There had a handful of smaller fights to get the crowd warmed up and ready for an exciting night of fights. There were six fights in total on the main card tonight and they were all sure to be exciting!

Callen stepped into the cage with a card holding the fighters name and information. He held the mic up to his mouth “Ladies and Gentlemen. I hope you have been enjoying yourselves so far, but I think this next flight is going to blow you away!

“These fighters don’t need an introduction but we are giving them one anyway!

“In the red corner we have, coming in at 5’2 and 225 pounds. Harlan Banks!”
@Nightfall096

“And in the blue corner! Coming in 6’1 and 189 pounds. Kal Titch!" @Ecclessey

The ref stepped up and explained the rules of the fight, of which there were very little and last seconds bets were cast. The ref pointed to each of the fighters ensuring they were ready.

“Fight!”

No Weapons, No Force, No Death. 48 Hour Post time with a two week thread duration. If there is not a clear winner at the end we will roll winner. If you time out, you are knocked out and lose. Have fun, work with each other to make these threads crazy!

He had to reflect that, somehow, throughout his rather questionable and overall misbegotten life, Harlan Banks had managed to get into some strange situations. The fact that he had made it out of all of them was probably the stranger part. But, he had an optimistic streak, and generally tried to avoid thinking about things like that.

Just as he avoided thinking about the likely pain he was going to be experiencing now as the ref signalled him to check if he was ready for the fight. Why he had signed up of this, he wasn't sure. If he even signed up that was, for all he could remember right now he may as well have been signed up by his employers.

Not that he hadn't been in a brawl before. Indeed, more than a few times he'd had to fend for himself with little more than his fists. Difference was in those situations he'd also had the option to run away. An option he was often keen to take advantage of. Not today though, today he was in the ring. And the ring had a fence. And armed guards. And, if he was lucky, some fool betting on his victory.

Well, they'd probably get a good payout if he did win. Moving in two meters into the octagon, Harlan held his arms up defensively in front of himself, like a boxer, readying himself,

"Alright buddy. No hard feelings, can we just agree to that now?"

Well, could've been worse. Nar Shaddaa was sure as Kark shaping up to be an interesting place to reside after Wax and he did that thing on Makeb. The Omani Gamble was still offloading goods and after the month the crew had been having, including narrowly escaping death by Dark Lord of the Sith, the captain had decided they could all need some rest on the Smuggler's Moon and for three-fourths of the crew that was indeed simply rest. Not for the First Mate, though, not for Kal Titch. Restless as he had become after tasting the excitement and adrenaline rushes of life outside of Republic law, Kal had wandered a bit on Shaddaa before he contacted Wax and went along to a fight night hosted by some cartel member he had played Sabaac with on Coruscant.

Signing up thinking it would be a quick way to make some extra credits, he had perhaps underestimated the kind of opponent he chanced facing. Allard Keever was one of the participants, after all, but Kal figured he could take him. The Imperial warmaster that had been on Nessem, though, Kalladrrl, now he was a scary sight and Kal didn't need to guess why the cartel had made him the night's main event. In stark contrast to the epic between Allard and the warmaster stood Kal's own fight. His opponent was with the cartel, like the organizer of the fights, but stood at a significant lesser height than Kal and had a few pounds too many to win a battle of endurance. The Omani Gamble's first mate knew he really shouldn't let himself get grappled and baited into a wrestling match where Harlan Banks' weight gave him a clear edge. No, his height and thus better reach for a boxing match was his best bet of winning and so Kal mirrored his opponents movements. Stepping towards Harlan until there was about two meters between them he held up his arms defensively. Kal Titch the first mate wasn't much of a fighter, but whatever he was turning into due to the adventures of the past 140 days did count for something. "No hard feelings, mr Banks." he wasn't about to anger the cartel by disrespecting and talking smack to one of its members.

Alright then.

It was on.

With the pleasantries out of the way Harlan hoped at least he could have a fair fight, and maybe come out with one less bruise than he normally did from these sort of things. But the fight had to start some time, and, well, he may as well throw the first punch.

Taking a quick three steps forward so he was half a meter away, he closed the gap between he and Kal, and went for a quick jab to the left hand side of Kal's chest with his right hand. The spot wasn't covered by Kal's guard, and would hit him quick in the bottom of the ribs, coming at it horizontally. With the short distance and quick attack, it would be awkward for Kal to block it away. Though if he could manage to it would open him up to further attacks.

That was Harlan's hope at least.

He kept his left hand up in front of his face as he had before, ready to guard or attack as needed.

Kal caught on to Harlan's intent and quickly extended his left arm into a quick jab as he stepped slight to the right. With the momentum and reach against him, Harlan would find himself closing the gap to Kal's coming fist sooner than his own fist would reach its target. This being a bare-fist match and Harlan opening the right side of his body, Kal would find no difficulty finding the unprotected right side of the chubby man's face. The only way to prevent a jab to the eye-socket was to pull back his own swing, but even if he didn't the hit would weaken the impact on Kal's ribs.

Immediately following the jab and side-step to the right, Kal's left hand went back to his body to guard his ribs and face, while he stepped in with his left foot and hooked with his right fist to deliver a mean blow to his opponent's jaw. There was no way to avoid this unless the chubby man went into a roll.

Harlan wasn't the greatest fighter. He knew that. But he wasn't about to give up so easily.

As the distance closed and Kal's left fist threw out toward his face, Harlan snapped down his left arm across and snatched Kal's left wrist, holding it and pushing it away so any momentum it would carry would push it past the side of his head. At the same time he moved his arm he moved his head to the left, to increase the space between his head and the Kal's fist, meaning there was less work for his own left arm to do to push it away. Pushing it away would mean that even if Kal still meant to pull his arm back again and launch another attack, it would delay all this, if not interrupting it. Though, Harlan had more planned that would happen immediatly.

