Athena's hand went to her face as she composed herself and stood, waiting for silence, "I move for requesting the aid of the Jedi Order, this being so serious, it requires desperate measures. The separation of religion and state only applies to the government not opposing or condoning a religion unless it has fallen out of line - it does not mean we cannot consult it. As for moving the Senate, unless we can move out some of the Coruscanti, this would be a bad move. The people might see us as elitists for leaving them behind in favor of us. All of us here, except for Madame Chancellor, we are the people's voices - we do not supersede the people. I know it would be impossible to evacuate Coruscant, it is too large. That is why we need the Jedi's guidance in this matter, we need their help. If Coruscant falls, so does the heart of the Republic."

"That may be so, but we are the elected officials charged with maintaining the Republic, not the Jedi. Consulting them is okay, but giving them charge is not! I cannot condone that!" Judah then sat back down and drank some water and consulted with his two advisors.

"Senator Zaren, I shall not let personal prejudice impede on the Republic's decisions. Please abstain from further outbursts or I shall have you removed from the Session." Relana said, her voice cutting through the angry murmur of the room, never needing to raise to a shout. "Senator Democles, it is know that leaving the citizens could be construed as abandonment, but it is a necessary evil. As it stands now, it will be difficult to evacuate even just the Senators present. Civilian evacuation would be next to impossible."

"With the Hyperbeacons all but destroyed, we cannot issue updated codes for the civilian transports. Only a few ships have on board computers capable of creating hyperlane maps. We cannot expect to choose which civilians to bring." She paused, rubbing her hand across a tired brow. "Our ancestors have fought the Alsakan before. We know they are not bloodthirsty. In the end, it would be safer to leave the civilians under Alsakan occupation."

"The Jedi are wise, and their council is just that. Council. They hold no power over us, and we hold none over them. We must use all are available assets." Turning to Alcor, she sighed. "As for selecting a new centre of government, I shall have to think over the possibilities."

Judah nodded to the Supreme Chancellor. "Forgive me, Your Excellency. But Corellia's decision still stands."

Alcor listened to the continued arguments against Jedi assistance, and he could not helped but be shocked and appalled at the bigotry of the Corellian Senator. Not only that, but the Chandrillan Senator's accusation against him was stunning. Whether or not it was true remained to be seen, but for now Alcor knew that he would serve no further use in trying to persuade people to abandon what were possibly life-long prejudices. Besides, he had an easier and more effective way of getting the Jedi involved, which was helped by the fact that the Jedi Order did not, in fact, need the approval of the Galactic Senate to intervene in a war.

"With your permission, Madame Chancellor," Alcor said as he began typing a message that would be sent to the Supreme Chancellor's podium, "I must take my leave of you. My vote has been cast and I have another pressing matter to attend to. Please excuse my abrupt exit."

As he spoke, he continued to type out a message to his cousins wife that would be ready only by her on the console of her podium. The message simply told her to leave Coruscant as quickly as possible and to make her way to Alderaan within the next two days to speak with him at his office in Aldera, as what he had to say could not be said publicly or over a HoloNet channel. It was vitally important to maintain secrecy, lest he risk splitting the Senate into dangerous sects at such a crucial moment in history. Whether or not she accepted his request to arrive on Alderaan was her decision, though he was sure to maintain a sense of urgency, as it was an urgent matter.

OOC: Senators who haven't posted, please do.

Judah stood. "If we must evacuate, I suggest we decide now and not waist another minute."

(((Wing, you're trapped here as much as everybody else. Kind of why we were talking about evacuating the Senate)))

Athena bowed her head, what the Chancellor had said was quite true. While she knew the Alsakans were not after blood, she was not sure what they would do to the technology that kept the planet functioning, given their prejudice against it. She could only hope that it did not involve the death of her people.

Her people...

She turned to her winged aide by her side and told her, quietly, "Tell our people to evacuate and return to Perelandrea to prepare for whatever may happen," she said, watching as the aide obediently left with a purposeful stride.

