Speaking of whether I have any questions or not: I do have but one. On the Sith Sign-Up board it says that one can start as a Sith, or an Acolythe. As I'm currently fleshing out the character I had in mind, I was wondering whether applying as an exiled/more or less out of action Sith Lord would also be an option?

I'm not a leading faction member, so I can't say for certain. But probably no. However, you can still have a really old and powerful character be just a regular sith, then earn a Darth title later.

@TheHook1 pretty much answered your question perfectly.

It won't take long to go from a rank and file Sith to a Lord though. Promotions are based largely on your contributions to the faction: i.e. - successfully completing missions and participating in major battles are the best ways to go about it.
