Jedha

~Cantina~

[FANCYBOX2] [/FANCYBOX2]

Falora reluctantly left her home and the library within to explore the galaxy as is part of her code of conduct to find knowledge. She had noticed some signs in herself of the force. With the data gone from her reach however she couldn’t learn how to control it.She didn’t think this would be a problem till at a small stay in Nar Shaddaa ended in frustration which caused several things to fly off the hotel shelves seemingly of their own will. She had to no desire to go to either order, Sith or Jedi, as she wished to be of her own. A force user but a Keeper. She couldn’t leave those vows behind. They were part of her. Her sacred duty.

The young Nautolan ended up on Jedha about a week ago and spent her time listening in on different conversation waiting to be tipped off on some artifact of knowledge or something. It was devoid of those interests though. She became more frustrated but thankfully no one but a trained keeper or a force using reading her mind would really be able to tell. Falora decided to extend her stay at Jedha spending some spare credits for a room above a popular cantina.

The Cantina became a frequent place for her to be. She used her skills to blend in. She ended up leaving her hood down but never once exposed her face. Many men has come to hit on her and most were easy to shoo away with simple silence. One however reached for her mask and she reacted swiftly flipping backward off the stool and away from the man’s hand. She took a very defensive stance. That is when she noticed the attention she had drawn and became very uncomfortable. When trained to live in shadow having so many gazes locked on makes one very uneasy. She charged out of the cantina not paying enough attention to notice if someone followed after her.

[beebox4=600px] Sitting unobtrusively at a side table and chanting, Roo's sensors came to life as commotion erupted in part of the bar. The masked girl. He had seen her occasionally before when he visited this cantina, which was quite often; the droid couldn't drink or eat anything, naturally, but it was one of the few places in the city that would not shut its doors to him and he enjoyed people watching in the Holy City. He was hoping he might stumble on... something. Roo had first taken a notice to her for the most banal and common of reasons: with her mask on, the droid thought she looked like him. This was an exciting prospect for someone without a face, though he did not initially plan on pursuing it any further than distant admiration.

The backflip caused him to reassess his priorities, for it seemed not only did the girl look like him, but she had impressive abilities. Judging by her behavior following her stunt, she additionally did not want anyone else to notice them. An undercover Jedi? Or perhaps an undercover Sith? Roo had never met a Sith. His curiosity getting the better of his circuits, as it often did, Roo stood from his table and followed the flustered girl out.

Catching up to her outside and dismissing subtlety for efficiency, the droid laid a hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Excuse me miss, are you a Jedi?"

Falora had drawn up her hood and was ready to just disappear. That is when she felt the hand on her shoulder. A small gasp could be heard as she pulled away and turned facing the stranger. She had thought it was possibly the man from the bar and was prepared to run when she noticed it was a droid. She froze for a moment to register the situation.
"Excuse me miss, are you a Jedi?"
Falora relaxed no longer feeling threatened. Her pose shifted to standing straight her hands to her side and her shoulders relaxed. She no longer felt as unerved as she was earlier. She looked to the droid and shook her head in response to his question. 'A jedi ? Most certainly not. Why would he....oh the flip. Did I use it again? Is that why they stared?' She thought a moment but then came out of her mind and returned her attention to the droid.

[beebox4=600px] Roo noted the change in the woman's body language, for it was the exact opposite of what he encountered most; generally, with the exception of Jedi, people started out relaxed and then tensed up when they saw a droid wearing clothes. But this one was not like the others, and Roo was beginning to like her already. He decided to push the topic further.

"Are you force sensitive at all, then, or merely an acrobat?" He paused. I'm sorry, I'm being rude aren't I. I should introduce myself first. I am Roo. I ask you these questions because... I 'grew up' with a Jedi, and I've been trying to learn all I can about the Force ever since. Jedi are a good source.

A passerby, just as crushed by the crowd as they were, ran into Roo and apologized before seeing who he was talking to. They could hear him laughing as he faded back into the crowd.

Falora smiled behind her mask at the droid. He seemed friendly and so she felt more at ease. Her posture changed as he continued to ask further. She nodded as he mentioned the force sensitivity and simply switched to shake her head at the acrobatic question. When he introduced himself she stood straight with her hands to her side as a bit of respect. She rose her hand to her mask placing two fingers on her nose directing attention to herself as though to say I, "Falora." She place a hand on each shoulder of Roo firmly and then bowed her head. It was a greeting that most did not understand, but if one were to describe its meaning it was 'I welcome and respect you.' She hadn't been able to use it since her people left and she was surrounded by strangers. When the stranger bumped into Roo she was not angry when he apologized but when he began to laugh she glared at him behind the mask. The aura of her force energy flared up and she noticed in time to stop anything from happening. She turned to Roo and placed a hand over her heart and bowed her head apologizing for the strangers rude actions.

