KROWNEST
1800 Hours

The first level of the base is has been secured but the lower levels are locked down by automated security. Members must deal with the droids and automated defenses by either destroying all of it or reaching a computer mainframe on the lowest level and shutting the system down.

Another mission for the glory of Mandalor! The young red head daughter of House Eldar could not be more thrilled. While the mission was given to them by a separate clan -Clan Wren- Corrine was still more than happy to help. The objective was to set up an outpost for all Mandalorians to use in the war effort. Corrine could get behind that. Not only for her own selfish reasons, but for the good of the people.

While it was not a secret, Corrine tried to keep her family's history from being gossiped about. When Corrine was just turning into a young adult and about to be on her own, her father committed suicide. It was a dishonest and disgraceful thing to do and it brought nothing but shame upon the family of all girls. Her father had always wanted a son in which to raise and share in combat with. Now, girls in Mandalorian culture were just as capable of men; something the red head proved time and time again with her mercenary friends from Clan Solus. Her father had even trained Corrine's two elder sisters. But neither of them had the spark that Corrine had for battle and by the time he'd finished training Corrine he just couldn't take the failure of his own shortcomings.

It had been custom to not have more than one child at a time so that each child could be brought up knowing how to fight and defend their house and home. Their father had set it in his mind that he would try again after her finished raising Corrine. But as the years took a toll on him he just couldn't bring himself to do so and took his life instead. Corrine could see all the signs that her father was getting more and more depressed as time went on, but she'd never thought he'd do something so cowardly. It left a huge hole in her heart. Even worse, the people she thought were her friends and neighbors suddenly began to ignore the fact their father had even existed. Better to cast out the weak and pretend he never existed. That was his punishment. A punishment Corrine bore more than anyone.

It had been from then on that Corrine dedicated her life to restoring her family's honor. She'd joined a mercenary group and married one of the members which happened to be in the same clan as her. Together the rag tag group carried out several missions for the glory of Mandalore. But then she learned her husband had perished.

Corrine was devastated. Loss was natural for Mandalorians. But it didn't make the pain any less. She hadn't seen him in months and for all she knew he'd died not knowing all the amazing things she'd done; Corrine liked to send him video messages from time to time. He never sent any back, that was just his way of life. How many would go unwatched...?

As she flew out to the system of Krownest, she tried not to cry for the hundreth time. She was flying a Kal class fighter ship which was currently flying through hyperspace at light speed. She was sitting in the pilot's seat even though auto-pilot was technically engaged from the navi-computer. Her mind too distracted to go find something else to do with her time. Like any other day, she wore her iron skin, her race's Beskar'gam that Corrine had painted red in which to honor her family. On her hips were two "strill" blaster pistols[/U] and in the other room was her favorite Westar C-1 blaster rifle. She never carried any other weapon, though some Mandalorians liked to have vibro knives. Eventually she'd get one. She did have a wrist mounted flamethrower though, but she didn't consider that a "weapon" since she didn't hold it in her hands.

A flashing light on the ship's console indicated that they were getting close. She would sit up and pull the ship out of hyperspace as Krownest appeared in her sight. She sighed and took a moment to calm herself down. Now was no time to be dwelling over things that were beyond her control. She was on a mission. So she focused on that. They were here to take out a base. The Alpha team, the first team to show up, had already broken into the base and secured the first level. Beyond that were automated security measures that would need some more attention than what they'd expected when storming the base. Insert Corrine Eldar. She had no idea what was waiting for her in the lower floors of the base, but she was sure it would fall at the end of her blaster. If there was one thing she was good at, one thing her father drilled into her, it was fighting. Corrine would take this base, or die trying. There was no surrender. No giving up. She was all in.

For she had nothing to lose....

"This is Corrine Eldar," she would radio in to the base down below. "I'll be in your sights momentarily. I'd rather not get shot down today, kk?"

Cold. Nothing, but 'cold' rang through Galaar's mind, as they flew into Krownest's airspace. The ship itself was insulated, but he knew the moment he stepped off this ship, he wouldn't be within 2 miles of a noteworthy heat source. He had been asked to join Corrine on this mission, at a bar two or three nights before, and he stewed angrily at the contractor for failing to mention that the planet was a frozen hell-scape.

