Jak Rau

Personality

Jak Rau is a roguish individual, an unusual cunning and crafty mandalorian, it is almost as if he's got a touch of Hod Ha'Ran in him. He often has a Devil-May-Care attitude towards life, enjoying living day to day, and often enjoys the simple pleasures in life, knowing to appreciate the little things. Life is too short not to smile and laugh at, and as he says, "Nothing in the Canon's says I can't see the bright side of things." However, Jak is still a mandalorian, and a mandalorian knows how to adhere to the canons of honor. Jak values his family, and views all mandalorians as siblings in one big, giant, dysfunctional family.

Siblings fight, siblings can even hate each others guts, but when push comes to shove, family comes first. Jak is the kind of person who could be shooting at you one moment, and fighting to the death for you the next. Jon knows their family is broken, the clans wanting to kill one another. But he knows that until someone steps up to be the Mandalore, that's just how things are gonna be, so he might as well work hard to keep his family safe, his homestead safe, and keep Clan Rau well funded however he can, even if he has to break a few laws, and fingers, to do it.

Backstory

Jak Rau, aged 21 at the moment and standing at a cool 5'10, was a young man when he went out on his first mission with his father. The boy was raised by a bounty hunter, Calamita, and raider, Jon, turned couple, and they made sure he and his two siblings, a brother, Thay, and sister, Ann, knew to fight, and to survive. They owned a small homestead, on the outer edges of Rau Valley, and enjoyed the life of both Farmer and Rancher, growing up as actual Nerf Herders and being damn proud of it to. It was at the age of 12 that Jak Rau took his first life, the Nerf's getting spooked when a Dar Manda tried their hand at Cattle Rustling. Jak took up his fathers gun, and before he knew it, shot the man clean in the chest, at a near point blank range. Jak was a natural with a gun, almost supernaturally so, and so it was that he came to get his first set of armor, and join him in this years raid.

13 years old and helping to raid the outer rim was enough to put hair on anyone's chest. Jak however, had an odd knack of never seeming scared. He couldn't help it, his first instinct when afraid was to crack a joke and laugh at it. He earned a nickname, Laughin Jak, and he wore it as a badge of honor. During a fight though, Jak was often one of the more tenacious fighters, often willing to deal with problems hands on, even forsaking guns to settle things with fists. As far as Jak was concerned, raiding the outer rim and tending to the herds was the good life. His mother and father would alternate who would go raiding, while the others stayed to watch the Homestead. Times were sometimes lean, sometimes pleantiful, but they always payed their share to the clan at large, beliving it'd make a better place for them all.

Times got leaner however, and harder. Crops didn't grow well for a few summers straight, and a new disease took a large chunk of their Nerf Herd with it. Raiding was also getting tougher and tougher, and Jak struggled to figure out a way to make a better living. His brother Thay suggested they maybe look into some other fields, particularly spice, but Jon was quick to refuse, citing that the spice trade was practically against the canons themselves. Jak figured all they could do was keep moving along, and hope that they'd weather it out. They'd done it before, they could do it again. However, things went south when one day, Jon and Calamita went out to scout out a new home for the family, new lands to make a living on, and never returned. They had to assume the worst, and Jak wasn't prepared to just sit down and do nothing. Thay stayed behind with Ann, and Jak went to try and retract their parents steps.

He found nothing, and when he returned, found the Homestead burning down, and Ann dead on the ground. There was a recording from Thay, a confession, and an apology. Thay had fallen in with some Spice Dealers, and had gotten hooked on the stuff himself. He'd planned to offer Him and Ann a slice of the drug money, but he just needed them to sell a few things to get the credits up and running. It wasn't hard for Jak to figure out what had happened. Ann hadn't taken kindly to Thays offer, and the two fought, him killing her before running off. Jak was taken in by the Ranch Family next door for a while, but eventually left. He wanted to find that Dar Manda bastard Thay, and put a blaster bolt straight through his brains.

Family came First, was what Jon and Calamita had always taught them. You don't betray family, even if you hate them. Jak buried his sister, and buried his mother and fathers belongings with her, in an unmarked grave. He prayed to them, knowing they were part of the Oversoul in Manda now, that they'd forgive him.

For he didn't plan to let Thay live, even if they were family. Even if he needed to break every Canon to do it, he'd get that son of a bitch and make him pay. Him, and every sorry, yellow bellied snake that sheltered him.

Gear

Quick on the draw and ready for anything, Jak Rau arms himself with a pair of ZA-13's, enjoying the feel and the weight of the pair of pistols over the usual strill. However, when he's not using his pair of big irons at his hips, Jak sports the weapon of his homeworld, the Shriek Eagle Long Carbine, being perfect for long range engagements and feeling nice against the shoulder, according to himself. He enjoys the engine roar of a 67-X Stormcloud, the wind against him as he pilots helping to blow off steam, and sometimes enjoys just piloting his swoop bike, just to ride a couple hours in bliss. Jak has his own vehicle, a MM5-Marev, which he refuses to refer to as a Cycad. He used it to commit his fast strikes and raids, usually helping to hit a cargo ship hard to waylay it, and dock it with the Raiding Fleet afterwards. However, Lately he has been using it as his personal transportation, the cramped accommodations forcing him to stop by other planets to rest and make camp, a vagrant lifestyle even by most mandalorian standards. And of course, what mandalorian would he be, without his own set of Beskar'gam. The old, worn, damaged set, once belonged to his father, and saved him on more then one occasion. Basic by most standards, it is something Jak has no intention of ever replacing, wearing it as a memento to the dead, and a promise of putting others to their early graves.

You should link his beskar'gam to a write up somewhere, even if it's just the basic one available to all mandos until you customize a write up of your own. Outside of that, the profile looks good. I hope he catches his brother, that guy seems like a real dick.

Approved!
