Ellora

Excerpt · Description · History · Inhabitants · Flora & Fauna · Intent

Ellora was a stormy, mountainous, fog-covered world, covered in dark oceans, which was located in the galaxy's Unknown Regions. The planet was strong in the Force and had an ancient connection to the early Jedi Order. Mentions of this connection were lost and only cursory references to the planet remain in Jedi records. The planet was home to a deeply spiritual species of four-armed aliens and also an ancient Jedi cathedral, below which was a shrine that focused the powers of the light side of the Force.

Description

Ellora was a rough and mountainous world with a singular, massive continent into which was carved hundreds of dark rivers and lakes. Fields of tall grass were common on the surface, as were lush rainforests; notably, there were also no modern cities, as most of the planet's indigenous residents resided in small villages along its coastal regions.

The planet also featured a single, massive ocean which itself was dotted with islands. The most famous of these islands was riddled with natural caves, underneath which was a wellspring of the light side of the Force. The ancient Jedi turned the wellspring into a shrine and built a Jedi temple over it.

However, perhaps the planet's most distinctive feature was the supermassive, anticylconic storm, which could be seen from space. The origins and exact causation of the storm were unknown, but local legend held that it was an ongoing storm that had existed for eons. Whatever its origins, the storm itself was extremely dangerous and covered much of the planet's only continent.

History

Ellora gave birth to its namesake, the native Ellorans: a four-armed, furry sentient species with a deep connection to the Force. Though the Ellorans never became space-fairing, they did organize into a loose conglomeration of villages along the main continent's coastal lines, where they elected a council of religious leaders to oversee the development and government of their society.

At some point after leaving their forgotten homeworld, the Jedi Order arrived on Ellora, drawn to the planet's strength in the Force and the nexus of light side energy found upon its surface. The Jedi took up residence on a cavernous island in the planet's massive ocean, underneath which they constructed a shrine to focus the planet's natural light side energies. They later built a temple atop the shrine.

As the Order continued its nomadic journey coreward, the Elloran Jedi temple (and its shrine) were abandoned and forgotten. Both sites fell into disrepair and, due to the fact that the planet's natives did not possess the technology to journey that far out into the ocean, the island was left untouched for thousands of years. Mentions of Ellora were made throughout Jedi texts and records, but its location was ultimately lost.

Inhabitants

Ellora's main sentient inhabitants were the four-armed Ellorans. The Ellorans were primarily a peaceful, religious peoples, with their own ideas and conceptualizations about what the Jedi call "the Force," which was strong on their homeworld. Most Ellorans were Force-sensitive, but, unlike the Jedi, did not use this power as manifested supernatural abilities (i.e., telekinesis). Instead, the Ellorans used the Force to center themselves and to improve upon their unique brand of martial arts by increasing their strength, finesse, and stamina. The Force was also used by Elloran healers who had mastered the ability to remove toxins from the body through a unique Force ability.

Flora & Fauna

The planet was also home to giant, saurian predators—apex predators who inhabited the planet's lush rainforests—as well as a species of bat-like creatures, who also preferred the thick tree-coverage of the planet's rainforests, and which feast upon the forests' large insect populations. The plains of Ellora host herds of mammillian creatures which are commonly hunted by the native Ellorans for their thick hides, delectable meats, and their milk, which is used as both a beverage and in cuisine.

A common site in the canopies Ellora's rainforests, the lampatoon are an intelligent species of Force-sensitive birds. While they are not sentient, they are intelligent enough to parrot the speech of sentient (and other) species—an evolutionary trait which they use to mimic the calls of their predators, allowing them to mask their presence. Their sensitivity to the Force often draws them to places where it is strongest, allowing explorers and inhabitants of Ellora to gauge wellsprings of Force energy within the planet's forests.

Ellora's costal regions were home to four-legged, herbivorous mammals known as niseag. Extremely docile, niseag were frequently domesticated and used as transportation for both locals and visitors to the planet alike. The planet's oceans, rivers, and lakes teamed with butterfly fish—strange fish whose fins looked like the wings of butterflies—which were a food-source for the native Ellorans. The apex predator of its oceans was a massive sea beast known as a maru and, though they were rarely sighted, the maru was a feared monster by the native Ellorans.

Finally, the great storm on Ellora's surface was said to be home to "storm aberrations," but these tales were restricted to legend only and cannot be confirmed.

Intent

With strong, lore-centric worlds like Mortis, Ahch-To, and Tython either impossible to reach, forbidden in the RP, or simply extremely dangerous to venture upon, this world was created to be an alternative for Jedi players to explore and establish new stories upon. Lore and species write-ups are forthcoming for the inhabitants of this world, as well as the planet's various iconic locations.
