I have an Acer Aspire laptop:
(Dualcore, HD Intel Graphics Card (the **** is this shit), 4 gigs of Ram and a 700 gig hard drive.)

I didn't buy it intending to use it for playing games, but I downloaded Amnesia via torrent, and shit doesn't work (wasn't really surprised that it wouldn't work, but still).

Still wouldn't work on the desktop (Sony VAIO stand alone).
Vista has significantly ****ed this desktop so I only really use it if I'm downstairs.

So, I'm thinking about updating my graphics card and I know absolutely nothing about this stuff. ALL I WANT TO DO IS PLAY AMNESIA DAMN IT.

What's a decently priced option? What would you guys recommend? I don't want to blow a whole bunch of money just to play this ****ing game, but it's something I want to invest in anyways.

I still need to sell a bunch of my dad's stuff, so if I fall into some money I am going to upgrade the shit out of this laptop.

I suggest you try it again, Endling, only this time let go of your conscious self and act on instinct.

My computer started out at a Dell PC, put in more memory, replaced the video card, and the power supply after my video card fried. That ran me about two hundred and fifty. I shelled out a little extra, you can probably get a decent video card in the $50-100 area, or whatever currency you use.

Started XP Media Center Edition, then had Vista, never understood why I made the switch. I have 7 now so it runs pretty good now.

It is about four or five years old, and the replacements stuff was done about two years ago.

This computer should last me until I get my own place, then I will leave it for the folks.

Graphics card for the PC or the Laptop?

Laptop graphics cards are more pain than they're worth to install.

I swear to god, Bac.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I'll look into this, and I'll probably bring the laptop in and have the card installed, no way in hell I'd be able to do it myself.

Oh, you can upgrade some laptop graphics cards, but it is very difficult and as was mentioned, is too expensive and too much of a hassle to be worth it.

I had a laptop as my first computer, then got a PC because I wanted the ability to upgrade it and a bigger monitor.

You probably shouldn't game on a laptop - if you buy the top of the line laptop, it will be good for gaming for a period of time, then you need to refresh. Also, modding it can cause heating problems as there aren't many creative things you can do with heating on a laptop.

I would go with a desktop computer, and if you know how, it is cheaper to build one yourself, and better because you can put exactly what you want in it. Be mindful of cooling, and with all of the quad core (and hexacore) CPUs out there, I would definitely get an aftermarket heatsink for the CPU.

With regards to the GPU, be mindful of the resolution/monitor size which you are using. The top of the line video card is complete overkill and a waste of money for smaller monitors.
