Interesting Idea that needs to be discussed OOC... I'm not sure where else to put it

I already PMed Green ranger with this idea, but I wanted to run it by the Majority as well:

Kittie and I were talking on AIM, and we came up with the idea of having her new Jedi's training thread set at 10 years ago. That way, as soon as that was finished, she could jump into RP with a fully grown character.

I am picturing it somewhat like a flashback or time jump sort of deal.

Thoughts?

If you can work it into the story or find someone with a Jedi Knight old enough in the order to have done it IC, then I think it'd be fine.

I would greatly appreciate the chance to do this my character, if at all possible...

As awesome as that sounds, I'll have to opt out with Darin, I created him specifically for the purpose of working up to Knighthood :P

I'd be willing to use my rogue Jedi Knight, Weisheng, to do this for people, since he didn't leave the order until four years ago.

I had the idea of doing this sort of thing. Though even if it wasn't a well known option I don's see how it clashes with the rules.

I was always under the impression that training sort of took place out of sync with the time of the Main story, so in training they can have a padawan who's either at a consistent age (probably late teens/early twenties) or one who grows as they go, and when someone was promoted to knight, even if the given amount of time hadn't passed in the main story, they should age their character appropriately (to early to mid-twenties, or later if they so wish).

I've always trained in this way, be it as a padawan or as a master. The only thing this does is it means you can't join main-story threads until you've achieved Knighthood.

Although they will still have to do missions, since that's in the requirements for becoming a Jedi Knight. Probably the easiest way to do that is get all of the training thread stuff out of the way first, then say the character is 18 or something and it's present day. Then they can do the mission requirements.

That was my original thought as well. But I'm quite confused as to how time is measured at all.
In any case, I'd like to be able to age my characters without waiting for a main storyline to complete, if only so I can participate more extensively in it (knights and masters being preferred and all).

I asked Samowise about it when he first offered to train me and he said it was a fact that admins would never allow it o.o

People are often wrong about what is and isn't allowed because everyone has different assumptions. Never assume that "it was a fact that admins would never allow it" without double checking that with an admin.

We've had a few instances in the last half a year or so where one or two people have assumed something and then they told over a dozen people. They were all wrong, and the small group that started it was just making assumptions.

So yeah, double check with us if you're ever confused about something. :)

Yeah, and to be honest I still don't get how would that work :CStern: You know we are following a specific timeline so from my point of view getting back in time to train your character would just ruin everything, and make it complicated.

Not really, because it would exist independently of what's going on currently.

Training rarely, if ever, has anything to do with the timeline. If you do the training thread stuff "ten years ago" or something but then do your missions in the "present day," it really doesn't make any difference.

EDIT: Aka. per Kittie.

Yeah, but you need to do missions to get advanced to the rank of Knight. And well maybe its just me but I don't think it would be fine if you did missions during the Alsakan crisis.
