It might sound really weird, but it makes sense.

Yeah, it makes sense but that's like telling people not to smile for their passports so that they can catch the terrorists.

It's not like you're going to be showing your driver's licenses and passports to all of your friends and family to show off your beautiful smiles.

True, true. But if you do then people will be like, "aww why are you not smiling..." xD

I'm not allowed to smile for my passport pictures... Dunno if it's a law but I was told not to when I got it.

Think about the situations you'll be using them in, mostly, it wont be one you'll be smiling in. It's a law that does make sense.

Though admittedly, moreso for passports than for a driving license.

Indeed it would be more effective for passports. But, hey, news like this is worth informing.

I think this is good. Hopefully California will pass it. I've never smiled in my License/State ID/School ID.

True, true. But if you do then people will be like, "aww why are you not smiling..." xD
I really hate it when they do that... It's a card, not a portrait. -_-

Lol, no the whole 'cool face' thing wasn't even known to me at the time. That was just a day to be lazy.

(For the sake of our younger comrades, I am making my message here subtle Mulluns... read between the lines!)

This makes a lot of sense. If you're giving your license to a cop, or someone at a convenient store for cigarettes or a liquor store for alcohol, you're probably not going to be smiling, especially if you've been pulled over by a cop. If you just look normal in your license picture, the person looking at your I.D. can be more certain that it's really you.