He would have to suck it up for the time being, and get through to payday. He would definitely live - but he would bitch the whole way. "Kad-dammit, yer boy ain't ready fer all this snow," he said out loud as they broke through the atmosphere. Sitting next to Corrine in the cockpit, he listened as she called in her landing, and chuckled a bit, as it showed her age a bit, but he had to get his mind on the mission that he would be an integral part of, because of his knowledge of slicing and ability to work with Droids. Finally, a chance to use his tertiary skills for a modicum of good. He brought with him a slicing pad, that he'd need to keep on him, because he did not carry a computer spike in his armor.

"Yeah, don't shoot at us, Galaar Rau, here, I'll be yer slicer fer the ev'nin', over," he said, adding to Corrine's statement.

(Sorry for the shit post, I couldn't think of more to add, but I didn't want to hold this up any longer.)

Galaar Rau was a strange one; Corrine could attest to that. At first she'd thought she'd met the wrong person entirely. Her basic file she'd read on the man prior to their encounter said he was twenty five, only a year older than she. But the man standing in front of her looked twice that. Either the file was wrong, in the way that it hadn't been updated; or she wasn't dealing with Galaar at all, rather his father. Galaar senior? Was it rude to ask...?

"Yer boy?" she'd mouth to herself as he spoke. He definitely had a strange way of talking. That was for sure. Perhaps he would be better suited if the two spoke in Mandoa? She had no issue with it. She'd grown up around Mandalorians and spent time with them in almost every aspect of her daily life. Though recently on Nar Shaddaa -the past two years- she and the Clan Solus crew would make sure to exclusively speak in Basic so as to not through people onto the scent of their Mandalorian heritage.

He'd then say his peace over the radio to introduce himself to the welcoming crew down below. So he was a slicer. That made sense. Of course they'd pick a slicer to come down and deal with the automatons. Corrine didn't dislike droids or anything, but she'd never bothered to learn Binary so she always had to have a translator present, or a program application that could write out what the droid was saying on her wrist gauntlet.

She decided test the waters though to see if the man spoke their language, "Sure Ru'kel cuyir a shame meh val shot mhi daab, staabi? << Sure would be a shame if they shot us down, right? >>" She'd posed the way she said it to not sound too much like a question if he didn't speak it. But what kind of Mandalorian didn't know their own tongue?

Bringing the ship close to the base she was directed to a specific landing pad and brought the bird down without issue. Since they weren't in combat -nor were her brothers around in which to toy with them- she could take her time and make sure everything went as smooth as possible. With the landing gear firmly locked in place Corrine would shut down the engines and give a smile to Galaar.

"Let's get going. Don't like being late."

She would then exit the cabin and snatch up her helmet to her Beskar'gam before leaving the ship down the ramp. As the cold wind hit her she made a point to latch the helmet to her suit and a soft hiss let her know the airlock was complete. The H.U.D. function kicked on and now Corrine saw the world like she was doing battle with it. Combat was no stranger to the Mandalorian daughter. Working out of a visor would be second nature.

The base was mostly worn down from time and lack of use. But the Mandalorian's who'd come to claim it had busied themselves getting everything operational. Construction lamps and the sort would be plugged in around various corners with long cords connecting them all to one generator. Apparently they hadn't managed to get the power on in every part of the complex just yet. Hence why she and the slicer were there. To get to the bottom of this -pun intended- they'd have to clear out the lower floors of whatever automated defenses they had. And Corrine had a sinking feeling they'd be doing it in the dark.

"Olarom at Krowsnest << Welcome to Krowsnest >>" a young Mandalorian would say as he approached them. Corrine saluted him in typical Mandalorian greeting and he would continue. "Meh gar Kelir shekemir ni, Ni Kelir tengaanar gar at te lift << If you follow me, I will show you to the lift >>"

"Vor entye << Thank you >>" the red suited Mandalorian would reply. She'd then switch to Basic, "We want to get started right away. The sooner we clear the place out the sooner we get home to our warm beds."

