So the other day my laptop took a spill. I set it back up and it seemed to work ok, but now I'm almost certain the HD is failing/has failed.

I'll try to get it taken care of asap...depending on if ASUS has any certified repair shops that stock notebook hard drives around, I might be able to take care of it today...if not I might disappear for a few days while I wait for a hard drive to ship. Or I might get a netbook to tide me over, and I could take that places with me too...hmm...

Keep posting in my RPs! I live 7 blocks away from a library that allows two hours a day. Not as much time as everyone is used to, but something.

I suggest you try it again, Andreus, only this time let go of your conscious self and act on instinct.

:bitchez:bitchez FRIENDLY (SEMI) LOCAL COMPUTER REPAIR SHOPS :bitchez:bitchez

New HD, can haz. It's in my computer now. Shipping computer to factory, **** that shit. Replacement was $69, bracket to house old HD to see what data I can pull from it was $20.

I'm running a quick check-through of posts now while computer updates itself--should be fully back online within a couple hours or so.

The only way a laptop company will repair your laptop under warrantee is if you send it away.

A local repair place with A+ certified guys can fix it. If they charge you more than $200 for the repair you're being over-charged.

My computer is out of warranty, so there was no point in waiting for the computer to be shipped back and forth. Not at all.

ASUS has a certified repair shop program that they use to service their warranties on some of their computers. I looked up one of those certified shops. I won't be buying my next ASUS from Best Buy, because computers sold through them get the factory shipment hassle treatment. Next time, I'll just buy it through the repair shop I had pop the new HD in so I can get that prompt warranty service with just a bit of a drive...and they didn't even charge me labor for replacing the HD (ok...while I was there I spent $37.50 on labor to have them re-align my optical drive, as it had been bent out of alignment and hard to open the last two years).
