...that I could produce anything above stick figure level as far as art goes.

This was supposed to be Charlton Heston (aside from the suit jacket, I stole that one from Marlon Brando...god, I love how the lapels turned out. <3 ) but it doesn't really look like Charlton Heston. Threw on some textures too, and coloured it in photoshop.

All in all it's decent, but I've got a long way to go art wise. Right now I'm limited in my ability to draw close ups of faces. I can't do bodies, at least not so far.

Let me know what you guys think. Criticism and tips and advise from more experienced artists is welcome!

It is quite nice. The eyes and the eyebrows are good.

However, the mouth and especially the ears are a bit too high. The eyes should be level with the top of the ears, and the nose should roughly be level with the ear lobes.

If you really want to improve your work though, you should work on your shading. There are some really good cell-shading tutorials on deviantart and youtube!

Thanks for the pointers, man! I'll take note of the mouth and ears. I have a huge problem working on ears, but at the very least, the next time I'll make sure to get them at the right height.

As you say, I do need to work on my shading. I still have the unflattened photoshop file, so I have a feeling I'll be tinkering with the shading in the near future to improve it. I was too sloppy this time around. Basically I just took a brush and did a single big-ass stroke across the one half.
