Did anyone else read that book? I just finished it last night, and I thought it was a pretty interesting concept for a book.

Most post-Return of the Jed stuff is awful. Considering the ridiculous LOTF storyline they're coming off of, and the general quality of the writers involved, I have absolutely no faith in this series.

Aaron Allston is an ok writer. The book was well written, and some parts were fairly humorous.

Hurh? Some of the Post ROTJ stuff is great, with a few blaring exceptions (The Crystal Star, Children of the Jedi)... Although I think I might be one of the minority who liked the New Jedi Order. I'm still only about halfway through LOTF, so we'll see about that series.

The only post-Return of the Jedi stuff that is worth anything is the Thrawn Trilogy and the New Jedi Order series.

I said most, not all. The stuff from the 90s is the best, save for a few exceptions. I also liked Children of the Jedi. I guess I'm just retro in my EU books.

Damn you. I thought someone on this site actually cared about the Jedi Knight games. :CStern:

Bac's a purist when it comes to the EU.

The concept behind the NJO (as I have not finished it) is interesting, if, well, very different, and I agree at times it is very dark and strays from some of the core aspects of Star Wars.

As for the LOTF, aside from the absolute stupidity of Jacen's character, the concept is sound and the reasons behind the Second Galactic Civil War make sense and are sound.

Jacen was my favourite character whilst reading through the NJO, but once Dark Nest hit, he was utter shite. They totally ruined his character.

So I've heard. I must agree it made no sense for him to go to the Dark Side.

Add in the Hand of Thrawn Doulogy and I agree.

LOTF was just a ripoff, particularly in regards to Jacen. He turned to the dark side because he thought he was the good guy and was saving the galaxy. His grandfather, aka. Anakin Skywalker, also did that. It doesn't compliment Anakin, it copies him. The fact that they did that, and now they're continuing this story with FOTJ where Luke is being branded a bad guy by the Republic, and with Legacy how they just keep bringing back the Sith for more (don't get me started on that one), just continues to show that these people can't think of new ideas and they have to recycle the same thing over and over and over again.

These guys have been working on Star Wars for too long and they need to bring some new people in, or these series with the same concepts each time are going to do to Star Wars what shows like Voyager did to Star Trek.

Unfortunately, so is most of the stuff they're churning out.

I'd say that they should go back and write in the Old Republic era, but I'm not going to since I have a feeling they'd desecrate it.

They need to bring it authors who do not normally write Star wars or don't have ties to it imo.

Look at Drew Kpashanidjisbhjn, I know he wrote KOTOR but other then that he had done no Star Wars and has wrote the best two books.

Ones who know nothing but Star Wars or predominantly write Star Wars get to dragged down with all the Cliches and such.
