With his history, it isn't hard to understand why Rai doesn't like anyone. He's practically chilly with people he knows fairly well, and if you're a stranger he's just plain rude. Being forced to grow up without a father figure has made Rai think he has to care for everyone, even though his mother is far more capable. Even though he and his mother are separated from the rest of their clan, or even other Mandalorians, they still keep a tight hold on their traditions. Rai is honorable to a fault, and has no respect for those who taint that honor.

Hitrai hates having to work at the docks, but someone has to pay the bills. He tries not to talk or even look at anyone docking, because if he screws this job up he and his mother are up a creek. When Hitrai gives something, he gives it his all so at least he can say that he died trying. Rai is deeply interested in his people and their history, and longs to join them, even though he has not met many warriors. Rai hates to be looked down on, however he will acknoledge his superiors as long as they don't do anything to wound his shaky adolescant pride.

Hitrai is like a young Dragonhawk with a broken wing. Too young, to injured to even survive, yet still holding on to his honor with ferious tenacity even as his body starves.

History:

Epilogue:

Hitrai Valkarian was born to the Clan Valkarian to two high ranking warriors. When he was a very small child, however, an altercation caused his father to be killed and for he and his mother to be separated from their clan. His mother was a resourceful woman, proud and still strong, so she put aside her grief for her fallen mate and managed to get herself and her infant to Corsucant. To survive, Hitaryu Valkarian got a job as a bodyguard to a high ranking gang leader.

Even though she was cut off from her Clan, Hitaryu continued to teach her son about the Mandalorian way. Even though he grew up away from other Mandalorians, Rai learned all the same lessons and stories as his fellows did. When he turned 13, instead of sending him out to the ceremonial hunt for his coming of age ceremony, Hitaryu sent her son in her place to guard the Gang Leader during a dangerous assignment. The leader was injured, but due to Rai's enormous efforts to attempt to save him, it was considered a sucess.

However, these times were not to last. Suddently, and with very little reason, Hitaryu was struck down by a sudden fever and was incapacitated, leaving her unable to work. Though she had stashed some cash away, most of her money was held in the local bank. However, a prominant crime lord is not noted for his loyalty or generosity. Hitaryu's employer took her money and claimed it was his by right, due to the injuries that he received.

Once his mother had recovered slightly, Hitrai and Hitaryu went to court to decide who really owned the funds. There, a Jedi was asked to step in and mediate. In the end, the Jedi, who was supposed to protect the interests of the right party, agreed with the crime lord that indeed, it was his money.

Furious, but unable to do anything about it, Rai and his mother have been living off what little they can scrounge up. Hitaryu, with her illness, is unable to work. Hitrai tried to get a job as a bodyguard or bouncer, but no one like that would employ a boy this young, even if he was a Mandalorian.

However, Rai is strong, so he works at the docks to not only pay for their tiny, one bedroom apartment, but enough to pay for his mother's treatment. Needless to say, Rai is between a rock and a hard place.

Chapter 1: Experience is the Greatest Teacher

Hitrai finally revealed to his mother that he was working at the docks to make enough money to support them, and was pleasantly suprised to find that his mother had already bought them tickets to go somewhere to train.

Finally, Hitrai might get the chance to become the warrior he had always longed to become, and despite Hitrayu's assurances that she can take care of herself, Hitrai still is going to keep an eye on her so she doesn't get in over her head...
