Jedi Knight idea; Rhoub el-Ra

Just some ideas for traits for a Jedi Knight I may play in the next timeline. I've always wanted to play a knight but never got past the padawan stage, haha.

Anyway, the thought of a jedi who tortures himself to incite discipline and keep himself from the Dark Side is such a wonderful contradiction that I kind of want to run with it. And I do like playing troubled characters.


Anyway, these are random very rough thouggts about him so excuse repetitions and badly worded sentences. Just a copy and paste job from my notepad. :D

Rhoub el-Ra

Young but wise, full faith in the council, quiet, strict and disciplined. Loner, uses coldness to keep others at an arm's length as he's afraid of emotional attachments. Father was Sith, killed mother in anger. Whenever Rhoub feels the dark side he hurts himself as the pain helps shut it out, using a leather bracelet strapped on his wrist, with sharp needles on the inside that digs into his wrist. Follows a strict disciplinary regimen of workouts, meditation, hard work and lightsaber training. Discipline his foremost character trait - he allows himself no pleasures, whether it is good food, alcohol, love, sex or joy. Very Spartan. Uses a long hilted, turqoise lightsaber. Likes to meditate in the wild by himself around the Jedi temple, away from his fellow knights. Reckless and aggressive in battle, using his aggressiveness, though one not fuelled by anger, to keep the other person on their toes. Self-sacrificing to protect his fellow jedi. His greatest fear is to cross over to the dark side. Suppresses emotions and trauma with pain, never touching on those feelings, ever. One step away from a broken psyche. Always a volunteer for dangerous missions, and blindly loyal to the Jedi Council.

I think Rhoub sounds like a solid character. I just have one comment. One, I don't think such a disciplined Jedi would adopt a fighting style that is reckless. That just seems paradoxical to me. Especially if he suppresses his emotions and literally harms himself whenever he feels the pull of the Dark Side. Actually, on that point, self-harm doesn't seem like a good way to keep the Dark Side at bay.

Anyway, I like the idea. :) Just a question, but why is he wise? Wisdom is earned, after all.

Well, I think the fighting style is one of his paradoxes. Kind of like the self-harm. Pain leads to fear, etc., but in his case, the pain helps remove all the noise and let him focus, which helps steer him away from the Dark Side and the more base emotions he feels. XD

As for the wisdom, well, he's not a Yoda by any means, but he's wise beyond his age, understands the Force and usually has insight to offer. At least that's the general idea, though I'll probably substitute the word "wise" for some more suitable adjectives when I write up a proper character sheet. :D

Why hello there!

I have to say that I'm rather interested in maybe getting my Jedi-boy to meet up with yours! My own is just coming off a "tempted by the Dark Side" kind of event and is going to be returning to the Temple to try and better control it. Maybe they should meet and discuss such temptations and trials? Mine is looking for ways to keep from straying from the path and yours would look like he has an answer for him!

If not interested in that then at least some sparring or something since they both seem to be pressing the attack when it comes to battle - could be fun to see their style of offensive clash.

But either way - guy sounds cool! Always nice to see someone with some zealotry!
