Three of the characters individually arrive at an escape pod and find one of the other characters unconscious. The first thread in this plot is to resuscitate them and have the characters meet. At the end of the thread, pirates appear and attack the ships.
“Outta all of the jobs in the universe… outta all of Dadda’s couriers, Coba sends me on *bleepin’* animal detail.” Dusti complained to her lack of co-pilot, aka Nobody. She could hear all of those random critters, ranging from small and pet-sized to beasts of burden, in the cargo hold screeching and roaring and… farting. Ew, the stench of it! She was beginning to ponder the idea of a better ventilation system. But for some crack-addled reason those slimy slugs from Nal Hutta wanted these things shipped off to Mandalore, and she had a job to do. No matter… the bottle of Corillian whisky she had tucked in the compartment next to her was calling to her for another guzzle. It would have to do for now. She was nowhere close to her party scene back on Corellia… back in her city.
Ah, Coronet City, that run-down urban *bleep*-pile she called home. How she was missing the raucous uproars and the smell of the engine grease and the wild races on the road. Parties… dodging local authorities… that was the life for her, not this humdrum traveling animal farm putting along in the middle of nowhere.
After about four gulps from the bottle and a wipe of the nose on her arm she felt a little better. She had only punched two numbers of the coordinates into the hyperdrive computer when a red light flashed on her panel. “Oh look! A distress call, darlings! A good time awaits me!” she announced sarcastically. She probably would have ignored the signal if it wasn’t company policy to respond to such things… you know, in case it was another company freighter, not because of any altruism or anything. She typed in her new coordinates and turned the controls to head in that general direction. A random bluurg in the back announced his need for sustenance with a “Rhowowowlll!!!”
“You’ll eat when you get there, ya lummox!” she yelled back at him. Then she muttered, “*Bleepin’* thing, how often do ya gotta eat, anyway?” She powered up her jets a bit more for extra speed. Whoever this was, they were pretty damn lucky that Dusti hadn’t gone into hyperdrive yet. The bluurg complained again about his situation. “SHADDAP!!!” she hollered. Damn cattle. She was getting sorely tempted to use her oxygen mask, just for some fresh air.
There was a speck off in the distance, which she could only assume was the source of the signal. She cooled her thrusters a bit to slow down as it came into view. An escape pod… she observed, …that’s not a good sign. Not. At. All. *Bleeeeeeeeeeep…* A launched escape pod usually meant trouble, as it meant that someone was in a huge rush to leave their ship. Given the past experiences of other couriers in the business and her general vicinity, there was one probability that she dreaded above all others…
Pirates.
Ugh… that’ll be the last thing I need.
