DESCRIPTION
The G8-series geomech is a mining and geology automaton manufactured by the Karflo Corporation. Representative of the "geomech" category of droids, the G8 is not much more than a box on wheels, but is specialized for subterranean mining applications such as the operation and maintenance of heavy drilling and ore processing equipment. As such, it is a popular offering from Karflo, and is widely considered to be one of the sturdiest small droids currently in production.

The G8 stands 1.4 meters in height, and has a high-impact plasteel casing, housing a number of specialized tools including a mineral-detecting geoscanner, a measuring scanner for determining tunnel dimensions, a sonar scanner for navigating in the dark, and even a small laserdrill for boring through rock, effective out to a range of 5 meters. It has other standard astromech tools and sensors as well.

Notably, the G8's heavy-duty plasteel hull is capable of taking enormous punishment; they can survive impact and pressure of up to 5 standard tons, and are able to resist light blaster fire. They are, however, slower and more ponderous than many other droids, with motivators and servos geared more for torque than speed.

G8-series geomechs are employed in mining operations throughout the Galaxy.

LEGALITY
Legal. Geomech droids such as the G8 are permitted in most regions of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To create a standard geomech droid, creating another category of "'mech" droids.
