COMPOSITION AND APPEARANCE: The Kel Dor can be easily distingished from other alien races by the strange breathing apparatus' they wear on planets different than their own. Due to the poisonous nature oxygen has on Kel Dor physiology, they are required to wear rebreathers when off world as well as a pair of metal goggles to protect their eye fluids from evaporating. Jyr'ast is no different. In a way, he appears no different from his fellow Kel Dor with a few exceptions, the most obvious being his Jedi robes. Unlike the more active members of the Jedi Lord's army, Jyr'ast's robes are long and flowing, indicating his primary status as an archivist and diplomat working at the Jedi Temple on Tython. His outer cloak is of a dark brown shade, while the traditional robes he wears beneath are a light cream color, bound at his feet by adaptable leather boots. Like other members of his species, Jyr'ast's skin is marked by various blemishes , and is of a rough, leathery composition when touched. He too wears his rebreather and goggles at all times, considering his dreams of returning to Dorin have, wth the revival of the Jedi Order's eternal war with the Sith, been more or less dashed. Standing at 6'3, his height is the only thing that one could consider "imposing" about him. Due to his work being primarily focused on the study of the Force, the renewal of the archives and work as a negotiator and peacekeeper, he's found less and less use for brute strength since his time in the Jedi Order. As a result, he appears less of a physical threat. He prefers it this way; should the need arise for him to lend his blade to a fight (which, despite his own interpretations of the Jedi Code, he knows he will some day) it will allow his opponents to underestimate him.

PERSONALITY AND SOCIAL COMPORTMENT: The Kel Dor are said to be naturally wise. As a scholar of Jedi history and ardant supporter of the Jedi Code, Jyr'ast's fundamentalism once put him at odds with the goals of the Jedi Army at the onset of its next war with the Sith. He is, in many ways, a model Jedi. Or at least he would like to be. An advocate of a fundamentalist reading of the Jedi Code, Jyr'ast strives for serenity in the Force. He recognizes that there are certain applications of the Force that shouldn't be practiced, and that the Force should only be used in ways that benefit the physical world; meaning not for conquest or attack. However, he also understands that a total fear of the dark side, or the failure to learn about what it offers only serves to make the Jedi blind. He respects the Nine Tenents, but strongly opposed the decision to establish what would eventually become the 'Jedi Army' upon his ascention to the rank of Jedi Knight. He'd joined the Order to be a peacemaker, a guardian for those who could not protect themselves. He feared the Jedi becoming exactly what they had fought so hard against; conquerers. That began to change when the Sith conquered Coruscant, and he was permanently transformed when Tython was destroyed. For the past five years he had spent his time chiding the Jedi who put their faith in a man who called himself a Lord, not a Jedi. He felt the militarization was unnecessary. However, seated in his chambers, feeling the thousands of Jedi cry out to him as their voices were silenced shook him to his core. A zealous Jedi to this very day, Jyr'ast's world view was irreperably changed when the Empire began taking hold of the Galaxy. Once a reluctant member of the Army, he now participates willingly, though conflicted. His worldivew has shifted; destroying the Sith empire was now a holy mission to rid the galaxy of the blasphemers once and for all, and to make sure that those who gave their lives for the Jedi did not leave in vain.

STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES: Jyr'ast's primary, pliable skills are his intelligence, cordiality and skill in the Force. Trained as a healer and practitioner of the Force on Tython, his experience resides primarily in the fields of diplomacy, healing, and management of the Jedi Archives. A diplomat and peacekeeper first, he's been trained to read and communicate in many of the primary languages of trade throughout the galaxy, including Huttese, Shyriiwook, Droidspeak, Jawaese and Mando'a. He's also trained himself to understand the ancient Sith language for the purpose of attempting to negotiate with his enemies. Preferring diplomacy to the sword whenever necessary, as a Padawan Jyr'ast was trained as a Consular with the intention of becoming more of a wise Jedi Master than a brash, technically skilled Guardian or Sentinel. He's also developed a habit of recording extensive amounts of history on racks-worth of datapads with the intention that he will one day donate his findings to the Archive on Tython. After Tython's destruction, knowing his current skills would not suit him in the war against the Sith, he began pouring all of his studies into that of lightsaber combat. Wielding a saberstaff, he is a very proficient fighter when he needs to be, but still feels the pull toward diplomacy over brash action. Even though he is skilled with the Force and his blade, he is still physically weaker than most and is vulnerable to hand to hand combat. He also generally uses his intelligence and ability to read opponents to make his fighting seem more impressive than it really is; he's a practical, pragmatic duelist when it comes right down to it. Those flaws make it difficult to get around him, but they can also be easily exploited if you know what to look for. Despite his general wisdom regarding the Force and the teachings of the Jedi, he's ignorant on the finer points of bladed combat. He's very good at thinking in abstracts; this makes him an above average tactician and diplomat, but he generally finds trouble when asked to actually command forces on the ground. After an incident in his youth on Dorin, Jyr'ast is partially blind. Though he can see, he sometimes relies on the Force to guide his vision, something he learned from his Master who was Miralukan.

