A member of the Eclipse cell agrees to meet the authorities. He specifically requested the negotiator to come alone. The task force plans to capture the insurgent. They are tasked to cut a deal. Or do it the hard way.

Capturing an insurgent wasn't anything new to Tomic and he had even done a few interrogations of said insurgents but this set up was new. The insurgent in question was a member of a mercenary band of some kind, a rather well funded kind, and actually had no ties to the Galactic Alliance as far as he knew.

There was still a Galactic Alliance (or Rebel) presence in this investigation today but it was actually in the form of someone who was actually going to be assisting him. Tomic was... cautious to say the least.

"Alright, the merc is coming and he thinks he's meeting one of us alone." he summed up before tapping his armoured chest, "I'm going to be the bait as the 'negotiator'. When we're sure that he's come alone, you down ambush him and down him."

He held up a small radio he had ready to go.

"When that's done, we get him into the speeder we have on standby, transfer him to the warehouse and get to work until we have what he need." he paused before adding, "Well... that's my plan. You got one you'd rather use?"

Never going to be a better chance to see GA operational thinking than in the field after all.

Elix' only personal contact with the Empire so far had been the hit squad send after him on Shu-Torun, so when he was tasked to work with an Imperial to get sensitive information he was.. well, what's the word.. unconvinced. On Shu-Torun the Empire had wildly tossed grenades around in an ancestral palace that had been a safe place for countless of generations, disregarding any means of subtlety or intelligent thought.

It was fair to say that when the Imperial he was working with today tabbed his own armored chest to identify him as the negotiator... the man in full armor.. that Elix experienced somewhat of a deja-vu. Imperials were too thick for words.

His own armor was covered in typical local fashion, though a bit worn-down to suggest he's had it for a couple of years, thus he blended in perfectly with the crowd. The quick-draw he looted from a downed Sith was hidden on the small of his back; easy to draw but hard to notice. "Typical for an Imperial to negotiate in armor-" he shook his head, "-just keep our line open-" he was referring to their comm line that allowed them to hear even each other's whispers at twenty meters away, "-and tell me once you've identified him."

Elix would make sure he wasn't identified as a member of the task force. That much was easy for a rebel and so the forty-something Czerka employee walked away from Tomic to make sure no one would think they were together.

Tomic raised an eyebrow but it was a motion hidden by his helmet. This rebel was... well he was kind of what he expected from a rebel if he was being honest. He looked shady. He probably had more illegal meetings and backroom deals that Tomic had birthdays if he was being honest with himself. If there was a diagram of what a typical rebel looked like then it was the underworld jack of all traits that was Elix Lorso.

"Typical for any smart man to negotiate with an armed mercenary in armour." he reasoned with a small shrug before nodding a little bit, "I'll hold off until you're in position."

No reason to be too antagonistic.

Yet.

The man was sketchy but this was a sketchy kind of 'deal' so he was willing to bet that Elix had more experience in the matter than he did. And he was here to gain insights into how the rebel thought and operated right? What better way of doing that than going along with how Elix wanted the plan to go?

With the older man gone, Tomic moved over to the point he was supposed to wait at to meet the negotiator. He was able to see the comings and going of a lot of people and he was early. So, leaning up against the wall, he spoke to Elix as he got into position himself.

"You're pretty old for a rebel." he noted conversationally, "Is this like a mid-life crisis for you or something?"

Elix was already not a big fan of working together with an Imperial agent. Perhaps it was the youthful arrogance or perhaps it was simply the fact Imperial Command apparently send men who behaved like teenagers to do the negotiating. What? Did everyone experienced enough die already in skirmishes with the alliance or the Mandalorians? Ofcourse, Elix didn't know that the guy underneath the helmet was actually a teenager, which was really the only reason he hadn't taken up the mantle of negotiator himself.

