Harr Gantha was born on Giju to middle class parents who lived towards the southern polar reaches, and from that cold climate there came a relatively early escape. Sith Academies regularly comb the galaxy for Force Sensitive children and Harr was picked up at the age of eight and whisked away from everything the Hergling had ever known, and taken far away, to the other side of the galaxy. The Dark Side came easily to him, and he studied it diligently, but mainly because Harr knew that these Sith were cruel masters and would execute him if they detected doubt within him. So he threw himself into their teachings and studied for ten years under them until he reached the rank of Acolyte, learning ways to enhance his burly physique with the power of the Force, and some more flashy techniques like lightning. And then? He got the hell out of there! Sure, the Core was full of racists, but at least it wasn't filled with spooky maniacs. If he worked hard in the Republica at least he wouldn't be a slave to a sorcerer or some artifact of the Dark Side. He served diligently under the auspices of the Core worlds and grew mighty in power, working for Core interests operating in Imperial Hutta. He remained content to be a follower in the name of order and his own self-interest. One of his commanders during his seconding to the Imperial Army had noticed the way that Harr seemed to smile when given morally difficult commands to follow and dubbed him with a nickname that had followed Harr since his early career, and that, all things considered, he didn't mind:
Grimace.
When the Old Empire decided to rebel against the new Emperor, Grimace had no doubts about where his loyalties would lie, especially with the more plural Imperial Hutta prefecture politically siding with Emperor Elix. Better the young man who seemed competent than the forces of an old man who lead brutal religious psychopaths. He found a niche operating as a modular, deniable Force adept, specialized at not looking like a Sith until his lightsabers were drawn.
