DESCRIPTION
The HY7 Scurry is a light groundcar designed and produced by Pan-Galactic Power Products, a major manufacturing concern which builds everything from kitchen appliances to starships. Intended for frontier and backrocket markets where such vehicles are still seen as desirable, the Scurry is a light, two-person runabout, designed to function best on prepared roads.

The Scurry can carry its driver and a single passenger, and is propelled by 4 wheels sheathed by pneumatic tires and isolated with coil suspension to improve ride comfort, although this is not even within the same ballpark as repulsorcraft. It is designed to function best on paved roads, and although it has some limited off-road capability, driving it on rough terrain is not advised.

The Scurry's interior is spare, just two cloth seats, the driving controls and a rear cargo space, capable of holding about 50 kilograms. The interior can be appointed with a few factory extras, including an entertainment deck, a navigational system and an integrated comlink.

The Scurry's body work is composed of carbo-plas panels, with a plastex windscreen and rear window. There are no side windows, although snap-in transparent duraplast covers can be fitted. The chassis is durasteel tubing, with body-on-frame construction used to increase durability and ease body repair. The entire vehicle designed to be light and economical to operate.

In terms of performance, the HY7 Scurry is a zippy little vehicle for its size. Capable of 180 kph from the factory, its short wheelbase and simple construction make it a popular "tuner" machine, and its performance is regularly boosted to 200+ kph with engine, drive-train and cooling system modifications.

The Scurry is marketed primarily to worlds in the Outer Rim, where groundcars are still occasionally found, despite being typically slower, less comfortable and more prone to mechanical breakdowns than repulsorcraft. They are a cheap alternative to a landspeeder on roads, however, and so still retain some market share. Even so, sales of the Scurry - and of other vehicles in its line - have been relatively disappointing, especially as the cost of repulsorlifts continues to fall. As a result, Pan-Galactic Power Products has more than once considered discontinuing its groundcar range, including the Scurry.

Of note, PGPP operates a small factory on the planet Keowe VII, which produces the HY7 Scurry along with several other groundcar models. Due to the disappointing performance of the range, and the projected cost of retooling the lines for other products, PGPP has long considered closing the factory. This would be a major blow to the already weak local economy, however, which has not recovered from a decades-long slump in the tourism industry. In an effort to prevent this, a local conglomerate, the Keowe Transport Corporation, is in negotiations to purchase the factory outright from Pan-Galactic Power Products, and intends to continue producing the current products made there under license, as well as introducing new models.

LEGALITY
Legal. Runabouts like the Scurry are basic vehicles used by people of all stripes.

INTENT
To create a light wheeled transport usable on planets with some road infrastructure, but which are poor or below the average tech level. Repulsorcraft would be seen as superior.

ADVANCED TECH
No. Especially on worlds where advanced technology is unreliable or otherwise unavailable, they may constitute a common form of basic transportation. They are easy to buy, steal or otherwise acquire.
