For the best (Solen's training)

[The Gloaming]

Solen brushed the Force push aside with his left hand, and brought it to a two hand grip on his lightsaber. Taking two large steps toward Haven, he twirled the lightsaber in an x shape towards her, stepping forward all the while. He the used Force speed to strike at her head, then her neck. Keep it unpredictable. The following attacks came from all directions, Solen was spinning around to follow through with the swing of his blade, looking for vital breaks in his master's defenses.

 

[Garuga]

Haven switched to a two handed grip on her lightsaber, and immediately entered her defensive motions. She spun the lightsaber with two hands while keeping her footing light, and two blue blades formed near-constant bisecting cuts in front of her, matching the initial flurry of Solen's attacks. She stepped backwards, allowing Solen to press the attack. Haven detected the small burst of force Solen applied, and she changed her footing to allow for a more versatile stance.

She blocked the first blow towards her neck straight on, and spun the blade immediately to block the second directed at her neck. Time to make him defend... Haven thought to herself, as she adopted a different motion. Matching Solen's next flurry, she stepped back and only let the lightsabers clash for the briefest of moments before driving her footing forward to counter attack when Solen retracted his lightsaber. With a stutter step, she reversed her lightsaber and dealt a horizontal slash across Solen's midsection as he prepared for his next blow.

 

[The Gloaming]

With his senses heightened, Solen could see the blue blade approaching his midsection. Bringing his blade upward, the two lightsabers clashed, and a dizzying spectrum of energy rang forth. Pushing Haven's blade back, Solen swiped across her stomach, hoping for a hit. His attack was, however, to no avail, as she effortlessly dodged the strike, and made one of her own. Solen had a harder time blocking this one, holding the approaching blade away from his head. Thinking fast, Solen stepped to the right, directing Haven's lightsaber to the left and onto the ground. He then twisted his own blade, and attacked her seemingly defenseless torso.

 

[Garuga]

"Good move!" Haven shouted as Solen made his attack. It was a good attack, too swift for a conventional retreat with the feet, and high enough to hit if she jumped. It was by all means, normally a more than likely 'finishing' attack. Haven smiled. But you are not quite there yet...

As the tip of her lightsaber was struck so that it was pointing towards the ground, instead of moving backwards, Haven slumped forward as though as if she was 'melting' towards the floor.

As she passed the electric yellow lightsaber, she brought the left blade of her lightsaber in a quick, much faster sweep, looking to catch Solen's knees or shin. As Haven neared the ground, she held her right hand out to immediately propel herself off the floor with a force push, sending her flying right at Solen. She struck out with her left boot, directing a force push into Solen's back if she made contact.

Haven's response was so sudden, Solen hadn't time to comprehend her elaborate move, let alone react to it. The next thing he knew, he was flying through the air. Pulling himself towards the ceiling, Solen clung to a light fixture. Turning to look at his master, he leaped off the light fixture, and flew down towards her, pushing himself off the wall. Solen attempted the move that had recently shorted his lightsaber out, pointing the blade towards the ground, slamming down with the Force. A large yellow shock wave lashed out around him, brimming with electricity. Come on, please work... Solen looked down at his lightsaber, which was still functioning at full capacity.

 

[Garuga]

Once her kick had connected, Haven had stood up right. She held out her hands and lightsaber in an adaptive stance, wanting to see what Solen would come up with. As ever, he hadn't dissapointed her. Haven apllied the very ability she had spent yesterday teaching him, her eyes closed and her mouth curled into a smile as the protective bubble formed swiftly around. The electrical discharge and the force shock wave struck the protection bubble, causing an audible resounding clash.

Several of the jedi training in the room turned around to look at the 'commotion'. Haven opened her eyes and the protective bubble dissapeared. "Interesting manoeuvre there!" She said happily. "Do you wish to continue, or should we do something else?"

 

[The Gloaming]

"I suppose I don't mind what we do, there's no chance I'll beat you in sparring." Solen truly believed this, but he also realized he would have plenty of opportunity to learn on his coming mission. Sitting on a bench nearby, He rested his arms and legs, and focused on the sparring match, going through the moves and analyzing what he did wrong.

"I'm beginning to really understand this form, it's movements. I need to push the attack, but I also need to sense my opponents movements better." In fact, Solen had been applying this technique in hand to hand sparring matches with the other students.

 

[Garuga]

"I'm happy to hear that, it's good to know that you are a diligent student." Haven replied. She walked over to the bench and plopped down next to him. "For this upcoming mission, there is something I want to talk to you about first." She said in a more serious tone.

"I don't know if you have killed another sentient being before." Haven said, looking downwards. She thought about the possible dangers that could arise, and found that she was in fact fairly nervous. "But there will be a lot of question marks regarding it, and, to be honest I am quite nervous seeing as I haven't been on a Jedi assignment for 6 years".