As the only voice of sanity among this... this insane group... it was ridiculous what the senators were quarreling about at such a time. It only reinforced an idea that had been steadily growing in her mind of leaving the Senate, but she must appoint a stable-minded individual first... leaving this pack of hyenas without voices of sanity was most unwise - already one was leaving, but whether of frustration or personal matter was of no difference - what mattered was the Senate needed voices like him at a time such as this, needed them desperately, lest bigotry or idiocy take over.

She pleaded in her heart that the Chancellor would restore the stability of this body of representatives.

"I stand in favor of the Chancellor, and against Corellia, in the matter of the Jedi. However, how are we to choose a safe quarters for this body here, in such a public place? How know we if we are safe from Alsakan spies who might yet trap us? Therefore, I stand in favor of Alderaan in the Chancellor choosing in private and in secret where we are to seek refuge."

Lana listened to most of the discussion. She thought, her fear strong in her mind, but she fought to ignore it. She took a deep breath and spoke into her microphone, "Zeltros supports the Senate. I believe the Jedi should at the very least be consulted, for they are our allies and is it not their job to have a hand in protecting the peace in the Republic? I also agree that the Senate must be relocated as quickly as possible. Even if we are seen as abandoning the citizens of Coruscant, what good can we do to try to stop this battle from truly escalating in the middle of a war zone?"

"Umbara supports the Chancellor's decision, and supports the consultation of the Jedi Council. Although they are not officially linked to the Senate, they are responsible for the prevention of unnecessary deaths. Of course it would be logically to consult methods for proper evacuation procedures," said Nuka, her voice low but full of tone. "Senator of Zeltros, politicians fleeing before their people would give reason for anarchists and other extremists to cast blame and make attempts to alter the balance of power."

Judah couldn't believe Zeltros and Umbara just supported Jedi intervention. He sent a private message to the Chancellor's podium. It read: 'Chancellor, please, do not even considor the Jedi taking command of government operations. Use them for counsel, and nothing more. I beg of you, our sovereignty is at stake.'

Gregory turned around to speak to a personal assistant, who whispered something in his ear. He nodded, then turned back to the Senate.

'I-it would seem that the Jedi are in fact, taking some action. I have a report that Jedi Councillors Tesu and Tanoor,' Gregory paused here to allow the weight of the second surname settle in before continuing, 'were last spotted near a vessel. The Jedi are most likely fleeing Coruscant in the midst of the firefight.'

Relana noted Alcor's message with a quick reply before listening to the continued banter of the Senators. Relana noted Senator Zaren's message with a derisive sneer hidden within the sheer size of the hall. She heard her sister's name and her fist was balled in aggravation. She never was one to stay in the background. "Senator Pea, the Jedi presence on Coruscant is minute, numbering no more than 100 men and women. The presence of two Jedi in the immediate vicinity of a transport is nothing to speculate on." Relana paused, collecting her thoughts. "Regardless, the Jedi would be of little use to the Republic or to themselves if they stayed at this immediate point in time, and an evacuation of their monastery is logical."

"Senator of Umbara, this is a crisis," replied Lana, her tone cool, "it may not be clear to you, but at the moment there is a fleet of Republic ships trying to defend against the Alsakans," she slowly became more passionate, her words carrying more emotion as she spoke, "As far as we know, the Alsakans may win. If they win, they have the entire leadership of the Republic on a plate. We need to get somewhere safe, at least until the Coruscanti battle. To be honest, even if this does inspire anarchists, the CSF will have to deal with them. Sometimes in a war your only two options may be undesireable, but you have to the pick the lesser option. And as for the Jedi, they have always been loyal to the protection of there Republic. No, I am not saying there councillors should tell us what to do, but they can guide us. They have gifts and powers that would be valuable assets, and letting them go to waste, or worst having them as enemies would just be foolish."