"Not a mid-life crisis," he said casually as he took up position near a take-away Su'shi place, "-just never met an Imperial capable enough to kill me." and while he actually wasn't a long-time rebel, having been roped into the cause by a Cathar rebel who performed a very -very- memorable Catharese love-knot, rebel groups were as old as the Empire itself. "By the way, if you're intent on small talk, just call me Spectre." Elix wasn't about to reveal his real name to the Imperial and knew he looked rather unremarkable as a male human.. so he figured it'd be nigh impossible to track him down in a galaxy of trillions.

He hadn't said it or a female human wearing Brutus Assault Armor with the Eclipse logo started walking towards the armor-clad Imperial. Elix was quick to spot the dual quick-draw pistols on both her hips and while his eyes lingered a bit as he appraised her figure, the forty-something was smart enough to not get noticed checking her out. Saying something to the Quarren behind the Su'shi bar, Elix appeared preoccupied with his order before turning his head slightly to scan the area behind the merc. "No visual on potential back-up"

It wasn't a midlife crisis but he was supposed to call the man... wait what?

"I'm not calling you that." he responded bluntly, "It sounds like the gamer-tag of an immature thirteen year old who wants to sound edgy."

Spectre.

Really?

It was a cool word but it just struct Tomic as being rather try-hardy. He supposed there was likely a whole Galaxy of people who might be intimidated by such a name but Tomic honestly just thought it sounded kind of dumb. He hoped that the rebel had another code-name.

Preferably one that sounded like it was made by someone who had come out the other side of puberty.

Their contact was in Brutus Assault Armour huh? Well he supposed the mercenary had come armed to the nth degree as well because she was concerned as well. That and she likely thought that she could intimidate whoever she was meeting, at least in some small way, just by appearing in the heavy armour. Even Tomic would admit that it caused him to change how he was standing as she approached.

He didn't respond to Elix at all, instead choosing to greet the negotiator with the pass phrase.

"Lovely day but I hear it's warmer on Alderaan."

The woman eyed him for a moment before nodding once.

"Heat wave - what can you do?"
she shrugged once before eyeing Tomic, "You're armed."

Tomic raised an eyebrow behind his helmet.

"As are you."

There was a tense moment of silence before the negotiator gestured for Tomic to follow her as she began to walk away. Apparently she didn't trust that he was alone because she was leading him away from any of the more convenient choke points in the busy streets of the Onderonian city.

What the kriff. Elix was sure that Imperial Military College was a strict place and their intelligence apparatus was filled with codenames, not to mention their Darths. Why then did this Imperial negotiator behave like Elix's own bratty teenage son? Imperial brainwashing should've kicked that out of him.

The Empire sure had fallen deep.

When Tomic and the informant exchanged pass phrases, Elix stayed put. When the informant walked away with the intent to be followed by the Imperial, Elix also stayed put. "If she has more eyes I didn't make, then me following would blow the whole op. I'll meet you at the warehouse" he whispered into his comm. Truthfully, he probably could make it happen but considering the Imperial was an unprofessional brat who reminded an estranged father of his annoying bratty son, Elix just preferred eating at this Su'shi bar.

Elix pointed at a holographic picture of noodle soup and some seaweed rolled Chandrilan fish. "These look delicious, Ming." While he waited for his food he took his datapad from his pocket and wrote up a rapport about the task-force and the Imperial brat just in case he'd ever need it.

Tomic wasn't going to enjoy this part of the mission.

Going in without any overwatch didn't sit well with him from a tactical standpoint because he honestly trusted the mercenary woman about as far as he could throw her. Some of it was an innate dislike for mercenaries and some of it was the simple honest truth; getting the target away from any set up overwatch was exactly what he would do if he was going to end up killing someone.

Gods damn his paranoia and his own willingness to kill - it made judging what other people viewed as prudent action rather difficult it had to be said.

He followed as non-verbally instructed.

"I trust you came alone at least."
the mercenary declared, eyeing him for a moment as they approached the warehouse, "If you're preparing to screw me, Imp, I'll cut your balls off."

Charming.

"I'm all by myself." he told her. He knew he sounded honest because, honestly, he thought he might as well actually be alone. Elix wasn't going to put himself out to save him if shite hit the fan after all - they weren't together so much as their endgames happened to be the same after all, "I assume you have some... conditions for your co-operation? An initial price?"