LIGHTSABER COMPOSITION & FIGHTING STYLE: Jyr'ast wields a saberstaff imbued with bright green kyber crystals. The hilt itself is a basic, classical design crafted out of metallic alloy so it can't be easily destroyed in combat. Despite his noted apprehension toward using the lightsaber, he eventually settled on learning to fight with the lightsaber purely because he felt it was the only challenge worthy of his intellect. Though not physically strong, he is incredibly agile; capable of using the multiple blades to his advantage in combat. While not the most exciting swordsman, he is more than capable with his weapon, using his intelligence and various applications of the Force to enhance his combat style.

INVENTORY: Traditional Jedi Robes, Lightsaber, Commlink, multiple datapads: some filled with information, some empty, a small grapple launcher, various survival tools.

KNOWN LANGUAGES: Galactic Basic, Huttese, Shyriiwook, Droidspeak, Jawaese, Mando'a, Sith.

SUBJECT TITLE UNCHANGED.

It's been recommended to me by my former Master, the Miralukan Ewon Uetehk, that my life experiences prior to joining the venerated ranks of the Jedi Order could be of use to researchers in the distant future. With the lull in the war—and my own growing apathy toward the actions of this 'Jedi army'—I felt I would take him up on the offer as a means of meditation. It is the eighth of the Nine Tenents; that a Jedi of faith must look to both the future and the past for guidance. What the Padawans of future centuries will be able to learn from me, I'm uncertain. But I will endevour to provide as much as I can.

I am Jyr'ast-Yuzil, a Jedi Knight and Consular. Fourty four years prior to the one in which I record these words, I was born on the planet Dorin in the Expansion Region. The home of the enigmatic Kel Dor race, Dorin is a naturally hostile world for outsiders, and even for natives. Space travel in the Dorin system is a risky endevour; two black holes limited the amount of ships that could enter the atmosphere at any given time. When I was young, my mother would tell me ghost stories of the witty, cocky smugglers who would try to subvert Dorin's strict regulations against illegal trade by circumnavigating the world in orbit, only to be pulled into the event horizon never to be heard from again. The static image of one ship still lingers in the anomoly closest to Dorin's orbit—a sideffect of the immense power of the black hole to bend time and space—it's likely that the pilot is long dead, but no one in the government would dare send a scout to make sure for fear that they would either lose more men or clutter up space. Even after the initial trials have been passed, travelers still have to deal with the deadly atmosphere. Unlike other worlds that bare sentient life, Dorin's atmosphere is a combination between helium and a unique gas that visitors merely call 'Dorin gas' for the trouble. We Kel Dor are free to roam the surface without our masks, but the others are not so lucky.

Traders will often tell stories of the Kel Dors and their simultaneous admiration of hospitality and swift justice. Crime is uncommon on the surface because every man and woman is authorized to kill criminals on sight; be they murderers or petty theives. These were the lessons my father taught me. Unlike the Mandalorians, the Kel Dors do not revel in bloodshed. Any blood of our own kind spilled is a pity, and never something to be taken lightly. But just as important as our sense of kinship is our sense of honor, and respect for law and order. I keenly recall one evening when my father returned from the streets surrounding our home with blood on his clothes. He looked pained; like he'd taken a breath of oxygen. My mother tried her best to shield my eyes so I couldn't see the body in the street, but it was too late. I learned later, just before I was sent to learn from the Baran Do, that the boy stole rations from the storefront across the street for his mother. My parents didn't pity him, but I did. This, I think, was the beginning of my journey toward the Jedi. But I have gotten ahead of myself.

