Dyson Donos

TITLE: Smuggler SPECIES: Human (Corellian) AGE: 20 HEIGHT: 5'10" WEIGHT: 180 ILBS ♦ LEVEL 1

Dyson Donos is a Human male, and adopted son of Jedi Shadow Jacen Adarr. Originally a poor orphan boy from Corellia, at the age of 12 he was saved from the orphanage by a mysterious man, who was later revealed to be a Jedi Shadow. He was saved from a life of squalor due to a connection to the Force the Shadow had detected while planetside.

Over the years, Dyson traveled with Jacen and learned the ways of the Force and the basics of Lightsaber combat. Once a bit older, Dyson became disillusioned with the ruthlessness in which Jacen pursued his objectives, and abandoned his cause. He then decided to use his training for the benefit of all, not just a religious order. He took up smuggling, using his gifts and the training Jacen provided to deliver supplies to those ravaged by the Hundred-Year Darkness.

  • Dyson was born in the waning years of the Hundred-Year Darkness on the planet Corellia. He was born into nothing, abandoned by his parents at only hours old and left on the steeple of a poor orphanage. Orphanages were bursting at the seems, the war between the Exiles and the Jedi causing more children to lose their parents, and creating financial situations where children may have been undesirable. Despite that, he was taken in by a kind woman named Eliana. She would be the closest thing Dyson would ever have to a mother.

  • Growing up at first was average for Dyson. He was a very active boy, never really wanting to sit still for long. He was a curious boy, wanting to learn everything he could and experience as much as possible, perhaps a side effect of being stuck inside the confines of the orphanage. He was an oddity amongst the other orphans. He was neither hated nor despised, he was just different. Sometimes he was that little bit of light that the others needed.

Dyson developed a great love for reading as a child. Something that defined him all through his early childhood was a voracious desire for adventure. As a little boy, there was not much he could do to satisfy that lust, being essentially trapped in the orphanage and too small to leave by himself. As he grew, he begun to be dissatisfied with life in the confines of the building. The only time of day that he loved was when Eliana read himself and the other children stories. The orphanage did not have many books, but Eliana changed the telling of each story so much that the children barely noticed. When she would read these stories, Dyson would be able to escape the dreary world he lived in, if only for a moment. Through Eliana's would be able to see himself as the captain of a pirate crew, raiding the outer rim. A brave soldier, fighting for freedom... A Jedi Knight, defending the innocent and eradicating evil.

As Dyson grew older, he began to sneak out of the orphanage, and into the streets of Corellia. He was small enough that he sometimes was not spared a second glance, and was able to move quickly. He never left for long, as he did not want Eliana to start worrying about him, but when he left he felt free. Every time he left the orphanage it was an adventure into the unknown. Eventually these journeys grew to hold more purpose. The resources of the orphanage were always slim; food was minimal and toys and books were quite scarce. Dyson could not explain why, but somehow he could feel exactly how stressful this was for Eliana. He felt the pain she felt, how hard it was for her to make sure all the children were fed. When Dyson left, sometimes he would make moves to steal credits, money and toys for the other children. Never anything big, not anything that people would miss. He was never caught once, he found he could move extremely quickly and quietly. He wasn't really sure how, but whenever he focused he could get in and out of situations quickly. He never really questioned it.

Life went on like this for a few years. Dyson tried to learn as much as he could with the limited resources they had. He continued to steal small things for the orphanage, and quickly became a hero amongst the other children. He became more agile as the years went by, able to steal more with more efficiency. Eliana never mentioned that she knew of Dyson's activities... but he had a feeling she knew. Everything was relatively normal for a few years, until one chance encounter that would change his life.

