This hadn't been even close to what Varyn expected to come from today. He hadn't expected to run into anyone, let alone a Jedi or one who he was now this close to and... he didn't want to be separated from her. He knew that surely they couldn't ever be anything more. As soon as they left this world they would be Emperor and Jedi again, wouldn't they?

The thought was interrupted as he felt her lips press against his. The sensation made his heart pound hard enough that she would be able to feel it against her chest, and although he was caught off guard, he didn't pull away. He found himself looking into her eyes, and he saw so much reflected back in them. He saw who she was and where she'd been. He could see the emotion there, and his own eyes betrayed him as well. He felt an odd sensation of being... at peace.

He leaned forward and kissed her again, this time for longer, savoring the taste of her lips and barely paying attention to the rain that was flowing down around them. There didn't seem to be anything else that mattered right now except the two of them here, and that was how he wanted it. No plan, no scheme, no Empire, no responsibility.

He pulled back from the kiss and took her hand, leading her along the ridge of the cliff to a small overhanging alcove he had seen earlier, and he sat down, pulling her down next to him and wrapping his arm around her before looking out at the rain coming down all around them.

I think I could stay here forever, he said quietly, almost to himself. He didn't outright state that he would have liked to stay here with her. He didn't know her nearly well enough for that, but he felt content. It was a feeling that he didn't have very often, and he knew that it wasn't an accident that she was here when he felt that way.