The boy would smile and nod agreeing with her sentiment. But he wouldn't get to leave anytime soon. Not until his father who was working on site would leave too. He'd take them through the base to the electromagnetic lift in the middle of the facility. This they had restored power to. But Corrine wondered how long it would stay active and if they could use it all the way down. Again, she had a bad feeling about it.

"Vor entye << Thank you >>" she would say again to the boy and then step onto the lift. "You ready for this?" she'd ask Galaar. "Anything you need before we depart? I doubt we'll be able to head back up once we've gone down."

Her assumptions on his profile had been correct - his profile had not been updated for some ten years, thus the Mandalorian's confusion was warranted. (Didn't realize I had him so young, I've been roleplaying him like he was in his thirties for ages, lol) He could tell she was trying to make heads or tails of him. "Staabi," he responded to her, just before they began their landing. He stood, readying his Shriek Eagle, tossing the sling around his shoulder, and picking up the slicer pad before clipping it to his belt, and departing with her off the ship to be met by another young vod, obviously having been involved in taking this compound.

Listening to the two converse, Galaar, simply primed his slicer pad, as his droid 'Git' fluttered down from his place in the ship. "Aw hell, Git I fergot'chu was there," he said, after jumping a bit. Git chortled, saying something in droid-speak, "Oh you hush, ya little prick, I'm not afraid of you. I done shot'chu once, I'll do it again."

The droid lowered itself in the air next to Galaar, and beeped solemnly, remembering that horrifying day on the gun range. Luckily Galaar was able to salvage his memory banks and personality. As insufferable as the droid could be at times, he was Galaar's partner in crime, and even though they bickered almost endlessly, it was all out of love.

"Naw, dah'lin' I got it all, let's hop to it." he said, nodding to Corrine.

Now that galaar had given her the alright, she would press the button to the lift and the doors would close. The elevator would descnd downward only going just a few stories down. It might have felt like they were going down three of four flights, but the level was on uneven ground due to the mountain. So, the second actual level was in fact just that far down. It would come to a slow descent and Corrine moved to the side of the wall just in case when the doors opened, nothing came through to end them. The doors slid open with a hiss and the both of them waited. Silence. Corrine nodded to Galaar and moved forward, checking her corner before actually departing. They were in a single room with another door on the other side. Which explains why they so far didn't meet any opposition.

She moved to the next door and let Galaar do what he did best: slice the door open. She figured a lock could easily be bypassed, especially since they brought a droid with them, but she figured let the techie do the electronic work and she handle the blasting. That's what she did best. The door would prove as mere child's play that even Corrine could have done if she tried. The base wasn't exactly trying to lock anything in or out. That's what the droids were for. Although neither of them knew it at this moment, the entire second floor would consist of thus: one soldier droid, six aerial enemies (whether they were flying droids or security turrrets), and three large sentry bots that would need more than a mere rifle to bring down.

Corrine waited for the doors to open and she again checked her corner by quickly peering into the dark. At first glance she didn't see anything, and that troubled her. Anything could be waiting for them and they could be walking right into a trap. How annoying. She raised her Westar and kept her finger steadily on the trigger. She wouldn't worry about crossing sights with any Friendlies, so she wouldn't bother playing it safe with her gun. She saw something move...she'd shoot.

"Step carefully. I'm not sure what we'll see in there."

Moving further into the black she would light up her headlamp and shine a bright funnel of light ahead of her vision. Her H.U.D. would pick up no signs of life, not surprising considering the place was supposed to be abandoned. And then she saw movement. Corrine snapped to her left and would fire her blaster two times. Blue blaster bolts flew from the gun and burned tiny holes into the small frame of a soldier droid. It's body fell and collapsed, twitching as it did while the elctronis in its system tried to cope with the damage. Then Corrine gasped. Beyond the fallen droid were a dozen more of them. Corrine backed up and aimed her gun back and forth in a snapping motion. Targetting each one she made sure none of them were moving and if she saw even the slightest hunch she'd blast it to pieces.

But no such luck. The dozen or so that were there had seemed to have lost all power and were now no more a threat than the bugs she squashed under her boot. But even they gave her some practice because they moved and posed a slight challenge to pick off with her "Strill" pistols. Corrine would turn her head to Galaar to see what he thought and then she heard motion behind her. Like a trained solider she turned and snapped her gun to point. Out of the ceiling two long barrel guns dropped and would angle themselves at the two Mandalorians.