    --------------------

One day, while out on a typical scavenge for the orphanage, a strange looking man caught Dyson's attention. He was fully cloaked, not letting anyone get a peak of his face. There was nothing really discernible about him, expect a pair of striking blue eyes that stared out from beneath his cowl. There was just something about him, he felt... different. Dyson followed him for a little bit, at first he simply because he was curious. Until he noticed something shiny beneath his cloak. He wasn't sure what it was, but something about it just spoke to him. It seemed to be dangling loosely, easy enough to grab. But at the end of the day, shiny often meant expensive, and anything the orphanage could sell for credits was good enough for Dyson. He thought of it as nothing out of the ordinary, he had picked many pockets, just nothing this... big. He quickly made the move, grabbing for the object and immediately ducking down a nearby alley. Dyson couldn't help but feel that the grab was somehow too easy, but quickly dismissed the thought as he looked down at his prize. Usually he would just keep moving with whatever he stole, but he was fascinated by this object. It was an extremely sleek metal cylinder. It looked mechanical, but there were very few buttons on it. There was a large open ended hole at the front, but it didn't feel hollow... Dyson quickly realized what it could be. Something from Eliana's stories.

Dyson then heard a large crash and looked up. Two thugs had begun to descend on him, demanding that he surrender his new toy. He initially said no, but they took it from him no problem, considering he was an 11 year old kid. Dyson didn't really attach much value to objects, but something about this thing made Dyson's mind come alive. If it was what he thought it was, it could be the key to realizing a life full of adventure. If it was a Lightsaber, he could be something great. And seeing that possibility be ripped from him in an instant, the lightsaber he rightfully stole, his senses came alive. He starting running after the two thugs, throwing his arms out as if to reach them sooner, when suddenly the lightsaber was ripped out of their hands. It flew towards Dyson, and he was so surprised he wasn't even able to catch it, it simply hit his chest and fell to the ground. Dyson barely had a chance to register what had just happened, when the lightsaber was ripped away from him, and flew down the alley towards a new figure. The man Dyson had originally stolen it from. He ignited it, as a brilliant purple blade shot to life. The thugs ran on sight, but Dyson just couldn't... he stood there, mesmerized.

The figure revealed that he had been watching Dyson for quite some time, as he lifted things from other people. The figure noted he was impressed by his skills and also by his intent, always stealing for the benefit of others. He also revealed that the reason Dyson had been so agile in the past, how he had been able to sense dangers on a whim, how he could sense others emotions, was because of a strong connection to the Force. He revealed himself to be named Jacen, and that he was a Jedi. He made Dyson an offer: Dyson could keep the lightsaber he stole from Jacen and stay on Corellia, or return the lightsaber and travel with Jacen, to learn the ways of the Jedi. Dyson, having always craved a life of adventure, accepted without a second thought.

When Dyson asked if Jacen let him steal the lightsaber, he replied with a short laugh and a nod.

  • Over the course of the next five years, Dyson travelled with Jacen. To formalize things and to prevent the orphanage from discovering the Jedi affiliation, Jacen made the formal move to adopt Dyson from the orphanage, utilizing a fake name with documents to provide credibility. Jacen clarified immediately to Dyson that he was not like most Jedi in the Order. He belonged to a specific sect called the Jedi Shadows, a group tasked with destroying vestiges of the Dark Side wherever they came in whatever way they manifested. At the time, Dyson romanticized the idea. When he first started off, the two traveled everywhere together. Dyson was never exposed to the more traditional aspects of the Jedi Order, and Jacen himself was not much one for traditions and ceremonies. He held a very practical outlook on the Force. That it was a tool, something to be respected if one hoped to properly handle it. Jacen had taught that the Force was not necessarily something alive, but something that was always present. Jacen also taught of the Exiles, dreaded enemies to all good things in the galaxy that needed to be eradicated. Dyson was also let in on some of the ways of the Jedi Shadows. Not many, as he was not a formal Shadow himself, but he did learn a few things from Jacen. He wished he could contact the orphanage from time to time to see how people were doing, but he wasn't allowed. The nature of the Jedi Shadows prevented him from making unnecessary contact with civilians.