She then tapped on her datapad and sent a message to the chancellor.

Have you considered the possibility of asking the Jedi to protect the higher members of the Senate? Yourself at least warrants Jedi bodyguards. This is a crisis.

'A Jedi is only enemies are those that strike against them. No Jedi will be a threat to the Republic if we do nothing to harm their ancient Order. Let us all pray such a corruption of this sovereignty never occurs. We must trust in the wisdom of the Jedi council to come to a decision on whether to aid them or not - as the Jedi themselves remain seperate from the Republic, it is totally up to them to decide on a course of action.

We must decide on a course of action for the here and now. Forget the Jedi - what do we as a Senate, do now? Will we show the people of Coruscant weakness by fleeing? Remember that this war began with the Alsakans' drive to become the center of the galaxy for the Republic. Perhaps we can do the Alsakans more damage here than anywhere else. I-'

His speech was so moving, so passionate and patriotic, few could resist being moved by such words. However, Gregory's speech flatered and failed ocmpletely when he opened his eyes again and realized everyone was staring at him.

Alcor had chosen to remain a few minutes longer before having his hologram fade out and returning to his work on Alderaan. There were good arguments presented about keeping the Senate on Coruscant, though he would not sit by and allow his cousin's wife to stay in harms way. She was too valuable to the Republic to have her captured by the Alsakans, and he could only hope that the rest of the Senate could understand this.

"Senators," Alcor said forcefully, "if you choose to remain on Coruscant and put yourself in danger, that is your prerogative, but the Supreme Chancellor cannot remain here. If we allow Chancellor Tanoor to be captured by the Alsakan Union, they will declare an immediate victory. We must take that advantage away from them."

"The Senator of Alderaan is right," said Lana, "the leadership of the Senate at the very least must be taken to safety. If you want to remain in the mddle of a battle that does not look like being a certain victory, then by all means stay, but consider the danger you put on yourselves and indeed the Republic governemnt."

She paused for a second, before she spoke with passion, trying to implore the senators, "Let me present to you, four possible outcomes and look at it like this. Best case scenario, the Republic wins within a very short space of time and the Alsakan war effort is crippled. It won't matter if we have stayed, as we will be safe then. But what if the battle drags on for days or weeks. We will be in constant danger of an Alsakan planetary assault. We are cut off from the rest of the Republic. Regardless of who wins or not, there will be greater things at stake if the leadership of the Republic remains. Say if after that the Repbuiblic does win, we will be safe then but by that point any one of us could have been assaulted or even assassinated with the proximity of the Alsakan fleet," she took a breath and then brought her self to the worst scenarios, "but what if after that, the Alsakans win? If the leaders have not evacuated it won't matter about any terrorist or attempted coup by underground groups, the Alsakans will not only control Coruscant, but as our Alderaanian colleague said, they would have victory in the war. If we evacuate, they may control the Coruscant, but te war will be far from lost. And then there's the worst case scenario: what if the Alsakans win in a short space of time? Then they'll have us on a plate too, unless we evacuate, and the Chancellor needs to all the more so. In the scenarios I have suggested, three ot of four of them suggest that we are not safe here. Do you really think this battle will end with us victorious in a short enough amount of time for us to remains here safely? Because I don't really want to risk the Senate for the sake of being afraid of something that probably won't happen while we're fighting the Alsakans. If there is one thing a war does, it evokes patriotism and pushes people together under there banners."

"Alderaan agrees with the Senator of Zeltros," Alcor said loudly for all to hear as his holographic image stood up from his seat. "If the Senate leaves, then Chancellor Tanoor can address all republicans and tell them why the Senate has left. If she explains that we have simply moved to another Republic world to continue with the people's business, then I believe the people will be on our side and patriotism will take over from there. Any suggestion that the people will turn their backs on this body so quickly is absurd, and anyone who believes that is an arrogant fool who does not give the people enough credit."
