DESCRIPTION
Identify-Friend/Foe (IFF) spoofers are a common modification made by smugglers and other criminals to aid their passage through systems they may not otherwise be welcome in. Normal ships permanently store a single single "packet" of registration and other vital documents, which are logged and recorded by sector authorities when a ship lands or passes through. Although they vary widely in quality and storage capacity, all IFF spoofers function approximately the same by transmitting pre-programmed false registration codes, operating permits, customs slips, and other necessary forms of ID that might be needed to land at a spaceport or station, or that might be demanded by customs inspectors, allowing the pilot to pass themselves off as Random Joe cargo hauler or whoever else they like, instead of broadcasting as a smuggler with the death mark in 12 systems. The user must know ahead of time what documents are needed, what they look like, and must program a convincing forgery ahead of time, although the system can store numerous such IDs at once. The spoofer cannot spontaneously generate new documents on the fly, or clearance codes or passwords. Finally, the best spoofer in the galaxy won't save you if a customs inspector boards you and finds 10 kilos of spice on your sabaac card table.

[For added difficulty in plot threads, you can use the dice function to roll a difficulty check for your spoofer, modified by the quality of it and the reliability of your source of forged documents. Failed checks may result in boarding by authorities.]

LEGALITY
IFF spoofers are universally illegal, though the penalties range from impounding and imprisonment in Republic space to hefty bribes to be paid in Hutt Territory .

INTENT
This serves as basic enabling mod to customize ships for smugglers, pilots, and similar characters who might be interested.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. IFF spoofers are almost always custom jobs that require a skilled outlaw slicer or tech to build. You also get what you pay for. Basic spoofers can be acquired in 1-2 threads, while more advanced versions may take 2-3. For high end false documents- the type that will get you in anywhere at any time- additional threads or plots may be required to obtain or create the appropriate forgeries.