She laughed nervously. "I know you as a Padawan won't like hearing this, but in truth completing this mission will be as much of an affirmation for you as well as me."

 

[The Gloaming]

"To be honest, I'm just relieved I'm not the only one who's nervous. I'm not afraid I won't succeed, but that in my succession, I might view...certain traps more like opportunities, if you know what I mean. I've been meditating a lot about it, going over it in my head. I've never killed any sentient being before, but I understand that I need to uphold justice and peace. Sometimes, that means acting on decisions I will never bring myself to like. On Kashyyyk, in the crystal cave, I had a vision, that I would destroy many people. I think there was a dark presence in that cave, something that tried to corrupt me, although I've never even been tempted."

That day came rushing back into Solen's mind, he enjoyed hunting the katarn, but he didn't enjoy killing it. It was simply a meal he had to work for, but he hoped that allowance wouldn't dull the line between survival and murder.

 

[Garuga]

Haven nodded. "The temptation... The darkside." She said, sighing. "Only once have I touched it, and only once do I need to know that it's not the path I wish for anyone to tread."

She remembered it's power. The scream that resounded throughout her mind when she used the anger. "I've killed many in my short existence. Some justified, some perhaps not. Nevertheless, the one time my darkness took hold of me I revelled in it. It bathed me in it's light, and I used it."

Haven paused for a moment, remembering the events. "I recovered, and thankfully I regained my senses." She said wistfully at Solen. "It's a temptation the best of us will have to resist, and believe me, I'm not the best of us".

 

[The Gloaming]

"Well, I expect we can keep tabs on each other." There was a slight laugh in Solen's voice as he attempted to divert the depressing conversation. "So, what will our mission involve?" Altering the course of their discussion helped, he really was focused on the mission now.

Solen was excited to do the mission, but more so to become a knight. This would allow his apprenticeship to end, and friendship as Haven's equal to begin.

 

[Garuga]

"I'm not overly certain yet, but it will most likely be on the planet of Ryloth. The matters of the mission are not specified yet, but... It will certainly be a challenge." Haven replied. "But I would say that it would definitely involve the underground world. Drugs, slavery and the like."

During her time away from the Jedi, Haven had seen much of those kind of affairs. The Hutt empire's influence on the galaxy was more than visible...

 

[The Gloaming]

"Ah, the underground. I learned a little bit about that, but not first hand. It will definitely be interesting. Ryloth was a planet Solen hoped to see, the terrain would probably remind him of home. The padawans strewn about the room continued to practice for some while, and Solen lost himself in the different fighting methods they were using. Solen was the kind of person who could learn by watching.

"Understand it or not, we are leaving soon! Haven happily said. "Go back to your quarters and grab whatever you need." Haven stood up and walked a few meters away.

"Meet me in the landing bay in 15 minutes" She said, turning her head back slightly. She had some matters to attend to...

Solen stepped onto the metal floor of the Jedi hangar. It was as cold as he'd remembered. "So, what's next?" Slow and seemingly unsure, Solen uttered the question in a familiar tone. He was still tired, and he tried not to focus on the dark vision. The padawan's head dropped toward a glint from his belt. "I think I'll stick with the single balded lightsaber."

 

[Garuga]

Haven nodded. It was his own choice to make regarding what lightsaber to construct, but Haven needed to talk about the dark side presence before she could officialy send him on his way to become a knight. Having stepped off the ship, she walked towards Solen, and asked him to accompany her back to the clearing where they had trained beforehand. It might be better to talk in a familiar location.

Once they had caught their breathe and the sort, Haven turned to Solen. "You have done well. The mission tested many facets of your skill as well as your own character. I am pleased to say that you did not dissapoint me one bit." She began, perhaps a little more formal compared to her normal tone of voice. Haven looked intently at Solen, what she was about to say was obvious.

"What happened Solen?" Haven whispered gravely. "Say the truth only, for these such matters a Jedi cannot decieve anyone."

 

[The Gloaming]

"It was me, or a... possible future. He was faster, stronger, and the Dark Side made him better...but...He was scarred in the Force. His pain was evident in the way he talked. I think I just kneed to work on controlling my emotions." Everything Solen said was true, but he still had doubts.

 

[Garuga]

"Then you are ready." Haven smiled warmly. By admitting his weakness, Solen had passed the final test. She raised her hand to his head, snapping off his Padawan braid cleanly with the force. The strand of hair fell to the floor, signifying Solen's official indication into the Jedi Order as a Knight. Haven let her eyes drop to the floor, her smile still there but perhaps a little sad. Solen was her first ever Padawan, and now he was to leave her.

"I talked about letting go before we started our mission, and now it's my turn to learn." She said, finally settling the trouble matters in her mind. "Don't forget about me now that you are independent!" Haven laughed, her humour returning.