The woman scoffed.

"No talking price yet."

As they arrived at the warehouse, Tomic sighed as two more Elcipse mercs stepped out from behind cover with himself in their sights. He raised his hands to keep them from his own guns.

"Two little minions as well... they so I behave myself?"

Not exactly a subtle way to tell Elix the numbers but nothing too bad.

There were several things going around in Elix' head. For starters, he wondered whether or not Onderon would have a brothel featuring someone capable of performing a Catharese love-knot. That would do wonders to release him from all the stress he'd been working up lately. Then he mused on first visiting a local spice dealer and buying some Glitterdust, you know, to spice up the mood in case there wasn't a Cathar in the place. While he thought of those two things he couldn't help but praise the noodle soup to Ming, the Mon Cal su'shi vendor, and press him a bit for the recipe as if he'd be good enough of a cook to ever prepare it himself, which he wasn't in the slightest. I guess all the way at the bottom of his thought-list came the situation that juvenile Imperial put himself in.

Elix knew too little to find him. Perhaps if he had giving descriptions of the buildings and streets he passed while en route under the guise of maintaining some form of small-talk, then the rebel would've been able to trace his steps. Now? Now he only knew that apparently the so-called rat had set up a trap by bringing more goons. Kriff, seemed like Eclipse was far brighter than command gave them credit for. Sniffing out members of a task-force with fake rats was an excellent tactic.

"This was delicious, Ming-" the forty-something human said as he finished his last bite and shoved the bowl gently away from him. "-text me the recipe when you change your mind."

Walking into the general direction that the assault armor wearing female and the Imperial brat walked off to before, Elix made the effort to take his datapad out of his pocket and type up some messages that contained a log of the mission so far.

Perhaps they were lucky that two fully armored individuals walked slower through a crowd than one in plain clothes that was trying to catch up to them, but after taking a wrong turn somewhere and climbing two flights of stairs following a sign about a betting hall bordering the warehouse district, Elix somehow got his eyes on the Imperial and the three Eclipse members. They were about forty meters away still and the streets between them were hardly deserted, forcing Elix to admit that it was impossible for him to intervene just yet.

Gods be damned but he didn't think Elix was going to be getting him out of this one. The merc had led him a little bit further away than he expected and he hadn't thought it a good idea to comment on their route as they moved.

Now?

Well he hoped she wasn't the paranoid type. He lowered his hands, placing them on his hips... his right hand covered the top half of one of his concussion grenades 'by accident'.

"You do know we're only a single street off from the main road right?" he pushed her, "I don't think any level of blaster fire is going to go unnoticed when we're off an alley from Terizaki's noodle bar."

There was an awkward pause.

"... I'm not the only one who was dishonest, was I?" she taunted him, "Let me guess. You didn't tell your partner where you were going so now you need to find a way to get him over to you. You could have gone with something less obvious."

Tomic paused for a second before grimacing.

"No, that was just to get him close enough that he could hear the concussion grenade so he knows where we are."

With no further warning, Tomic dropped the concussion grenade he had been cooking at his side. Dropping the grenade from his belt, he dived to the side just as it hit the ground and detonated.

Even years later, Tomic would swear in the first few seconds he could taste colours. The only saving grace was that it was loud and the merc and her two guards were suffering just as badly as he was.

Elix watched as the Imperial and the Eclipse members suddenly all dropped to the ground amidst a flash of light and a loud bang. "Fool!" the rebel cried as he with his advanced age of forty-something jumped and climbed down as fast as he could, but he would always be slower than those curious faces on the main street still. He watched grief-stricken in his run that he was not the first to arrive on the scene.

"What in the deuces happened here!?" a young human said to his female companion, both native Onderonians and as such proud of their world. Heavily armed mercenaries and an Imperial-" his words trailed away as it hit him that if there ever was one instance where one should probably refrain from aiding heavily armed and armored individuals or groups, it was probably this one. He seemed then to have changed his mind quickly and as Elix approached from ten to two meters in a run, the man pushed his companion away and both set off for a run back to the main street.