His own right punch would still connect with Kals ribs, albeit weaker than he had hoped it to, slapping into kals ribs and giving him a knock and hopefully a short, sharp pain that would be enough to mildly distract his opponent.

As his right fist would connect, with his right foot and leg he would slide it between Kals legs, and wrap it round Kals lower left leg, locking up the mans foot and any further movement the man had planned, making it harder for Kal to further maneuver or keep balance. This was where his lower height and higher weight would come into play.

As his fist connected and leg wrapped round he would yank his right leg (wrapped around Kal's left leg) back, and lean all his body weight forward and throw himself onto his opponent to try and topple him. With the mans leg locked up and pulled in the opposite direction, his left arm held by Harlan, and the distraction and sharp pain from the rib punch, there would be little he could do to stop Harlan pushing him down.

Perhaps Harlan usually had other people fight for him, because this was about to become one hell of a mess. As the cartel basadi moved his left hand out of its defensive position to divert the course of Kal's jab, he had miscalculated the range of options the cargo hauler had left. With Harlan's head exposed and the side-step being timed before the intended leg-lock, Kal was fully capable to launch the right hook but now with considerable more weight behind it and with more force than when he had to aim to miss the guard.

Sure, his ribs hurt and shortness of breath immediately followed but Kal couldn't step back and breathe it out for a moment. As Harlan had been committing himself to too complicated maneuvers, entangling himself with his opponent, they both fell towards Kal's left and Harlan's right due to the direction of Kal's hook. In his fall Kal aimed his elbow at Harlan's throat aiming to crush his windpipe when he'd fall on top of him.

@Nightfall096

OOC: It boils down to not pulling the left back and going straight for the hook, which with the added momentum Harlan applies to the left jab connects roughly at the same time Harlan's right foot would move between Kal's legs. As Harlan is moving his foot he also unstable, add that to the momentum of the hook, then they fall to the direction of the hook with Harlan on bottom since he's heavier and between Kal and the direction of the hook. You also only ever stated the hook from my previous post might be 'delayed' but you never defended against it.

Writing the OOC just to be sure I'm clear to what my intentions are.

This had not gone to plan.

As his face throbbed from the punch lobbed at it, he began to feel their collective instability fail, toppling them with the momentum behind each of them.

Letting go of Kal's left hand as they came close to the ground and pulling his own left back into the inside of the Kals arms, Kals still outstretched arm would hit the ground before everything else, causing significant pain as it did so, and keeping it out of the game for a time.

Just as they neared the ground he kept his neck up so his head wouldn't smack into the floor, keeping him ready.

At the same time he pulled in his left hand he pulled in his right to also be on the inside of Kals arms.

With the left arm he used it to smack away Kals right arm that was coming for his neck and see it smack into the ground instead, given that Kal had committed to the falling elbow now and how late Harlan had waited to slap it away there wouldn't really be any time to change his movement.

At the same time Harlan moved his head and neck into the centre to ensure it avoided the elbow even if it did readjust slightly. His head, and both arms would be inside Kals arms in the short time that had passed in the fall.

He would deliver two punches simultaneously to Kals temples, one on either side, in an attempt to knock him out quickly. Being inside the mans arms meant any block would come from an awkward angle, and having both arms just have fallen into the floor as the two crashed down meant both arms would be in pain from their collisions with the ground, meaning any interrupt that might make it in time was likely interrupted, given how short a distance Harlan needed to hit.

Kal wasn't in time to pull back his arm due to his focus on hurting Harlan, thus it did hit the ground first causing a strained elbow before his sweaty hand slid across the floor. Meanwhile Harlan was remarkably alert and quick for someone who had just received a full hook on the jaw, but even as he managed to divert the course of Kal's elbow the real harm was already done. With Harlan on his back, serving as a cushion for the cargo hauler, he forgot about the other parts that could still go for his head if the elbow was pushed away. By pushing the elbow away he opened up the path for Kal's right shoulder as it continued the momentum and smacked against the jaw he had struck mere seconds ago, forcing the back of Harlan's head to smack violently against the floor.

If two blows like that weren't at least a debilitating concussion than Kal didn't know what would be. It would prevent all actions the cartel basadi had planned, however.

Their situation was awkward, laying there on the arena floor, and when he'd watch the recording of this fight Kal would no doubt shake his head in disappointment over himself. 'Shoulda kept him at arms length'.

As he felt the pain of the floor crack against the back of his head, he knew in that instant he wasn't built for this whole prize fighting thing. Kriff, he wasn't really built for this whole fighting thing at all most of the time. And certainly showed today. But he'd learnt more than a few things, that was sure if nothing else. Whether he'd remember what that was exactly after the rather likely concussions he was about to have was another story.

And kriff, he wouldn't even get paid.

A sad day for Harlan really, though Kal had done alright. The pair were a sweaty lump of flesh on the floor in the middle of the ring now, and Harlan wasn't about to get back up. Perhaps it was time to start that fitness program he'd been thinking of. Perhaps it was time to start exercising at all really, with the amount of running and fighting he was seemingly having to do in service to the cartel these days. He'd lost this fight, though not quite his pride. That was low enough anyway, this wouldn't do much harm to it. He wouldn't tell Vic though, he didn't need that embarrassment. Not today.

The judge would count his shoulders down and he'd have lost. Whether he was any fitter after that fight, he doubted.

But boy did it make him sweat.