Jyr'ast-Yuzil. My parents were researchers, and well connected ones. But even they could not hide their fear when the Baran Do gave me this name. The Kel Dor fear names that do not stop after the first syllable. The common thought was that, within one year of my birth, the wind-spirits of Dorin would sweep me away so I could be a child of the air, living in purgatory for eternity. Thus my troubles began. I never had many friends because of this superstition; of course I managed to hold on to two, but their presences always felt distant to me. They accompanied me to class, deciding to learn about the world with me under the tutelage of my parents. They both taught regularly, but having familial access allowed me knowledge that most others would have to learn years in advance. It was around this time that my sensitivity to the Force was discovered. In my sleep I'd accidentally levitated a few knick-knacks throughout our home. Perhaps one of the more trivial ways to discover ones connection to the Force, I'm well aware, but such is the way of history; sometimes, its just a series of trivial events. After my parents learned of my connection to the Force they pulled a few strings and sent me to the Baran Do. The Baran Do Sages are an ancient order of force-sensitive Kel Dors that serve as our first line of defense against interstellar conflicts or weather catastrophes. Among the more powerful antique factions on Dorin, the Baran Do look to train exceptional youth in the ways of the Force if they feel as though they can one day dutifully serve Dorin. I was among the few children my age that were granted the privilege. With hindsight, this seemed to be the turning point.

After one month with the Baran Do, I was stricken with temporary blindness. What caused this, I can't be quite sure. I believe it was caused by a lesson on the world beyond Dorin; mild exposure to oxygen or carbon dioxide was common among the Sages to teach the young ones what awaited them outside the atmosphere, but also for physiology lessons. Naturally, my parents were panicked. The Baran Do still had their mystique, and could just as easily dismiss their claims of malpractice. And, despite what my father would suggest to me, they would never bring the sword to a member of the Baran Do. As a substitute for my now almost complete lack of sight, my training in the Force began early. The first lesson; sense. I was taught something I'd always assumed, but never practiced. The Force allows those who can commune with it to surpass the limitations of their physical selves. Despite my blindness, my sight remained, though not in the same detail. At this point I had only learned three things from the Baran Do. I was likely several years away from officially joining their Order, but the Living Force had other ideas about my fate. Despite the difficulties traders have coming to Dorin, there are several ships that make repeat journies. Many of these are traders who belong to the Republic, delivering various rations. Dorin's atmosphere prohibits growing any kind of bountiful food, so many of our supplies were provided by the lush worlds of the Mid Rim. The other was a once-yearly voyage of Jedi. Dorin is among a long list of worlds that are known to produce force-sensitive students, and the Jedi had seemed to grow fond of it during my lifetime. One afternoon, during one of my off-days, that ship landed. After the cargo door opened, a strange figure stepped out. His robes blew in the wind. Unlike the rest of us, he wore a rebreather that covered most of his face; a decorative blindfold hid the rest. After evaluating a few children around the hall, he stopped and turned to me. My young mind couldn't make out his intentions at the time, neither could my damaged eyes comprehend his odd way of dress, but he stopped beside me and sat down.

This was the first time I'd ever seen a Miralukan. This one, Ewon Uetehk, asked me why I wore goggles over my eyes. I told him what had happened, and he explained his own situation. The Miraluka are born without eyes, and are trained from birth to use the Force to see. That was the essential difference between the two of us; my sight would eventually return. It wasn't long before he was negotiating with my parents to take me back with him to learn the Force from a proper teacher. This, of course, offended them; how dare this outsider suggest the Baran Do didn't know what they were talking about. But the Jedi are persuasive, and Master Ewon offered far more than a life sitting in a palace predicting the weather. My parents relented, and after a quiet goodbye, the Miralukan stole me away from Dorin and to the pastoral world of Tython. This was the first time I'd ever worn the metal mask Kel Dors are most known for outside of the Dorin system. During my years as an Initiate for the Jedi Order, I found the mask intrusive and difficult to adapt to. Especially during my first lessons on handling a lightsaber. I feared that I would accidentally cut my mask open and kill myself, but the Guardians at the temple kept me safe. But I found the more interesting lessons in the archives, and on the Force. I took to these studies naturally. My teachers praised my intelligence, sensing that I would be trained a Consular rather than a Sentinel or a Guardian, both of which focused on the use of the lightsaber. I will say now that I am not imcompetent with the blade, I simply prefer not to use it unless it is absolutely necessary, as is the Jedi Code. I can't say the same for some of my bretheren.

