Name:
Jedha
Coordinates:
I-10
Hyperlane:
N/A
Climate:
Cold/Temperate
Terrain:
Deserts, natural mesas
Rotation:
24 hours. On Jedha, a "day" begins and ends at sunset, rather than at midnight. Months are either 29 or 30 days long, and years vary from 12 to 13 months.
Inhabitants:
Humans (87%), Other (13%)
Resources:
Kyber Crystals
Tourist Attractions
Government:
Oligarchy
Culture:
An increase in tourism has resulted in an increase in the population as a whole, and a melting pot of beliefs and cultures, most of which revolve around the Force.
Technology:
Galactic Standard
Satellites:
None
History:
The ancient world of Jedha was home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force, and is considered a spiritual home for the Jedi, and the Temple of the Whills–a great temple held sacred by those who follow the teachings of the Force. The spiritual significance of Jedha led the moon to become a world of worship for those who believed in the Force, and a holy site for pilgrims who sought spiritual guidance. With the discovery that the planet holds a large quantity of Kyber Crystals, the Jedi use Jedha as a backup resource for lightsaber construction.
Major Cities:
Holy City - Serving as the capital of Jedha, the Holy City is an ancient city located on the cold, desert Inner Rim moon of Jedha. Standing atop a rocky mesa, the city is surrounded by a large wall and contained various temples and adorned buildings. The most notable structure in the Holy City was the ancient Temple of the Whills—a great temple protruding high above the city wall that was held sacred by those who followed the teachings of the Force. Considered a holy site for followers of the mystical energy field known as the Force, the the city's streets are filled with priests, scholars, and holy men and women, many of them pilgrims.
Jarmuseel - A sprawling spaceport located near the Holy City on Jedha. Though not the capital city, it is the largest settlement on the planet and acts the major center of commerce. Contains the headquarters of many tourist and import/export companies.
Intent:
To have a place where people can roleplay characters with diverse views of the Force on a planet that encourages diverse views and beliefs. Also, to have a holy place for people to roleplay religious pilgrimages and spiritual awakenings.

Maybe we should wait for Rogue One to come out before writing up a planet profile? I'm sure we'll get a ton of info on the planet when the Essential Guide comes out.

I've already been accepted, so I'll have my character call for a bill/vote to anex Jedha into the Republic.

Don't think that's how the senate works. Might wanna check up with the Republic FLs about that.

This. Plus, you should hold off on this profile until we know more about what Canon says about the planet.

There've been attempts planned to do similar in the past, actually, although the bill would be supported by diplomatic "missions" (technically actual missions though, yeah) in the area to gain the territory

that and what I remember from discussions in leadship skype chat, we were trying to work out what would happen if a planet voluntarily seceded from one group and tried to join the other/if a neutral planet were to suddenly gain an IC-leader who would try and join one side or the other and as I remember we ended up sorta-deciding on the first idea that it would just jumpstart a main battle for the planet without needing missions done (since no government in this war would willingly let its planets leave it like that)

dunno if we specifically came up with anything for situations like this though, aside from what the republic itself was planning on doing =P

Moving this into the unapproved section until the movie comes out. I am not sure if someone moved this here, but I want to remind you to post planets there, not in the approved section. Thank you

Jedha is in grid square I-10, which is outside of Republic space.
It is? @Arclight, could I have a source? It's for el map. Also, if you know the cords of this you know the cords of the other planets in the film?

It's around H-10 or H-11 according to the Visual Encyclopedia and my own estimations given the map provided.

And then what about the other planets? Like Skariff? Sharif? Scariph? That one.

@Caleb Richardson Do you have plans to revamp this submission now that Rogue One is out? If not, I would like to submit a "planet" profile for Jedha, as I have a few ideas for how it should look at this period in Star Wars history. Also, one of my characters is native to Jedha. Up to you, but I wanted to be polite and ask before I just up and submitted one.

@Malon You can post one, but wait til this one is archived. And feel free to use some of my descriptions, especially Jarmuseel. Also, @Breeso, would you please archive this.

Will do, especially for Jarmuseel. I don't know if you based Jarmuseel off of the one on Star Wars Fanon, but I created that city on the Fanon Wiki :) Easily accommodated.

Cool. I just love how Jedha represents different holy cities. I'm extremely glad to have been able to visit Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and I am currently preparing for my pilgrimage to Mecca.
