Character Information

  • “Good evening. This is Karina Lantreku with the Coruscant News Network and tonight I'm honored beyond words to have the first exclusive interview with His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Elix V. Your Majesty, I’d like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to speak with me.”

The Emperor’s smile deepened in front of the camera setup, his right leg arrayed on his right knee with his hands folded in his lap.

“You’re too kind. The pleasure is all mine.” His voice had an easy charm to it, assured from years of public speaking and leadership and his hazel eyes sparkled at the reporter. His expression was both warm and yet contained an element of solitude, as was to be expected. The Emperor studied the reporter as she continued on.

“We all know that you’ve been mourning the loss of your father, our Emperor Siris VI. But this isn’t the first time you’ve had to deal with the loss of a parent, is it?” The pretty blonde did not read from cards nor did she use a prompter. The Emperor’s lips turned down at her first question.

“No, it is not. My mother, Luna Vex, died when I was young. Father spent all of his waking moments over those months ensuring she got all the care and comfort that a man of his station could mobilize. He really, truly loved her, and she him.” A smile broke through his wan expression. “I remember, in her last few days, she used to whisper to me, telling me that she was so sorry she had to go, but that she knew that one day I would succeed to my father’s throne and continue the work of half a millenium, and that there would be no one more prepared to lead our Empire into the future.” The Emperor looked energized, his solemnity fading away as quickly as it had arisen. “My father was also very lucky to be able to remarry, in case he needed to secure any more heirs to his throne.”

Karina nodded as the Emperor prompted another question within her.

“There was some concern about the secession following your accident on Chandrila; what can you tell me about that, Your Majesty?”

“It was a trying time for all of us. I was piloting a leisure craft above the ocean when a mechanical failure struck and we crashed. The impact of my head on the control yoke knocked me out cold…” The Emperor trailed off to collect his thoughts, smiling before he resumed. “I came to with water filling the cabin and I knew I had to get out, and it was then that I think I truly began to discover my talent with the Force.” Elix took a beat. “I spent three days treading water and swimming on an approximate vector towards where I thought shore would be. I tried to trace the path of the sun throughout the day to keep swimming in the right direction despite waves and the unimaginably strong currents in the ocean. The Force was my lifeline.” Karina nodded, clearly sympathetic to the pathos and pure humanity exhibited in the sovereign, quiet and resolute. “For days I persevered, until after the third sunrise I heard a rescue craft and I was pulled from the water.” A smile broke through on the Emperor’s face. “I slept for two days straight after that.”

The reporter smiled. “I can only imagine what that was like. Afterwards, you threw yourself into your education.” Karina mentally arranged her notes before continuing. “Top marks at the Sith Academy of Coruscant. Completed post-secondary education on Alderaan, with concentrations in history, economics, and politics, in addition to advanced training in the arts of the Sith. There's numerous notes from tutors and professors about what a talented and impressive student you were.”

The Emperor smiled, almost bashful and yet assured. As close to humility as he could be.

    "All correct.”

“You've clearly been focused on leadership for a long time; you spent years with Imperial Intelligence after your education was complete, working in high-level analysis, even dipping into live fire missions under the auspice of the High Executioner. Why would you, the heir to the Imperial throne, put yourself into danger like that?”

The Emperor nodded along as Karina spoke.

“I sought to gain a deeper understanding of the threats the Empire faces and the ways our brave intelligence and military communities defend us each and every day. Order and justice depend on the Empire and in turn the Empire depends upon its people to see that our ideals of security and prosperity continue into the future.”

He didn't need the Force to perceive the patriotic fervor that he had instilled in the reporter.

“Life can't be all fun and games though, Your Majesty. Tell me, what does our sovereign enjoy in his downtime?”

That same smile. Almost humble, but assured and confident.

“I've always believed in an incontrovertible connection between mind, body and spirit. To keep one aspect sharp one must not neglect the others. Keeping myself as close to the pinnacle my body’s capability strengthens my mind and my discipline and, by my reckoning, also hones my connection to the arts of the Sith.”

    “Any specifics to your regimen?”

“I commissioned a climbing wall in my gymnasium," he said fondly. "There's nothing like a relaxing climb after hours upon hours of staff meetings and duties of state.”

Karina listened raptly before shifting into her next question, a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.

“We've seen you attend events with a variety of actresses, models and attractive socialites, but it's common knowledge that you've never been romantically involved with anyone. Holding out for that special someone?” The Emperor laughed, looking down before fixing a playful, coy gaze on her.

“Is that more than a professional interest I hear?” Elix felt a thrilling flush of power run through him as she blushed slightly, to be edited out in post-production. He spoke before she could. “Marriage in the royal line has always been interesting to navigate, but I'm focused on the management of the Empire for now.”

“Married to the job, as it were?”

    “Just so,” he replied smoothly.

“Your Majesty, I wanted to touch briefly on the recent tragedy in the Outer Rim.”

The Emperor’s breezy smile turned to stone.

“A terrible tragedy and an unconscionable loss of life exacerbated only by the rebellion of the Mandalorian clans and the upstarts in the so-called Old Empire.” The Emperor made a displeased noise in his throat, his face turning briefly into a snarl. “They seek to claim the legacy of the First Sith and yet they rebuff and dishonor that legacy at every turn. I can promise you that neither I nor the Empire shall rest until those traitors are brought to task.”

Again, he could see the patriotic fervor swell within the reporter.

“We’re going to take a brief break to hear a word from our sponsors, after which we’ll return with the Emperor.”
