Hieronymus (Hiero or Dru among friends) has never quite lived up to the image of a Jedi people imagine when they think of the heroes of galactic folklore.

He's got the quiet intensity, the brooding thousand yard stare, the lightsaber, and some who knew him back in his earlier Padawan days recall that there was even a time when -- shudder -- he sported the traditional braid. That in particular is a time best forgotten.

Otherwise he is completely lacking in the qualities of the philosopher monks: not one among his acquaintances have seen him in their customary robes, or heard him reference a tenet from the Jedi Code.

No, in his worn brown overcoat and tired formalwear, fond of chain-smoking handrolled tabac and as wont to be found in the local cantina as anywhere else, Hieronymus is a troubling figure among the Jedi.

You would never guess his lineage traces back to Tionese royalty, even the sort that actually derives from pirate stock and won their titles in blood and conquest during Xer VIII's uprising when galactic civilization itself was still in its cradle.

Of course, back in the Cluster there's a pertinent aphorism: twenty-five thousand years has a way of turning a family tree into a forest. So it's all relative anyway. The fact of the matter is that Hieronymus has led a long life of not quite fitting in anywhere.

From an early age, he chafed at the haughtiness of his family and generally feudal social climate of the Tion Cluster, and so arrived on Yavin IV with great hope that he would find a place for himself among the Jedi.

The rebellious streak he developed back in the Cluster made him a rough fit among the other apprentices, the odd boy from the Outer Rim prone to cursing in Huttese when he grew frustrated at his progress, no matter how quick.

Hieronymus performed well in his lessons, but during periods intended for recreation with fellow Padawans at the Praxeum became fond of wandering out into the rainforest near the temple, a landscape much like the sprawling forests of his homeworld.

He eventually outgrew this antisocial phase, but certain aspects of his personality have never quite become cohesive with the Jedi mold.

During the years cloistered away as a youngling in the Jedi Temple, Hieronymus proved competent in areas of more quantitative inquiry, for a time entertaining the thought that he might go down the path of the keepers of the archives and dedicate himself to research and the cultivation of his intellect.

Specializing in the areas of xenobiology and xenoarchaeology, for awhile these pursuits occupied him alongside his duties as a Padawan. The ossified bureaucracy of Jedi academia eventually proved every bit as inhospitable as the socially immobile Tionese Cluster.

Throughout those years his imagination grew steadily more ambitious on the tales and mythologies of the civilizations he studied, and gradually it became clear that he would never find himself - not on Yavin IV in the myriad halls of the archives, lost among stories of bygone eras; not even on his solitary sojourns through the rainforests around the temple.

Fearing that all too often his fellow Knights become blinded to the more mundane consequences of their actions, Hieronymus often finds himself engaging with the seedy underbelly of the galaxy: brokering peace between merc crews in exchange for the safe passage of a refugee caravan, infiltrating cartel-associated nightclubs to extract trafficking victims, the works. Places Jedi can't always reach in their robes and reciting the Code.

Hieronymus was a teenager and had been a Padawan for a few years when New Alderaan fell ten years ago. [current year: 162 ABY]

He and his master became involved in the war effort, missions taking them across the galaxy, mostly to help those affected by the devastation, but Hieronymus did not have the peaceful training of Padawans that join the Order in peacetime.

Eventually, he grew disillusioned with the cycle of violence he felt perpetuated by the cultish conflict of the Jedi and the Sith. This embitterment culminated three years ago during the Empire's breach of the ceasefire on Bastion and Dubrillion, where Dru's master lost their life in the evacuation attempt.

Assumed dead when he never reported back to the Council following his flight from the beautiful ocean world Dubrillion, Hieronymus has set out to find an answer to the questions and the darkness he has seen within himself following the death of his master. Forsaking Knighthood on the cusp of completing his apprenticeship, his journeys have taken him up the Gordian Reach down the Perlemian Way in pursuit of new meaning.

Eventually, however, Hieronymus has been forced to see that he can do far greater good among the Jedi than merely helping those left in the aftermath of their conflicts. Uncertain of his future, he has returned to the Jedi a grown man, one far more seasoned in the ways of the galaxy than he could have ever been sequestered in the temple library.

No I don't look eerily similar to Han Solo as if I were represented by another Harrison Ford character, I have no idea what you're talking about

Timeline of changes

- 29/4/2024 : edited his profile to reflect a lot of changes to his story; rather than rejoin the Jedi after New Alderaan (currently 10 years ago), this marked the start of his involvement in the war with his (yet unnamed) master, who died a few years ago during the assaults on Dubrillion and Bastion. De-aged him from 29 to 24, said he's still a Padawan that following this event went astray from the Order despite being on the cusp of Knighthood, and has recently returned.

It seems pointless to request a rank down, so IC I'm just going to go with the idea that he is formally a Padawan but years of experience loning it in the galaxy have him solidly at Knight level. I will probably reflect his lack of finalized training by having very strong fundamentals (telekinesis, telepathy, etc) with the Force but less advanced applications.
