I'm good at writing (well fairly good).... but I have immense difficulty posting quickly and efficiently, and my threads drag on for months as a result.

I make my responses needlessly long and spend way too much time on them. I really don't know how to get over this.

Someone teach me how to RP properly plz.

I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way Marf. Some are just better than others. If you enjoy what you are doing, keep doing it.

That is true, but not being able to post an RP thread more than once or twice a week is very frustrating and I legitimately want to break the habit of epic slow posting. Not only for me, but to give folks I RP with a better experience aswell.

Step 1. Stop judging yourself.
Step 2. When posting. Push through writer's block/muse lock and just fart/spray/puke words n' stuff at the screen until it works.
Step 3. Rejoice with Bacon.
Step 4. Rinse & Repeat Steps 1 - 3.

Ta da! Now, because not only are you posting 1000x faster? But you're also no longer judging yourself or your writing anymore either. Thus eliminating your anxiety completely and maximizing your speedy replies. Continue to practice this method for 365 days to maximize your results and your speed of skill increase at writing.

Cheers. :p

I have no anxiety about my writing... unlike everything else. I'm a tad arrogant in that regard, but I'd rather be arrogant than be self-loathing. I take a long time because I enjoy producing a nice piece of writing. However, it is possible to maintain literary quality but still post efficiently, which is what I would like to achieve.

@Marf

^ Your reply above comes only mere minutes after mine. Indeed. In review I find your reply sharp, quick, efficient, and to the point. Being easy to read, browse, digest, and understand rather smashingly. Hehe. Which, as far as I'm concerned means: Well done sir. Mission complete! Lol. You've just done what you set out to do. Compose a post faster than lightning and of a quality acceptable to this communities nerdy fandom standards. Nice. :p

Apply whatever mindset, tactics, situation, location, muse, or keyboard setup you've just used when replying to me and I do believe you've found yourself a beautiful solution.

You go Marf. Killin' it. :D

I think what you mentioned to me Marf, just trying to not to do many actions in a single post, will help a lot too. Trying to do too much can make posts drag out longer than necessary when they could have been two equally nice and beautiful replies at separate times!

:D

I hope you feel better about this!

I mean, I usually post once a day. I try to make it short and sweet and all. But, my replies are painfully short, and they're not really good in any regard. So, dont listen to me completely.

I just have a similar problem I guess, thought I'd say something

I find the more I think about what to say the longer it takes me, sometimes to the point that I go weeks without replying. But if I just sit down and start typing, the character will come out and it will just flow.

I spend about an hour writing a single post, so I stink at fast paced threads. This is why I am so mad at #thatBOOB@Raydo for archiving his Sith character mid thread. Worse, is that the longer I have waited in between replies, I see so much more that can improve my own post! Once I tripled the length of my original post; nobody was going to reply anyway, so I just ran with it.

Did he archive it? I thought he just made it Indie?

1. Read the post of the other dude/doodette
2. Think about what you wish to respond for up to 2 hours
3. Set yourself a deadline (start with 12 hours)
4. Post whatever you have when the deadline is reached (no excuses, no exceptions), regardless if the post feels finished or not.

---------------
Result: You will start ending up with posts that are in your own opinion sub-par, not a nice feeling. Not a nice feeling at all. Produces anger. Anger produces the will to do it better, faster hard... *cough* You get what I mean.

With time, you will improve. In the meantime: Who can't wait for this awesome level of posting should really rethink their life.

For someone with some of the most legendarily developed characters on the site I find this to be a strange problem for you to have Marf

@Jessica Cloud hit it on the head but I will add something that took me some time to learn as well.

React-> Act.

Respond to what you need to, then keep moving. Like tennis. A lot of us enjoy writing spectacular detail, and spending a paragraph on the way the bar lighting highlight's our melon holy soul twinkling faintly behind our weary eyes; but this is not always neccessary or even helpful.

There are absolutely threads that are all a it our characters rich internal life, and the temptation is always strong to paint an image in words of their aesthetic as crisp as we imagine it ourselves. However, as they say, actions speak louder than words. Ask yourself if any of that has diddly to do with what is going on. Did the other character just insult your child who they themselves snuffed out? Did they only offer you a drink? Ask you for back up in a fight? Or take a swing at you themself?

Where is the action in the response to those different questions? What information do you need to practically convey to your partner, and what is just extra for you?

Also, trust yourself. You know your character, you not only created them, but are continuing to do so in real time, so trust your instinct and don't be afraid for it to just be simple, dumb , and messy. People are simple, dumb and messy. It'll actually make them stronger IMO. If all you need to respond is one paragraph, so be it.

I know you aren't fond of PvP, but it has helped me a lot with this, because it is practical, action driven story that requires thoughtful detail in a short timeframe, and generally just follows more rules. Rules are helpful. Then when the moment comes that a truly magnificent thing happens to your character, then blow that shit up and give it the epic treatment. If everything is important, nothing is, so choose wisely.

Damn.... How long did it take me to write this?

staaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhpppppppppp (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

The reasons my posts are so vivid, is because I imagine every scene like it's in a movie. So I think about colour, texture, music and mood, temperature, etc.

go look at our thread!
