I don't have the link for the full news article, but a guard at Buckingham palace pointed his weapon at a man trying to force his way through the palace gates

It's telling that in England, a guard pointing his gun at someone is news worthy.

That's not a knock against the UK either. It's just that, here in the States that wouldn't even make local news unless the guard went berserk and gunned down a dozen people.

This happens a lot when we guard Stockholm Castle also. Not that we have to point our guns at people, but people being assholes. They seem to think that just because you wear a fancy uniform you're a tourist attraction standing there for their entertainment, and not a guard with a loaded weapon carrying out a serious guard assignment which could possibly entail having to use deadly force. I think what it boils down to in the end is, more than that people are idiots... tourists are idiots.

I think a hose would be over kill. TBH you could probably just use a spray bottle and it'd work. He'd have stormed off in a huff to tweet about being oppressed by the violence inherent in the system or some other trite.