For years the two traveled together, and Dyson learned the ways of the Force and the Lightsaber. He travelled throughout the Galaxy with Jacen. At one point, Dyson constructed his very own lightsaber, one with a vibrant green blade, using components and a crystal provided to him by Jacen. Jacen taught him everything he needed to know. Formal education was limited, but Dyson learned what he considered the important things. Jacen taught him how to shoot a blaster, how to use the Force to aim better. He claimed the Shadows learned not to purely rely on the Force, and sometimes you had to resort to more common ways to get things done. Dyson learned to pilot the ship, Jacen providing him lessons as they travelled throughout the galaxy. The two primarily lived on the ship, it only made sense that Dyson learn to fly. Piloting was where Dyson was at his happiest. His thirst for adventure seemed to be quenched when he was behind the cockpit, the galaxy his oyster. For a time, Jacen and Dyson were happy, and had even developed a bit of a Father-Son relationship. It was nice while it lasted... Until one mission.

    ------------------

As the Jedi Order shrunk due to the trials of the war, Jacen had begun to grow increasingly unhinged. He smiled less and less and was more focused than ever on his goal to eliminate the exiles. At the beginning of Dyson's training, Jacen often laughed and despite the serous nature of his duty, was lighthearted. Over the years he had grown more cold. Something that made Dyson nervous. He knew Jacen was powerful, he was his Jedi Master after all, and he was capable of so much. It scared Dyson to think of the extent to which Jacen might go to accomplish his goal. Dyson himself had become a bit disillusioned with the Jedi by this point in time. He saw the denizens of the galaxy being caught in the midst of the war between the Exiles and the Jedi and all the chaos it had inflicted. He was grateful for the training he had received from Jacen, but he couldn't help but wonder if the Jedi were not exactly what he thought they were.

During one mission, Jacen had received a tip that a small group of Exiles were hiding out in a smaller city on Alderaan, not necessarily causing harm but lying in wait. The main reason this was alarming was due to Alderaan’s status as a strong Republic world. For Jacen, that was good enough. He mobilized immediately, telling Dyson to get his gear ready. The mission was more or less like any other, capture the targets if possible, take them out if necessary. Dyson never really questioned this. It was just like Eliana's stories, the bad guys needed to be brought to justice. When the two finally found the Exile's hiding place, Dyson did not witness the aggressive, savage Exiles he had seen up to that point. Here, Dyson saw people who were around his age, and Dyson could sense their fear: fear of him and Jacen. Maybe they meant to escape the war, maybe they were lying in wait for an attack, but there was no time to ask questions. Jacen entered the hideout ahead of Dyson, and quickly and efficiently took out each and every one. Dyson watched in stunned silence. At first, Jacen might have tried a non-lethal method, or might have tried to talk at least a little bit. But not now, not after the war had taken its toll. Jacen killed each one with quick efficiency.

For Dyson, this was the last straw. He did not join the Jedi to become a ruthless killer, he joined the Jedi to learn the ways of the Force for the benefit of the galaxy. Maybe the other Jedi might have been different, but the Jedi Shadows were not for him. At least not the way Jacen handled things. Shortly after this mission, Dyson stole some credits from Jacen, and ran away with nothing but the clothes on his back. He ran away from Jacen, abandoning the Jedi Shadows and his adopted father. He did not leave any indication that he was to leave. In his haste to leave, Dyson left his lightsaber behind. Something he would give himself flack for in the future.

Dyson did a few odd jobs here and there on Alderaan, working to acquire enough credits to acquire his own ship, so he could leave on his own terms and start his own life. He was already set back a bit, as the very first things he bought for himself were a Blaster and a Vibroblade. The Blaster is that he could at least have some surefire protection, the vibroblade so he could have some sort of lightsaber substitute to continue honing his skills on his own. It was a poor substitute, but it was sufficient. He took a sizeable amount of credits from Jacen, so it was not nearly as difficult as it needed to be to acquire a ship, but that didn’t mean he was able to get by without getting his hands a bit dirty. During his time, Dyson was able to make a few connections in the galactic underworld, aiding him in finding employment later on. After a few months on his own, he was able to buy a light corvette to get off the planet, though he acknowledged he would not have been nearly able to afford it had he not stolen credits from Jacen... and had it not been bought off the black market.