Realizing how lucky they had been, seeing as no one further seemed so inclined to investigate the bang, Elix quickly moved to kick the female Eclipse member in the face before disarming her. "You've made a mess, Skyfall-" the rebel who had named himself Spectre for this affair said with a sigh directed at the Imperial operator. Drawing his quick-drawer pistol he fired twice to execute the two Eclipse mercenaries that were still fighting the effects of the unexpected flashbang and then turned towards the female, "-but I suppose her information could still save her life?"

It was very much possible that neither of the remaining recipients of the bang could hear him, for their ears would've gotten quite the blast, thus truly Elix did not expected an answer as he held the quick-draw aimed at the so-called informant.

Dear karking gods but he hated himself right now.

Rolling around on the ground wishing he had never been born for more than a little bit, Tomic gritted his teeth as the effects of the concussion grenade began to wear off enough for him to at least be able to see straight. That was a maybe plus point when you considered that he might very well need to be able to see to get the hell out of here.

He had been desperate to make sure his ally could locate him and it wasn't been a great move in... literally any other respect. He groaned pitifully as he pulled himself up to his knees. His ears were ringing but he was still mostly able to hear what Elix had said by some miracle.

"I don't think she's going to be in much of a state to talk..."

Was what he tried to say.

He was reasonably sure that what he actually said was a slurred version of that instead as he lurched to his feet to lean heavily against a wall to keep himself upright.

As expected the Imperial pitied himself as he lay on the ground, victim to his own flashbang, and where he had tried to be commanding before, had in contact with opposition to his plan, relinquished command in an instant. Elix was not impressed, thus, when the Imperial said the Eclipse informant wouldn't be able to hear or say anyway and knowing that security forces were undoubtly on their way, he made a decision.

"Then I'll just kill her and we find another way-" the seemingly heartless human shrugged and made an effort to make it seem like he was earnest, albeit slow, to shoot her in the face with his quick-draw. She had looked almost unconscious seconds before, unable to utter a coherent word, but when the pistol got pointed to her head she suddenly awoke; "No, wait!"

Naturally, a trained operative and evidenced by her willingness to be an informant also an individualist, the Eclipse mercenary had from instinct managed to defend from the flashbang to the same success as Tomic. Her attempt to be left for dead, however, failed.

She saw Elix halt, but with his finger still on the trigger and knew she had only one shot to survive. "They were just a precaution-" her head nodded towards her two dead friends while her eyes stayed fixed on Elix's blaster. "-we can still make a deal."

Elix smiled and the motioned towards the warehouse. "Let's get the bodies inside the warehouse and we'll talk."

Grunting, Tomic shook his head a little bit... it was a bad idea as it didn't 'clear' his head at all but the pain sharpened his senses for a moment. Grabbing a leg of each of the two guards, Tomic dragged them towards the warehouse. Thankfully it seemed that everyone around had suddenly found something better to do than to keep an eye out their windows.

He wasn't going to complain but he also wasn't going to bank on it lasting long enough for them to dawdle.

Pushing his way into the warehouse, he checked the inside quickly before dragging the corpses inside. Rather than have them cluttering up the area and intimidating the woman too much to talk however, Tomic brought them over to some shipping crates that seemed to be at least mostly empty.

Corpses folded up pretty well it seemed and Tomic was able to close the lid on the corpses, no doubt leaving them to be discovered by some poor warehouse worker in the future but far enough in the future that he and Elix wouldn't need to be worried about their discovery.

He wandered back over to Elix.

"Has she been co-operating?" He tutted slightly as he addressed her, "You really should co-operate. If you don't then I'm not sure what might happen to you..."

She paused and looked at him before turning to Elix.

"... is that a threat? You should really make sure the kid doesn't do the threats because they're weak."

... well balls.

Elix had held his pistol aimed at the Eclipse member as they made their way into the warehouse, where, for convenience's sake, he had motioned for her to sit down on the solitary chair that no doubt usually did its duty as bottom support for the lone guard of the building. A guard that seemed to be missing.. "Did you guys do something with the guard?" he asked her while Tomic was busy hiding her two dead friends from sight. She seemed indifferent to it, her friends and her whole situation when she just shrugged and said "Loose ends."