"Move!" Corrine shouted while jumping to take cover behind the host of powered down droids.

The turrets spun and made a whirring sound until blaster fire rained down into the floor and followed her trail. Corrine shrieked as she wove her way trhough the droids to get out of its line of sight. She wasn't sure if both were firing at her, or if one was trained on Galaar too. But she wasn't about to turn around and check.

Over the noise her partner would hear her shout again, "Do something!"

Galaar made a dash for cover after the first door fell with little effort. This was where he and Git truly shined, working codes together. Speaking fluently in Binary, code deciphering was second nature to Galaar, and he whizzed through the simplest doors. Now having come in to the area with heavy droid presence, his eyes widened with excitement. If he could find a way to turn them off and not damage them, he could take the mother load of salvage home, and have a half dozen new droids for the farm.

When the turret dropped, Galaar dove behind a steel pillar, as he was a bit behind Corrine as she moved in. The barrels both snapped to a position, but Git was able to draw fire away from both Corrine, as he bobbed and weaved through the air, presenting a small and quick target that simply couldn't be hit easily. Meanwhile, while Git was busy writing messages in the wall, Galaar moved up, to try and hack the turret, but was locked out, which led to Git being mildly damaged, and being forced to call of the distraction. There was, however time for Corrine and Galaar both to move behind cover, and either destroy the turret, or wait for the lockout timer to go up, so Galaar can try again. They had to be wary of the other droids in the area, that now knew they were not meant to be there.

Galaar pressed himself against the crate he hid behind, waiting for the turret to default back to it's persistent swivel, to move up closer, and get a manual reboot on the unit itself, but couldn't find an opening that he was comfortable with. He'd leave it up to Corrine to make a move, from whatever position she found herself in, after having time to get to cover.

While Corrine made a mad dash for cover, her partner's handy little droid came in hr path and drew the fire of both turrets simultaneously. Corrine got behind one of the several steel pillars in the room, opposite of Galaar, and took a moment to find her breath again. She pulled out her Westar once more and would turn and begin firing at the turning droids. The second one was easiest to shoot from her angle and as she came back out of cover she was able to blow it to pieces. However, it was at this time that Git took his own hit and moved out of range. The remaining one on the left would arc back and see Corrine firing at it, unable to get a good shot as it spun. It's gun was already spinning and clipped Corrine in the right shoulder as it came around.

Corrine cried out and dropped her gun which was totally unlike her to do in combat. Her right arm felt numb from the mass of pain she was feeling in that moment, and her left came up and clasped the hot burn in her shoulder plate trying to dull the pain in her flesh. It didn't do much good because she couldn't reach her arm. Corrine ducked back under cover and swore loudly. That was stupid of her! Why didn't she wait? She looked and saw Galaar returning from his effort to get closer and she'd turn her head in shame. Not that he could see past her visor, but she didn't want him to see her in pain.

"I'm fine!" she'd call out to him even though she was clearly not. "It just surprised me is all."

So for now they waited. It took only thirty seconds for the turret to start swiveling again, and that's when one of the sentry bots would start to make its way down to them. Corrine looked back over her good shoulder to see the sound of the moving gears and groaned. Oh dear. This was not going to be fun. She looked back over to Galaar hoping he had a plan. Because hers involved grabbing her pistol and getting to her gun she'd dropped. It wasn't....that far away.

Using that time to her advantage, Corrine jumped from her spot after drawing one of her two pistols and began firing with her left hand to take out that overhead gun. Her shots went wide as she ran and as she was about to scoop up her gun, the larger sentry bot started firing at her. Corrine rolled out of its path and further from her gun trying to get back to her post. She swore again and checked the ammunition she'd spent in the gun. Why was she having such a hard time shooting hers down?

"I'm kind of pinned down here! You didn't happen to bring anything that goes boom, did you?"

