Black Claw, UNSC Cruiser in orbit over Reach
Cpl. McManus awoke to the sound of the morning tone, 0500 hours sharp. He slowly opened his eyes and sat up. His eyes were still heavy with sleep, as he rubbed them with his rough hands. He sat on the edge of his cot and tensed as his feet touched to cold floor. He leaned side to side, cracking his back, then stood up. He walked sleepily over to his port hole to see the view. He saw the other ODST in his room get up and ready. He reached the small window and peered through and saw they had reached their objective. Reach. Except this wasn't the Reach that McManus had seen before, this was a war torn and partially glassed over wasteland.
"Attention! All ODST report to breifing room and prepare for pre-deployment breifing!" The words blasted through the ships PA systems. McManus walked to his footlocker and put on his BDU and his cover, the armor could wait. He walked out of the room and down the hall with the rest of his unit. They reached the breifing room and walked inside and all took a seat in front of their C.O., Major Killborne. McManus sat down and settled in as best he could into the hard chair, it was going to be a long breifing."
