DESCRIPTION​

The Ilum-class frigate is a vessel used by the the Jedi Order in hiding and various Rebel cells. With its large guns, armor and shields, it is meant primarily for taking on other capital warships, such as enemy frigates, corvettes and cruisers. It is often the backbone of Rebel and Jedi fleets, often being the largest and most powerful such vessel a given cell might possess.

The Ilum is well armed, equipped with 14 dual medium laser turrets, 10 dual heavy laser turrets and a trio of turbolaser turrets, allowing it to deal with most capital ships of similar size easily enough. Notably, however, the type does not possess weapons or targeting systems which are particularly effective against starfighters and other small, very maneuverable craft, making them dependent on support vessels such as the Distance-class corvette to fend off attacks from such vessels. The Ilum can carry up to 8 starfighters of its own, however, plus a quartet of shuttles.

Ilum-class frigates, due to their vulnerability against starfighters, typically operate within fleets, or in tandem with support vessels such as the aforementioned Distance. Like most large Rebel and Jedi vessels, Ilum-class frigates are built primarily in secret Rebel-operated shipyards beyond the boundaries of Imperial space.