Resting her head against the back of the beam she groaned and tried to push through the pain. She hated getting shot. It hurt. A lot. And the burning ache only got worse as time went on. You'd think you'd get used to the pain after the initial shock, not that it would get worse and worse. This sucked. They weren't even through the first room yet and they'd only managed to take out two droids. How embarrassing. She hoped Galaar had a good plan in store because they were out numbered. They'd need an army to take out these things if they kept failing at life.

Galaar saw Corrine take a hit to the shoulder. It looked ugly, as she dropped her pistol, though the armor she wore was able to protect her from much of it. Galaar took initiative, and removed himself from cover, firing at the turret, twice, peppering the turret with a pair of bolts, and knocking it out of commission. "C'mon, it's just a flesh wound, we'll play doctor later," he chided, just as the sentry bot that had given Corrine some trouble turned and set it's sights on Galaar. In an an exchange of blaster fire, Galaar would be hit with a glancing shot off of the side of his gauntlet, sending a searing burning sensation through his rifle's support arm, before landing a shot dead in the center of the droid's chest, destroying all the hardware necessary for all function in the droid. The operational hum faded away, and the droid lost all signs of activation.

Galaar took that time to move out from cover, and move to Corrine, "You awright? I's kiddin' a second ago, we need ta keep movin'. If you cain't make it, I'll go git'at other kid ta help me. No need ta kill yerself fer this mission," he said, in a more concerned tone, no trace of sarcasm, or jokes to be heard, "Lemme know what'chu wanna do, 'fore I open'at other door," he said, placing a hand on her uninjured shoulder. Git, in the meantime got ready to help Galaar hack open the door, locking into the system, and preparing a codebreaker for Galaar.

"I'll hold you to that!" she'd tease about his comment of playing doctor.

She'd watch him run into cover and fire a few shots, taking one of his own. Corrine winced at the sound of the metal searing. It reminded her of her own wound. But a moment later the sound of the droids ended. He'd then return to her and ask how she was doing, and if they needed to turn back. Corrine got to her feet and shook her head. She retrieved her rifle and would double check the ammo.

"No. I can fight. We Mando's don't give up, ya hear?"

He'd put a supporting arm on her good shoulder and she leaned into him. Not out of weakness, but to save some of her strength. It helped her try and forget about the burning numbing spreading down her arm. She half carried, half dragged her gun to her side. Maybe she should just switch to pistols? After a few steps she'd stop and sling the gun over her shoulder which was awkward without the use of both arms. While Galaar and Git worked on tearing the next door open, she'd ready herself with her pistol and try to roll her arm around hoping to get some feeling back into it.

"After you. Let's see this done."'

The doors to the next room would then slide open with Galaar's slicing and Corrine peered into the darkness. From here, she could see another four turrets waiting for movement in the large room. In the back of the room would be another sentry bot; its back was currently to them and it wouldn't be able to see them where they were at currently. Corrine gestured to the four aerial guns in the room, but she figured he could see the sentry bot making slow loud steps around the room.

"Any chance you can hack into one of those guns for us? Have it shoot down its buddies?"

After the door opened, Galaar immediately went to work trying to gain access to turret controls, but was immediately targeted by the turrets who miraculously missed most of their shots, tagging Galaar in his upper thigh with a light bolt. Quickly, he rolled into cover in a divot within the wall, and avoided the worst of the blaster-fire, as the rest slammed into the wall behind them. During a break in the turrets' collective blaster fire, Galaar, moved to the opposite side of the hallway, behind the frame of the door, taking a hit to his upper right thigh from the second of the four turrets. "Kad-damnit!" he exclaimed, as the burn shot up and down his leg. Growling angrily, from under his helmet, he swung around, roaring a battle cry from the bottom of his gut, and acquired his first target, on turret one, and fired, hitting it directly in the center, between the barrels. The second shot on the turret that had hit him was not as lucky, flying to the right, but the two after on the other two turrets struck true, as the one had on the first. On his own, he was able to disable three of the four turrets, in a fiery display of rage-induced battle focus.

Surprised by his own handiwork, he looked back at Corrine, "D'you'see'at'chit?" he said, blending the words together in a way only a good old boy from Concord Dawn could. "I cain't hack worth a rip today, but I'll be damned if I cain't shoot!" he hollered, his accent thickening as he spoke.