As Dyson left Alderaan and flew off into the galaxy, he was content that his life was now his own to live. He was free. He had the freedom he had been craving every since he was a little boy trapped in the Orphanage. He had seen firsthand the state of the galaxy, and thought the best thing he could do with his newfound freedom was to use his Jedi training to benefit everyone. He could go anywhere he wanted now, do anything.

But the first thing he did was visit Eliana.

CHARACTERISTICS
[tabs][/tabs][tabs][/tabs]

  • Dyson, even in his adolescence, was nothing if not rambunctious. Frequently, all he wanted to do was explore, escape his drab life in the Orphanage and find something more. He is young man with a thirst for adventure, which can sometimes get him into trouble if he is too impulsive. In the heat of the moment, Dyson tends to leap before he looks, which can sometimes incur unforeseen consequences. Dyson is never lacking for confidence, his adventurous nature going hand in hand with his charismatic attitude and bravado. However, this often causes Dyson to through caution into the wind, losing himself in the excitement of the moment.

  • Dyson wants the best for everyone, and even if that means disobeying galactic laws, he wants to make sure people are well off. This is what led him to steal on behalf of the orphanage in his youth. This desire for others to benefit sometimes causes him to take on more than he can handle, and those who are skilled manipulators could twist Dyson's earnest desire to do good to their own ends. When younger, Dyson was also a total clown, loving to make the other orphans laugh and bring some light to their days. This trait persisted into his adulthood, with Dyson still enjoying clever wordplay and sarcasm to make jokes.

In short, Dyson is a true Corellian: Independent, Pragmatic, and often reckless. He can be a steadfast friend and will usually give people the benefit of the doubt. His exposure to Jacen has caused him to not always take people at face value, but Dyson likes to be friendly to people unless they give him reason not to be.

CAPABILITIES

  • Dyson's skills with the Force are not unlike most Jedi Knights around his age. Jacen provided Dyson a good foundation throughout their time together, being an experienced Jedi Shadow in his own right. When not on missions, Dyson's training focused mainly on the fundamental bases of the Force, with Jacen planning to specialize his training further before Dyson ran away.

  • From a young age, Dyson was a gifted empath. He could detect the emotions of others with relative ease, and as he grew older he evolved this natural gift to read people's thoughts. Dyson could not read the mind of a Force User making active attempts to guard themselves, or anyone using special technology to protect their thoughts, but when he focuses he is usually able to detect stray thoughts from his targets. As a child as well, Dyson was able to subconsciously use the Force to heighten his speed and agility, helping him to be the accomplished thief he was in his youth. Once he realized this, his conscious efforts heightened his abilities even more.

His prowess with the Force reflects the way he was taught. Dyson never really learned the deeper Jedi philosophy or much about the Force’s effects below the surface, so most of his abilities focus on his ability to manipulate physical elements and to heighten his own physical attributes.

Indies cannot start off with a lightsaber (he could have left it with Jacen, believing it a reminder of his time with Jacen or something).

Also please note that even though he isn't part of the Jedi Exiles, to the Jedi Order's eyes he is an exile just like them.

Duly noted! Will make those changes.

Hey I noticed in you bio you mention Dyson doing odd jobs on Naboo and other things on Naboo. You'll need to change the planet there because in our current timeline Naboo isn't classified as a civilized world, it's mostly Gungan tribes. Human settlement hasn't extended there so it's unlikely you'd find anyone or any work there.

@Dmitri I removed any mention of keeping the lightsaber and replaced most mentions with that of a Vibroblade already. Unless the Vibroblade needs to go as well, which is alright.
