DESCRIPTION​

The Gorath Janteel-class galleon is a common pattern of modifications made to Rendili StarDrive's Gorath-class bulk freighters. The name Janteel comes from a trader's argot term which roughly translates in Basic to "fop" or "dandy," and the craft is usually outwardly similar in appearance to the regular Gorath. This is often intentional, allowing the ship to nominally blend in with regular traffic, although a cursory sensor scan or even more than casual visual inspection can usually spot the modifications made to the vessel.

The Janteel sacrifices roughly half its cargo space for additional weapons, a larger crew, more passenger accommodations and an enlarged hangar. The weapons include a quartet of dual light laser turrets, better suited for use against starfighters, as well as a pair of medium laser turrets, and a tractor beam emitter for snaring vessels attempting to flee. The necessary crew has been increased to 7, with an optimum compliment of 21; passenger capacity has been tripled to 30. The ship's hangar has been enlarged and to accommodate a quartet of starfighters in addition to the single shuttle, and has had its entrance modified to facilitate more timely launch and recovery operations for small craft.

The Janteel, though more than a match for its usual prey of commercial cargo haulers and passenger liners, is hardly equipped to go up against most military-grade spacecraft. The advised tactic for captains faced with an Imperial Judiciary Fleet corvette is to run.

The Janteel Gorath-class galleon is found almost exclusively in the service of various outlaws. They are typically built at unlicensed shipyards operated by pirates and gangsters, and are typically found in service to the same, although they are also occasionally found in the hands of rebel groups fighting the Sith. They tend not to be seen in reputable spaceports, regardless.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Gorath Janteel-class galleons, besides being legally considered capital ships (though they are technically just armed freighters) due to their size and weaponry, are universally the result of unlicensed modifications performed on often stolen or illegally salvaged vessels. They tend not to be owned by single individuals, either, certainly not law-abiding ones. Not to mention that the modifications almost certainly break the manufacturer's warranty.