"Kriff!" the girl shouted as Galaar was targeted by the droids.

Sheesh! Couldn't they get at least one break? Was that too much to ask? Apparently so. She ran in, firing her gun with one hand at the turret that Galaar was not able to get. It shattered into pieces and began to fall from the ceiling. The most miraculous thing happened then as the gun fell. It had still left in it the slightest spark and when the gun hit the floor it went off, shooting a stream of bolts into the large sentry in the back. Corrine stood there, totally in awe; her mouth was even hung agape though it couldn't be seen behind her visor.

"Did-did-did that just happen?" she asked, totally in disbelief.

She looked to him and then back at the droids, and then back to him. Yep. Sure enough. They were dead. This room was clear. And it got taken out by one of their own. In a way that could not be explained any other way than as a miracle. Lowering her gun she took a moment to make sure there were no other droids lurking about. Time to move on and finish this mission. Corrine moved further, once Galaar was ready of course, and tracked the hallways and corridors not finding any other sign of resistance. Until they came upon the last large space on this floor.

The door was already open, a sign that said there wouldn't be much of anything valuable inside. But there were still threats and a single sentry bot was positioned in the center of the room and facing them. Corrine checked her sights as she snapped in and out of view, but the droid hadn't seen her. She heard it coming to life to start scanning though, and that would spell trouble. But at least it wasn't firing at them for now.

"Looks like this is the last one. How you want to handle it?"

Galaar peered out of the corner of the doorway to witness the spectacle, not believing what he saw was real the same way Corrine had. He was about to make a hoot of the whole situation, but the door beside Corrine had opened, and he could hear the Sentry's scanners rattleing off, faintly around the corner from him, and as soon as he moved the red beam of the scanners caught his movements, even before Corrine, thus drawing the fire toward him. taking another hit, and wounding his right shoulder. taking out the plating that protected that arm. His body rocked to the side as the bolt slammed home, and he dropped his rifle. He managed to maintain his footing, he was able to draw and fire on of his Strill pistols left-handed, before taking a hit to his left hip, and chest piece before damaging the droid's optical nodes throwing it's aim off before any fatal damage could be dealt. He threw himself back behind cover, in pain, but still able to continue on.

"You'll have ta take eem out, I'm hurtin'!" he shouted from behind cover, clutching his searing shoulder, burning the tips of his fingers as he tried to force the super-heated metal before it fused to his skin, hoping Corrine could finish off the last of the droids. It was a shame he couldn't get any in tact to take home with him, he needed a new project, after lying low a bit after sustaining this many burns. Nevertheless, they'd fought their way almost completely all the way through the main doors of the base, and only had a little bit further. The two Mandalorians hadn't gotten through it unscathed, but they remained whole, and did not back down.

Corrine grunted as she moved behind cover. She heard the firing and flinched, but realized it was not shooting at her. She looked up just in time to see the sentry firing at Galaar, wounding him in the leg. She bit her lip and ran out from cover, shooting her pistol at its leg joint. The bolts hit their point and the entire thing struggled with its weight and toppled over onto its side. She heard Galaar calling out that she needed to finish it. So she nodded and ran forward. She drew her other pistol now, wincing as she did, and started firing at its other legs to make sure it stayed down.

Her pistols were nearly out of ammo by the time she made her way around and fired the last remaining bolts into his eye. It wasn't the cleanest kill, but the mechanics inside sparked and melted until the entire thing switched off. Corrine stayed still, the barrels of each pistol raised at the hole in the body. She didn't trust droids to not fake their deaths. But once she was sure that it wasn't going to move, she'd then lower her guns into her hip pouch; not before reloading them with the previous clip she'd been using.

Now that the coast was clear, Corrine hurried over to Galaar and crouched down at his side to make sure he was alright. "How are you feeling? How are your wounds? Can you walk?"

Corrine spoke fast, but she was worried about him after all. Once she was sure he wasn't in any life threatening situations, she'd help him to his feet and start making their way back to the lift. They were both tired, covered in burns, and totally ready to be off this maze of a base. She didn't know about Galaar, but she could sure do with a shower. Inside the lift, she leaned Galaar against the wall and pushed the button for it to raise them up to the top floor.
