the same manner he entered it. Chest high, back straight, hands clasped behind his back. Those red eyes never blinked. Briskly he strode through the heated underground halls until eventually reaching the combat simulator, where the Head Admiral was awaiting him.

"Mith'arn'nuruodo reporting, Head Admiral. Awaiting your orders!" He spoke in the well practiced voice of an officer. He patiently awaited orders from his superior. Those red eyes still never blinking.

"Yes, good morning Mith'arn'nuruodo- Tharnn, if I'm not mistaken? As you've clearly been briefed, I am Head Admiral Malas Prewett, and I will be working with you to complete your Ascendacy Navy Testing." The Head Admiral tapped a few keys on his console and the holoprojector came alive.

"As you've also been briefed, we will be using the Simulator. Simply say your commands aloud and they will be executed realistically. When you issue your commands, you must thoroughly explain your motives as I am much more interested in them than the results."

Again, he tapped a few keys.

"I apologize for my brevity, but unfortunately they've triple-booked me. We'll run a simple deployment exercise. Please review your console for your ships."

Mith'arn'nuruodo's console came alive, giving a readout of eight ships ((review wookiepedia for details on the ships)):

2 CR-90 corvettes
4 Skipray Blastboats
2 Marauder corvettes

"This is an unusual line with a specific goal- escorting the Marauders and their precious diamond boron missile launchers. The scenario: you have exited hyperspace to navigate through a nebula and rendezvous with Ascendancy forces grouping there. Intelligence reports that Sith starfighters have been harassing Chiss lines such as these, but no forces can be allocated for your escort. You have no starfighters, and will have no chance of backup. Please, deploy using the map on your screen."

The blue is regular nebula gas and merely prohibits sensors. Orange is corrosive gas (and will result in damage to your ship) while red is explosive gas.

The white arrow indicates the direction you're facing. Good luck!

Tharnn took in the tactical situation wuickly and effectivley. His mind processed the information in an instant, thinking of two possible formations for this convoy. The standard convoy line, which would be expected, or something more unothodox.

"I want one the two Marauders in the center of this formation, one slightly below and behind the other. The two CR90's are to take up position in the sapce between the Marauders one ahead of them, one behind. Skipray blast boats are too stay one on top of the other, pairs on each side of the main line besied the Marauders."

The formation seemed sound. The CR90's could handle any incoming fire from starfighters and could cover the space between and below the Marauders. The Skiprays could respond swiftly to any enemy incursion.

"Marauders are to divert all nonessential power other than comms, life support, sensors, engines and weapons to shields. I want them making it through."

Within a matter of seconds, the simulator (and its real-life operators) had input the commands, and a realistic model of the formation began to move through the nebula. Sensor readings of empty space pinged back to the scanning ships- a clear field.

"Line Captain," the simulator responded with the temporary rank, "We are approaching Nav Beacon A-57, entering the ring of heightened attacks." The formation began moving along a slight curve in the path, avoiding a thick pocket of explosive gasses.

"Skipray Blue-Four to the helm. We've got a visual disturbance in the rear blue gasses. Looks like an ion efflux!"

Focused sensors on the area showed nothing, although Skipray Blue-Four moved to close the distance. A torrent of green laserfire burst from the nebula, streaking across the gap and crushing the unsuspecting Skipray's cockpit.

Within seconds, the nebula's corridor was under attack- a squadron of TIE Defenders leaping towards the Marauders like star-flies towards space-honey. While their shields are holding, not much energy was diverted towards their defense, and would soon falter.

OOC:

There's really only three main sources to draw energy from- weapons, shields, and movement. You could draw power from non essential systems, but to augment shields it's almost pointless. If you want to defend your ships by pumping shields, you'll need to take a more drastic trade off.

The updated map is below.

The ships designated M are your Marauders, the C your Corvettes, and the S your Skiprays. S4 is destroyed, hence the red circle. Yellow circles will denote damage. The D# are enemy starfighter pairs.

Tharnn looked at the scrren never blinking. He took the information in with a few seconds. The skiprays would have to fly cover for the marauders while the corvettes handle the fighters. One would be enough to destroy these fighters.

Corvette Two full power to weapons annihalte those fighters. Perform a holding action, do not let those fighters reach the marauders. Stay between them and the enemy at all times, come along side Marauder Two. Marauders full ahead to the Nav Beacon A-57. Corvette One watch out for additional contacts, protect those Marauders! Remaining skiprays, mop any thing that gets through the first line of defense.

Tharnn kept an eye on that pocket of explosive gasses. It could come in handy, but he didn't know how large the actual explosion could be. HE didn't want to risk losing his ships too.

(OOC: Would the pocket of explosive gas cover only the indicated area or a much larger area of effect?)

((OOC: It's explosive gas, so as it ignited the remaining gas would fling outwards. It's likely to cover the entire corridor.))

Shots were fired as the Marauders carefully moved forward, their Corvette defender moving to create an anti-starfighter screen. Blastboats connected with Defender, and the surprise Imperial attack was caught off guard by the wild Chiss laser cannons, but the surprise would not last for long.

TIE Defenders swarmed up along the gas barrier, launching a series of missiles all targeting the first Marauder craft. They are set to impact next turn.

((OOC: Sorry for the brevity, not up to par today.))

"Corvette One focus your fire on those missiles. All skiprays defensive screen around the Marauders. Corvette Two focus on the undamged starfighters and those missiles as well, form up along side the Marauders. Marauders divert full power to shields."

Tharnn remained calm. No stress in his voice could be heard, no anxious tones. He was completley at peace in these battle situations. His eyes never came off the battle screen, never blinked.

Anti-starfighter screens rerouted from the Corvette One to focus on the incoming missile barrage- the lack of point defense laser systems a sore subject with the crewmembers of Marauder One. White knuckles gripped tight on consoles as they waited impact in five... four... three... two... one... No impact. The impromptu defensive screen seemed to have thinned the missile wall enough for shields to cause premature detonations.

Unfortunately, the Imperial's stunt succeeded in distracting starfighter defense. Within a matter of seconds, starfighters were swarming around Marauder One, pursued by the slower Skiprays- due to their spread out status, the gunboats couldn't form a proper defensive screen and another Skipray was lost in the attack.

Marauder One was wounded- shields estimated at 37%. Another round and she would be destroyed.