[beebox4=600px] It wasn't taking long for Roo to pick up on Falora's body language; his processors were finely tuned for pattern recognition and analysis, and her gestures were straightforward enough. Actually, he appreciated it. Her 'language' seemed more sincere than words often did... this had upsides and downsides. Seeing her anger towards the stranger was endearing for Roo, but he recognized the possible danger, especially as she had confirmed she was Force Sensitive.

"I would like to learn more about your experience with Force Sensitivity. Perhaps I'll be able to teach you something as well. But we should find a quieter place to talk. I know from experience that rooftops serve that purpose very well in this city. If you can climb, that is."

He led her to a nearby side alley. The buildings were close together here, making the alley narrow, and the walls were made of some large stones. It would be easy enough.

"You can climb, right?"

Falora followed Roo to the alley listening quietly as he spoke. She examined the walls noticing some good footholds. Climbing was a part of her basic survival training as she had grown up and as the force slowly began to react in her it had become easier. Though due to her lack of conrtol it seemed to only save her when she slipped and had a moment of extreme panic. She nodded as she was asked if she could climb. She stepped forward and jumped up grabbing a handhold and secured herself to the wall. She began climbing always examining the wall above her for her next grab. She occasionally looked behind her to make sure that Roo was still there. She pulled herself up onto the roof and turned holding out a hand to help Roo up.

[beebox4=600px] Roo allowed the Nautolan to start up the wall first; worst case scenario he could make a move to catch her if she started to fall, though he doubted that would be necessary. His armored plastoid fingers found easy enough purchase in the rough sandstone and he ascended without trouble, accepting the hand that Falora offered him once he reached the top. When he'd gotten to his feet he walked the perimeter of the roof and surveyed the view from their perch. It pleased him. Though it was not green or temperate, though it was not particularly clean, or as sprawling as Coruscant, the Holy City was awe-inspiring nonetheless. Standing and looking out over the city felt like looking through a portal into the past, into the history of the Jedi. The city felt like an archaeological dig, and Roo had never experienced a place quite like it.

"There," Roo said from the other side of the roof, gesturing to the empty space between them, "we have some privacy and some space."

The droid walked back towards Falora. His hood rippled in the breeze, slapping against his faceplate in a way that would have surely infuriated an organic being. Roo paid it no mind. When he drew close once more he continued speaking.

"I have some questions, if you would not mind answering them. I know you do not speak much, so I will appreciate any answer. What is your understanding of the Force so far? Do your people have traditions around it? And what would you like to know from me? I will answer any of your questions to the best of my ability."

Falora smiled behind her mask which would only be noticed by seeing the spark in her eyes as they peered out of her mask. She was happy someone had picked up on her language to some extent to where she did not necessarily have to speak. It gave her a sense of home something she hadn't had in quite sometime now. She thought a moment and then pulled from her pocket a crumpled page from her pocket. It had a simple bit of writing explaining the force as a connection to all things. That was all she really knew of the force. Her stance began to give off an air of sadness. All the library was gone and so was her people that was all she had left. "My people only vowed to not be on either side of the force. Remain Neutral." She found that words would best explain the answer for that question. She moved her hand across her heart and then placed her two fingers to her forehead convey a wish for knowledge of which then she followed up with bringing her hands together and rotating them from the sides till they lined up for her fingers to interlock signaling the word control. Her overall stance remained shrunken, her shoulders down and her eyes staying looking to the ground as she continued to think of her loneliness in this world with the fall of her people.

[beebox4=75%] Roo considered her answer.

"An interesting point of view. Neutrality. Not a common one... most I have studied suggests the major ideologies align with the light/dark duality, that of the Jedi against the Sith, for instance. There have been works written on the idea that there is no light or dark at all, but rather one unifying Force. They posit that it is not the Force that has any intention or nature beyond simply 'existing', and that no power has any inherent moral quality to it. They rather suggest that 'light' and 'dark' are merely reflections of the minds and hearts of the user." He paused, his featureless, flat face regarding Falora.

"Your people... you carry grief, I can see. But does anything of them still exist? Any writings? Any records?" He looked away and shook his head. "I'm sorry, that can wait. I was going to help you if I could." He stepped back from her. "You're Force Sensitive, your people had traditions, but how much did you learn? Can you control it? Or are your powers reflexive and instinctive? Do they appear when you would prefer they did not?"

"They are gone. My mask, knowledge and customs all that is left." Falora sighed but tried to brighten her aura so as to move on and not dwell in the sadness of her people, knowing that that could lead into many paths of decisions she would prefer to think of. She would rather follow the teaching she was raised on and carry out the duty she was meant for. Falora shakes her head indicating her lack of control over the force. She had tried to command it before but when she desires it it will not come when she nearly dies however or needs to escape in a panic it is there.