When I was of age, Master Ewon took me as his Padawan. The Miralukans are pre-disposed to the study of the Force, and thus his nature was similar to mine. He taught me almost everything he knew, mostly about the power of healing. The addage is ages old; "bacta can heal the body, but the Force can heal the soul." Because these lessons necessitated the study of alien physiology, and my other lessons on diplomacy required the learning of multiple languages, much of my time as a Padawan was spent in the Archives. As Padawans are want to do, I accompanied Master Ewon on several missions during my time as a Padawan. Most of them were diplomatic disputes, some required I use my lightsaber to defend the defenceless, but I came out alive. All in all, my training was unremarkable. After being Knighted, I spent much of my time before the resurgance of the Sith travelling the galaxy as a diplomat and researcher for the Jedi Order. I looked into new worlds, archived their species and languages, and studied at almost all hours the applications of the Force as a means to transcendence. As the number on this message will suggest, I have been recording my findings for several years with the idea that they will one day be delivered to the Jedi Archives on Tython. My missions were fruitful until whispers from the border worlds, specifically Mandalore, suggested something none in the Jedi Order would've ever suspected; the Sith had returned. After several displays of terrorism and brute strength, many Jedi had decided that was enough. Thus, the appointment of the Jedi Lord. The war had begun. As those who may have listened to my previous recordings would know, I am a foremost an agent of the Force, and secondly a keeper of the peace. The Jedi, unlike the Sith, are not a militant organization. But in the face of mass opposition, the Jedi Council allowed one concession; a Jedi Army, advised by them, but controlled by the Jedi Lord. I realized, about a month into the fighting, that they would do this regardless of how I felt. So I lent my services to the cause, acting as an agent of peace in a galaxy at war. I will elaborate more on the geneisis of the fighting and the early days of the war in my next report."

THE FALL OF THE OLD REPUBLIC.

"When the war began, there were many of us who, for some reason or another, did not take the threat seriously. I am ashamed to say that I was one of them. When the first Jedi Lord, Bao Zo arose and split his men away from the Jedi Council, I thought him no better than the Dark Lords of the Sith that he saught to defeat. I saw his Jedi Army nothing more than vulnerable fools; with the right experiences and the right pressure, they could all be pushed to the dark side. I was wrong, and I pay for that every day.

The collapse of the Old Republic came hand in hand with the rise of Darth Malon, the second Sith Emperor. Before that came the fall of Coruscant, the first of the Empire's significant victories. Months after taking the city-planet for themselves and securing their power in the Core worlds, the Sith did something few thought possible; they erased a planet from existence. Using a crystal taken from one of the ancient Jedi caves and a horrific ritual to summon as much Dark energy as possible, the Empire destroyed the holy planet of Tython with one, simple stroke. The Jedi were left reeling, and around them, the Old Republic slowly fell to ruin.

We were left in the wastes of the Republic, devestated. The Sith Empire expanded rapidly, as did the newly formed Mandalorian Dominion. The dark times have fallen upon us all. I did not believe in the Army when I was younger. I refuse to make that mistake again. Hopefully when I come to make my next report, I will have more pleasant news."

Awesome character! The only thing I'd like to note is that the Jedi Order and the Jedi Army under the direction of the Lord are technically two separate entities - I have some updates coming to better make this distinction. If Jyr'ast is in the Army, then it would definitely make sense for him to be an advisor/archivist for them instead of a warrior.

Thanks! I figured; I tried to figure out a way where he could be both in the Jedi Lord's army but still have a tangible reason to be against it. He'll still fight if necessary, but most of the work will be done doing diplomat/temple things.
