Sarnai sneezed as she walked through the darkness. Level 1312 wasn't usually this dark or this dank. Unfortunately, today was neither a normal day nor a good day for the detective. A massive pipeline had burst, raining down on tens of thousands of homes and businesses. Thankfully, automated droids created just for such emergencies quickly slapped a temporary seal on the pipeline, limiting damage. But an entire apartment block that had never been build against a sudden and torrential downpour of rain had been nearly flooded.
Specifically, Sarnai's apartment block had been flooded. Now, as droids and maintenance men alike worked to clean up the excess water before too much evaporated, the red headed woman was blessed with an extremely humid atmosphere in which to investigate a murder. Apparently killers couldn't leave anything well enough alone even during water emergencies. Groaning, she stopped outside of a small cafe and ordered a small cup of hot caf. The victim was some middling management worker that handled relations with the New Republic Navy recruiting office and and the officer academy. Apparently, he was the man who made the cuts in deciding who got to be an officer and who was sent to work on more menial positions.
Sarnai thanked the Devaronian man who handed her the caf, paying him before continuing her walk towards the crime site. Her mind already racing with possible suspects. A random attack was never out of the question, of course, as 1312 wasn't exactly a safe level to live on. But more likely a disgruntled cadet who didn't get the position he wanted would be the culprit. Speaking of cadets, a naval officer was to accompany Sarnai on this case as a consultant. The detective had not been briefed on who exactly would be joining her, but a safe assumption would be an officer of some sorts.
Police lights illuminated the street ahead of her, their blue and red flashing seen far before the droids and officers would come into view. The scene itself had been completely blocked off with large plasteel panels, obscuring views from any onlookers on the street. Flashing her badge at the first line of defense, a handful of officers keeping everyone else out of the cordoned off area, she was quietly let inside. Her curiosity at the strange silence of her comrades was quickly stifled as she entered the scene.
Her comrades and peers were often jovial types, making jokes even at the darkest times, but the starkly horrifying scene in front of Sarnai explained their sudden bout of somber attitude. The middle management worker, an officer of the navy himself by the name of Jureg Dun, had been mutilated and 'put on display' as some sort of sick art piece. Sarnai let out a deep sigh as she observed the site, reaching out and gently touching the man's lapel for but a moment before recoiling away. The sheer amount of pain, suffering, and darkness surrounding every item of this scene wasintoxicating too much for Sarnai to handle with her abilities.
Another officer coughed behind her, attempting to get Sarnai's attention, "Ma'am, your, uh, consultant is outside. Do you want to go out and get her?"
Sarnai, flashing the man, Yesha Barouk, a confused look, responded perhaps a little too quickly and a little too sharply. "Go outside and greet her, Yesha? Allow her entrance inside! Whoever they are, they need to observe this scene with their own eyes." Yesha was a kind, older officer with a nice retirement around the corner, he didn't really deserve Sarnai's annoyance. However, the detective was having trouble keeping her usual composure. The other officers in the room and forensic workers turned away in an attempt to not exacerbate the situation.