The Czerka-man wasn't sure how to think at this point. On one hand he admired her carelessness, for it was a great boon in their line of work, but on the other it seemed like she had completely lost the value of life as well, something that was an obvious liability for anyone operating under a command structure. As such, he remained silent until the Imperial returned and issued his threat. It was a bit unprofessional and clearly an effort that only a young man could make, thus was easily seen through by the more experienced of the three.

"... is that a threat? You should really make sure the kid doesn't do the threats because they're weak."

Kriff, Elix lowered his blaster to aim not at the face but her left knee as he sighed and shook his head. "Now you know why the Empire lost so much territory in the past few years," he smiled apologetically. He knew that a successful interrogation was all about patience and usually field operatives like Tomic and Elix would simply deliver people like her to experts in the art of extracting information. They didn't have the luxury here, seeing as their taskforce was neither Imperial nor Rebel and neither wanted to expose their experts to the enemy side.. that meant they didn't have many options..

"Tell you what-" Elix began, taking a credit chip from his pocket with his free hand, "-we'll go back to the original deal. Information for credits."

To his dread she merely shook her head, "I got two dead men and thanks to that flashbang also a target painted on me-" Kriff, ofcourse, even the Eclipse would manage to find out that a heavily armored female with their insignia was involved based on witness descriptions. Add that two of her buddies are missing and she'd be thrown before the Eclipse interrogation expert the moment she returned. "-so the original deal is off. I want ten times the credits or you get nothing."

This wasn't going very well.

His threats of bodily harm hadn't landed well and Elix didn't seem to be having much luck with the credits. The whole situation was, in a word, FUBAR. Tomic had been in some positions similar to this however so he didn't allow himself to panic. Instead he focused for a moment.

They wouldn't have been able to take her word on anything she told them. She would have had to have some form of proof of the validity of her information. If they were close to the subject of the data he could see her leading them to see it themselves but they weren't anywhere near the subject of the data.

Which means she would have had to bring evidence with her.

Moving forwards as she spoke to Elix, Tomic searched her again as if he was checking her over for any other weapons or traps. Without alerting her, he took the small datapad from where it was stored in one of the utility pouches at the back of her belt. Raising it so Elix could see it (but still behind the merc's back), Tomic booted up the device and was immediately stumped by a password lock.

Looking around, Tomic paused at the sight of her armour... or more accurately, the number printed on the right bicep of her armour. It was similar to dog tag numbers but shorter since there were far fewer Eclipse mercs than there were members of almost any armed forces in the Galaxy.

Couldn't be that easy could it?

He entered the code... and the datapad unlocked itself easily.

Shaking his head, Tomic held the datapad so that Elix could see that it was unlocked and he had pulled up the files of information she had been preparing to sell to them.

Elix had to give it to the kid as he tried not to pay too obvious attention to his successful hacking into the mercenary's datapad. Apparently he was better at the datapad stuff than he was in war, which figured, considering the younger generations usually are. With some time Elix was convinced he could break her, too, but something about her smugness rubbed him the wrong way.. "Why did you choose this warehouse?"

She grinned, "It's within my radius." It was an extremely odd thing to say.. as if she was wearing some kind of tracking...device..kriff.

"Tell me you got all we need on that thing-" Elix quickly directed his attention to Tomic, who would easily see the immediate worry shown in the forty-something's eyes, "-we have to leave, now." The Eclipse member wanted to cry out from laughter but then her face turned into a frown, "What thing?" her head turned to looked at Tomic and he eyes bulged from indignation and shock, "Hey, that's mine!"

As if on cue the door into the warehouse was breached and five Brutus Assault Armor wearing, Vorantikus Blaster Rifles holding mercenaries burst inside. These guys were better trained than the Onderon security officers and unfortunately for Elix and Tomic also far better equipped.

Thankfully for Tomic and Elix, he had, indeed, managed to find everything they needed to gather from the datapad. It was a good thing too because fate chose that exact moment to decide that they had been having it fair too good so far. The five mercenaries breaching the warehouse were...

