Hey folks. It's that time again, where I suggest something that sounds like a good idea in my head but probably isn't in all reality. :P

I've been contemplating the idea of a making an Indie Force-Sensitive faction for a while, at least since I still roleplayed as an Imperial Knight. Originally, I was hoping to have my Jedi character be relevant to the faction, but I've decided that it'd be better to just make an entirely new character for it, rather than attempting to recreate the Jel Shay, Fallanassi, Jennsaari or some other moderately obscure canonical faction.

My plan in short is in the spoiler. I've got quite a few things to hammer out, even the name and what planet they're on for example. The history I have a little idea in my mind that I'll write-out if there is an interest in it. Basically the group is a Gray-Jedi type group. A 'true neutral' if you will. They thrive on the thought that Order is achieved when both major sides of the Force balance out, but with the abundance of the Empire and the fastly disappearing Jedi, they have sensed numerous disturbances in the Force. The leader of this Gray Order has decided that it is time that they act, fearing the total destruction of the Jedi Order. Oddly enough, this faction does not wish for the Total destruction of the Sith, but rather a balance.

I hope that some of you are interested in this. I hope to have this faction be able to interact with a broad spectrum of factions, since they aren't strictly dedicated to one side. It's a faction that's been isolated for the last 100+ years, so making a new character for it may be a bit of a pain, but if you've got a relevant reason, I don't mind accepting members of other factions in, if their FL doesn't mind or you don't mind the risk involved.

Grey Jedi Order
A Fanon Force Sensitive Faction
Accept Logic, not Passion.
Follow Order, not Entropy.
Depend on Yourself, not Others.
[Feels like another line should be here]
Trust the Force, not Faith.

Accepting logic is the first step towards serenity. Thoughts and actions fueled by passion and emotion can be reckless and harm your intentions more than they help. [Faction] accepts that not everyone can be saved, and that logic should be used to decide who or what is top priority. Meditation is looked upon to help achieve this state of mind.

Following order is possibly the most important tenet for the [faction]. The [faction] acknowledges that there is no Order within the Galactic scale of things, but rather than falling into the disorder and entropy of it all, they work to maintain a balance. This is dependent on the [factions] ability to stay truly neutral within the confines of the Force. To stay between the lines of Good and Evil is to fall within the realm of Order.

Depending on oneself helps one to follow the code better. To be self-reliant is desirable, but the [faction] is still willing to aid each other in times of need. It is expected for members of the Order to have a wide range of skills by the time their apprenticeship period is over. [to be expanded on]

Something SomethingHaven't figured out a good fourth line, yet.

Trusting the Force is the most important part of the code. To the Order, it is the Force that provides the Galaxy with all it has. At the end of the day, you follow what the Force tells you, not what others do.

The Force Theory

One of the issues that the founding members of the Order had with the concepts that the Sith and Jedi was their conceptualization of the Force. To them, they felt that the Sith and even the Jedi would often treat it more as a tool or an extension of their own mind rather than as it's own separate entity.

While not worshiping it in a religious fashion, the Order views it as the Force as a living being. To them, it was an omnipotent, all-powerful being that could be manipulated and used by those blessed as Force-Sensitives. They fear that excessive and trivial use brings harm to the Force, which causes an Entropy effect on the Galaxy. Along with this, they feel that all living creatures are connected to the Force in some way, which is what causes disturbances in the Force when mass death occur.

With this belief, the Order does not disapprove of Force Usage, but rather it should be used in moderation. If one is capable of doing an action without the Force, then they should not use the Force for it. This is the reasoning behind their belief that all members should be self-reliant in both physical and Force-related senses.

The Force, in short, to them is not a tool, but rather a Companion. Meditation is a practice in which they can communicate with the Force, so they can become in-tune with both themselves and the being that it is.

A while back I had written a Code of Gray. Here it is.

The Code of Gray
There can be no Light without Darkness.
There is no good without evil.
There is passion, yet peace.
Serenity, yet emotion.
Chaos, yet order.
Through the Force, I shall maintain the balance.

I would sign up for this but I don't have a character that could fit and I'm trying to keep my number of characters small. Good luck with this idea!

How about, for a fourth line, something like "Promote Balance, not Instability."

Think that might work? It'd certainly fit with the vibe I'm getting from these folks, and it wouldn't just repeat the "Order not Entropy" part.

Just to put my two cents in here, but try to avoid calling them anything along the lines of Gray Jedi ICly. That term is generally used for misguided or unorthodox former Jedi who cut ties with the Order, as opposed to a Force Sect that tries to use Light and Dark sides equally.

Its also a harder sell to establish their niche role in the galaxy, since Jedi of this era are allowed to use both Light and Dark Side powers, so I'd recommend having a think about why a character would want to join such a sect as this when the Jedi can (in most cases) accomodate similar practices.

By no means take this as me trying to dissuade you from the idea, however. I just want to make sure you're bringing a solid concept to a faction so it has an opportunity to develop.

Yeah, "Grey Jedi Order" is definitely a temporary name. I'll probably have something more unique along the lines of "Order of the Something Something". Just hoping that a good name will come to me soon that's not tacky. I'm aware of the two definitions and I have always associated it more with the 'Legacies' definition rather than the KotOR definition. A Force-User who is not inherently a Jedi, but does not have Dark side leanings like a Dark Jedi or Sith. It feels like a more important definition than just someone who doesn't like the Jedi Council.

As for what makes this faction unique? I know this sounds like a cop out, but I'm still working on that. Many of the Grey Sects have their own unique design to them, the Voss Mystics could see the future, Jensaaraii did hiding stuff, and the Imperial Knights had a unique set of codes and beliefs which made them stick out. All non-Jedi, non-Sith factions have a distinguishing feature whether it's a unique weapon, alchemy or Force specialization, but that I haven't found yet for this faction.

I'll likely have something along the lines of the Jensaarai where they are proficient at concealing themselves in the Force, since I'm planning on this to be a historical established, albeit minuscule in the Galactic community prior to the start of RP. I'm thinking maybe something along the lines of having a specialization in Pyrokinesis, Cryokinesis, or maybe Electrical Judgement. I have to read more about Force powers to really figure out what'd make them more interesting.

I'm interested in this, I kinda want to make a new character, and this fits perfectly with my RL philosophies.

Haha, thanks. I suppose it holds true to me as well.