Problematic.

Tomic fell back away from the breach, instinctively seeking cover from the heavily armoured troops. They were ready for a battle and neither he nor Elix had been expecting them so weren't even remotely ready. Even with that being said, Tomic drew his quickdraw pistol as he fell back.

He pulled the trigger twice, firing four times due to the burst fire nature of his blaster pistol.

By a mixture of technology, luck and skill, the first two shots found the space between the unarmoured side of the neck, the first blasting the man's head backwards and the second blasting apart his throat. The second duo of shots slammed into another of the men, blasting and denting and damaging him through his armour, causing his left knee to fail from the two hits it took, causing the mercenary to fall screaming to the ground.

Good start!

There was no time dash for cover in time to evade getting shot at, Elix knew that much, so his best chance was aiming the pistol he already had in his hand and hoping the Imperial wouldn't waste time firing at the mercenaries either.

He pulled the trigger once and watched how the closest mercenary caught both bolts in the chest just before the Imperial's bolts took two more down. Unfortunately that meant there were still two left who had a clear line of sight on Elix. Realizing he was in a kriffed up spot, he began a dash to his right but it was too little and too late. A blaster bolt from one of the mercenaries hit him in the chest before he had even managed to turn to his right, prompting the forty-something to lose his footing and fall on his back.

Colliding hard with the concrete floor, Elix lost most of the air in his lungs and almost let go of the quick-draw in his right. Gasping for air and trying to ignore the heaving pain in his chest, all the rebel really heard was their captive's laughter.

Kriff. Hopefully the mercenaries would think him already dead.

This wasn't going as badly as he would have thought but it certainly wasn't going as smoothly as it could have been. Putting it mildly considering Elix had taken a blaster bolt to the chest and hit the deck hard.

Gritting his teeth in annoyance at the laughter of the captive, Tomic decided that what he needed to do was to provide enough cover for Elix to get himself up off the floor and moving the hell out of the warehouse. The warehouse was, by all accounts, a kill zone right now which meant the landscape needed to change if they were going to end up coming out ahead of it.

First things first though...

He pulled the trigger, his quickdraw double-tapping the captive in the side of the head, blasting her brains inside of her helmet since it lacked the power to punch clear through to the other side of her helmet.

In an effort to keep the attention on himself, he fired at the remaining mercenaries before throwing his second, and final, concussion grenade their way. One of them had to dive behind obscuring cover to avoid the blaster bolts and the rest were caught in the concussion grenade's field of effect, messing them up.

None of them would have eyes on Elix.

Elix' world was dark for a moment as he tried to roll to his stomach and get up from the cold concrete floor, but with every movement his chest burned up and the air escaped his lungs in muffled cries of pain. He only barely registered the abrupt stop of the woman's laughter and then a loud bang preceded by a flash so bright it was visible through Elix' closed eyelids. Instinctively he knew it had been the Imperial providing him cover to move, if he still could, and it cost him every ounce of determination and pain toleration he could muster to try to turn to his stomach one more time. When he got to his side it felt like all his ribs were breaking under extreme pressure but the sound of them snapping was absent even when he completed the roll and landed with his chest on his arms. Every movement was still torture, but he managed to put his butt into the air and push off with his legs, allowing him a somewhat unstable dash towards the back of the warehouse.

Unbeknownst to him, the Eclipse mercenary that had dived away and thus hadn't been affected by the flashbang grenade had followed him and now, with the Imperial too far away to protect his target, was aiming rifle at Elix as the latter was just about to go through the exit.

But as the bloodied and shaken forty-something part-time rebel was nearing his escape, for if he walked through that door he'd immediately step into the crowded streets of Iziz, he was suddenly attacked by his conscience. That Imperial brat did save his life with that diversion, he hesitated and turned his head back in the direction he'd come from.. just in time to spot the Eclipse mercenary with the rifle in his hand.

The mercenary fired as Elix jumped through the door, the bolt barely missing him and striking the doorpost instead.
